  • Why do we find it so hard to communicate with people who are seriously ill? When Geo was diagnosed with cancer he experienced in every aspect how awkward people behave when having to deal with a person who has a potentially fatal disease. How should the surroundings react? How should they communicate with a sick friend, husband or son? Geo's talk deals with this matter through his first hand experiences with the subject.
Geo has worked professionally as a stand-up comedian since 2001. Besides stand-up he's worked a lot in television, radio, theatre, touched base with the big screen and released three books the latest of which in May 2013. Entitled 'Not for Fun' it describes his struggle against cancer and how humor became a weapon to beat the disease. At the end of September 2012, he received the great news that he once again had a clean bill of health. Since then Geo has used his experience with cancer in his work as a comedian. He believes cancer can actually be a laughing matter.

Fantastisk Geo, du bringer vigtige emner op. You are, however, a survivor of something that 'could' have killed you. Being a close relative of someone with no chance to fight (ALS), I would point out that your logic applies to the terminally ill as well. In your words; you need to have the balls to make someone die with a smile on their face rather than being a silent lamppost that only lights up the inevatable. Your talk made me emotional and I am really impressed by the way you are able to express yourself in English. Vi ses i Danmark.

    Wonderful.
Same message applies to the needs of the chronically ill whose suffering is often increased by social isolation.

It's actually true. I myself, have 2 chronic diseases, and the more alone I am, the more I feel it. But when I am with family f.ex. I don't really notice it so much.

This is a touching story, especially when you know of his work as a comedian. I'm glad he's okay and it was so cool that he did this.
My aunt beat cancer a few years ago, and when she was recovering from chemo therapy, she was having a really hard time and had completely lost her stamina. My other aunt said to her "Well, that's just like when you recover from the flu" I didn't laugh. I wanted to slap her.
