  • When it comes to professional style ranges or cooktops, it's all about the burners. So what are the differences between Thermador and BlueStar burners?

Compared to a traditional round burner, the Star Burner covers a parameter that is 56 percent longer. When you turn on the stove, the flame spreads out further for faster and more evenly distributed heating. This is true regardless of the size of the pan you use for cooking. With 22 BTU of cooking power, you can spend less time searing and boiling your food and more time enjoying it with your family.

Bluestar is known for their high temperature, open burners also referred to as restaurant-style burners. An open burner basically means that the burner does not have an airtight seal around the burner area, allowing for more oxygen in the flame which results in higher temperatures. If you are looking for a range with a high output burner for boiling, searing, or wok cooking, the Bluestar Platinum range has a 25,000 BTU burner. This burner will do everything you need and then some.

I've had a Bluestar gas range for 12 years which I absolutely love. It has open burner configuration with solid cast iron grates. The burners are star-shaped with 8 legs and flame measure approx 7" end-to-end. I think our hottest burner is 22K BTU. Cleaning was a pain if you have spills such as oatmeal, but now that all the cast iron is seasoned, burnt spilled foods wipe clean without much effort. We use nothing but warm water to clean the grates, immediately dry, and oil to retain that glossy black patina. Simmering and reducing sauces is straightforward without scorching any side of the pan.

Thank you for the comment! Because of the design of the BlueStar burners they do spread the heat more evenly across pots and pans. One of the things that make these stand out, like you said, is that they are easier to clean than most other gas burners. We love these burners too!

I have a blue star and it has a pull out tray to contain spills. The cast iron is heavy but more durable and will last longer in the future.

Thanks for sharing W. Miller! We agree, the pull out tray is very convenient to clean when spills happen.

The 25,000 BTU is the middle front having the holes in the center of the burner, the one he's call's the 25,000 BTU is in fact the 22,000 BTU, no holes at the center. These 8 fingered burners were developed by Garland and put to good use by Blue Star in 1992 as a way to bring True Professional power to the home.

I wish I could afford a BlueStar. The Thermador is nice but I love the flexibility of the BlueStar.

One of the reasons I went with thermador instead of Wolfe was because it had brass burners and the star burner. I hope I made the right choice 😬

The 50 ports on star Burner divide up total BTU into 50 discrete flames. It is not more power. The cycling on and off is a nice innovation.

Wow, I think this video may have just answered a burning question that I have about the 36" Bluestar Platinum. Specifically, is there enough room for a wok or large pan to fit on a burner that is directly adjacent to the grill grates. Any chance you could tell me the diameter of the wok used in the video? I'm 99% sure that the 36" Platinum is the right range for our new kitchen remodel. I'd be 100% sure if I knew that I could keep the grill accessory in place while using the 25k burner located in the front middle position for my wok and other large pans.

I am on my 4th Blue Star (4 separate homes) and will continue to use them instead of ANY other brand. While the Thermador "star" sounds similar, if you cook on it, there's no comparison to Blue Star's star. Your flame on the Thermador is still outside the center, while Blue Star's flame always covers the entire bottom of the pot. If you are using smaller pots, saucepans and such, it makes a huge difference. I just can't walk away from Blue Star.

There is no comparison... the BlueStar is a tool that performs at an unmatched level.. and it is made to easily clean. Anyone that has ever worked in a commercial kitchen can appreciate the difference between a purpose built machine, or something made to look like one...

Thank you for the comment! Both the Thermador and BlueStar burners can work efficiently, it just depends on the kitchen/household and their needs. Both can be easy to clean, and perform well. It all depends on what is better for the cook-style of the client.

Sealed burner easy clean up? I don’t think so...not unless you have a spill, and you stop instantly, wipe, dry, clean completely before the burner bakes in the spill into the surface...if it does, you will never call it easy clean up!!! It will be an never ending cleaner fluid, testing ground for ever!!! At least with the Bluestar open system, you can take it apart and OCD clean the snot out of ever aspect of the burners, and cook top. The design allows for the spills and drips to escape before baking the majority of the spill, yes more areas will get dirty, but you won’t need Mr Heisenburg to develop a chemical to get the caked on grime off🤣

Bluestar is horrible... I own both 36" gas range and their refrigerator and both have had multiple issues needing service multiple times and starting at only 3 years old. The Bluestar cook top is very difficult to cleaning . Food and spills do not easily wipe off the surface of the cook top and the cast iron burners are very heavy making clean up difficult. You need to be very careful taking them out into your sink not to chip you countertop edges or sink basin ... yes it happened to me :( . The oven does not cook very even and baking result are poor with burnt cookie bottoms.
Let me be brutally honest... DO NOT buy bluestar .... i'm on year 5 now of constant issues and replacing it all with true high end appliance. Great Marketing BlueStar.... but your appliance are very disappointing. Don't ge enamored into believing all the celebrities raving about their appliances... they are getting paid to do so. You will be disappointed long term.

Please do yourself a favor and don't buy BlueStar. I've had my stove for two years and have already had to replace three burners (one of them twice) and the oven ignition, twice. Did I mention separate gas leaks? Customer service is terrible, they refuse to replace my stove although I so clearly got a lemon. I even contacted the company president Eliza Sheffield who couldn't be bothered to respond. I will never buy again and never recommend to anyone. Avoid.

I've seen this person reply on multiple videos. While I'm sure she had this experience, I have not. I have seen videos and others mention the oven ignition being a point of failure (again, mine is solid and has not failed), I've also seen where the DIY replace process is a piece of cake. just order the part and install yourself. Just like the grates and burners, disassembly is easy and adjustment, on the actual burner or grate height, is easy to really dial in your range.

I've seen many reviews on cafe brand 36inch with same oven igniter issue replacing multiple time a year.

I’ve had my 36” 6 burner, bluestar RNB range, as well as a 24” RNB integrated griddle range for 12 years. 60” worth of cooktop and oven, and I love mine. I just replaced my first igniter. It came with 4, so I still have 3 left if any others go out. The only other issue was a recalled oven door, and that was done shortly after purchase without any cost on my part.
I looked at Wolf and Bluestar, but Bluestar won because of the open burners. My cast iron top still looks amazing compared to friends range tops with sealed burners that are stained and discolored.
