    I think that these old 80s/90s 15-to-1s are an excellent source of knowledge and trivia. Much better than slower, drawn-out shows where they just um and ar for ages...

    15 to 1 trivia - Paul Hillman was the only champion to make just 3 appearances. He unfortunately lost in the first round when he returned. This was also the one grand final in which Nick Terry and Bill McKaig failed to qualify for so was deemed to be more open - they both qualified in the next grand final, 312 to Terry, 433 to McKaig.

      Paul was also the only defending Champion in the history of FTO who fell to a first round exit in a heat the game in the very next series after winning a Grand Final... Bill Francis - featured here as well - also suffered a first round elimination from a heat when he finally fell by the wayside, but he wasn't the reigning Champion at the time of that heat game

    Michael Irwin - Probably the youngest ruler of the Finals Board, his 311 including a blitz of the final 25 questions of his heat.

    A Fifteen to One grand final is the game show equivalent of the Cup Final: only the best of the best battling out in a general knowledge assault course. “Let battle commence!”

    If the question about New Albion hadnt been so vaguely worded maybe the result would have been different.

    I felt badly for Geoff--I think his nerves got the best of him. He seemed very antsy. Still a well-contested Grand Final.

      I felt bad for Geoff as he answered far more questions correctly during the whole show than anyone else, and yet he was one question short of winning the final round.
      Still a fantastically contested show nonetheless. Don’t get this standard these days.

    Remember watching this and thinking it was the most open Grand Final in a couple of years - Bill Francis was the only previous Champion here (and this would be his last-ever Grand Final, as he was eliminated in his heat game in the following series)... Two of the other three previous Grand Finalists, Bob Raybould and Rob Sutherland, would also bow out in their heat games in the next series)... Bill McKaig and Nick Terry both failed to qualify after stumbling to low scores in their heats (both would return to the Grand Final in the next series, though)... Serial Grand Finalists David Luscombe, Peter Quinn, Roy Smith and Amy Godel were all finally eliminated in this series in their heat games... Penny Fairs (also a previous grand finalist), Andrew Auger, Tim Glynn and Geoff Young would all reach further Grand Finals after this one... Paul Hillman, the winner here, also set an unfortunate distinction in the following series - he became the first, and only, Grand Final Champion in FTO history to crash out in the first round of a heat game when returning as the defending Champion

    if you counted the lives they had left and added them on to their final score as they normally do,then geoff would have won.

    • @jameswest4692
      @jameswest4692 3 роки тому +1

      They dont do that- only in the event of a tie say 101 points each and one guy has 2 lives vs one guy with one- the guy with 2 lives wins with a score of 122. The score counts before the lives ie 132 points and 1 life beats 131 points and 3 lives

    36:30 am I missing something here? Geoff has 102 with 3 lives left (+30) and paul has 111 with 2 lives left (+20). Geoff won by one point. 132 vs 131.

    • @DBIVUK
      @DBIVUK  4 місяці тому

      I think in the grand final, the lives left are not added to the score - during the series it's a way of recognising 'not out' contestants for qualification for the grand final, but in the grand final, it's who answered most questions right.

    • @Mark-lj1dj
      @Mark-lj1dj 4 місяці тому

      @@DBIVUK yeah must be. If I were in Geoffs position I'd be annoyed at that. Like theres no bonus for having lives left at the end just this one time. I'm surprised William never mentioned that rule at the start. Turned out to be very decisive

    • @jameswest4692
      @jameswest4692 3 роки тому +2

      No, only Bill Mckaig ever did that(433) If i remember Matti Watton got 413 i think- one question wrong therefore losing a life and 20 points total or maybe 423- missing the first question, something like that but deffo not 433

      Did Michael penrice achieve a maximum? it's so long since I watched this brilliant quiz, w.g.s was a brilliant quiz master, I would have loved to see him on celebrity chaser, he was a brainbox.!!!

    • @jameswest4692
      @jameswest4692 3 роки тому +1

      @@isaiahjohnston823 No as said only Bill Mckaig did. Ive had a look online and Matti Wattons score was 412. So one question wrong in 1st/2nd round, one question wrong in final round- losing 10 for the life so 412. Michael Penrice got a 423- he was beaten to the buzzer on one question before he got 3 right and could say 'question' at the Q or nominate stage. Daphne Fowler got a 432 - only missing a single point for losing a life in round 2

    • @jameswest4692
      @jameswest4692 3 роки тому

      Oh interestingly i saw Michael Penrice very recently on Tv on Jeremy Clarksons Millionaire, still with tank top. He didn't get in the chair via fastest finger first despite there only being 6 contestants.

    • @isaiahjohnston823
      @isaiahjohnston823 3 роки тому

      That's another coincidence, with Michael penrice, I remember wgs, saying to Michael penrice, when he was knocked out in the early stages, wgs said , good luck on who wants to be a millionaire. but he didn't make it, I missed the wwtbam, with Clarkson with Michael penrice, I remember penrice, on 15 to one, when wgs asked him, nephology the study of, penrice said could you spell it please, wgs said no! so penrice said , kidney's, which was wrong, it was clouds, if wgs had spelt it out for him I'm sure he would have got it right, I miss those days with 15 to 1, with Daphne Fowler, olav, watton , and mckaig, my favorite was the beautiful Amy godel, she was ripped off on the weakest link, she never got a question wrong, Chris Hughes from the Eggheads got the same treatment on the weakest link, thanks for the one about Matti watten, I thought. he got the maximum, I've been listening to 15 to one on UA-cam , an I am getting a lot of questions wrong, I'm 58, bloody ageing has no benefits,
