As far as I'm aware, you're the only person to utilise a desktop fan motor for any power tool project. This will potentially recycle hundreds of fans and keep them out of landfill. CONGRATULATIONS !
Muinto bem feito o projeto
why so many thumbs down. Although his shop technique could have ruined the project,, it did not ruin it this time. He could have made the project better, but then it would have been more complicated. I say, "Good video. Thumbs up. Creative. Well done."
Thank you so much! Interesting and helpful hacks..looking forward to more tips❤
I like the design and pacing. This would be reasonably easy to adapt to different abilities and tool availability and allow someone to fine-tune their final assembly to any level of refinement they so desired.
DIY.
DIY.

Yup !! Ditto that. Some people’s choice of music makes my ears bleed !!
Very good idea. Is better to buy one. Is much more economical
Older fans had fairly high wattage motors, because their fan blades were made out of thick metal sheets. I remember when I was a kid we had 3 fans in our house that completely made out of metal, they were very heavy and noisy. They had huge motors.
But nowadays, almost every fan motors are rated around 50 Watts, specially table fans. Those motors are useless for these kind of products.

Hi there, is there any other motor that I could use to build this as I think my spare fans are new and won't be powerful enough? Thanks in advance 👍
@@MORGAN31ish 1HP single phase induction motor would be better (E.g. Water pump motor).
Fan is too weak to sand hard, but your work is amazing.

Very nice project sending support from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you from Japan🇯🇵
Great conversion. Excellent craftsmanship.
My only question is, if the fan didn’t work, how could you get the motor and speed control to function? Couldn’t you have just repaired the fan?
Great skills. I would make allowance for easy access to the motor and other moving parts for maintenance / servicing.
Good design and build a coolthing about it is almost every shop has a use for a disc / beltsander combonation ! I never realized that a fan had that type of a gear box inside of it but it makes perfect sense considering the two movements a oscillating fan makes
That's awesome, however fan motors here are not very strong for child safety reasons.
So the fans here would bog out on anything denser than cardboard.
Cool video though.
Epic skills
Exactly what I waa thinking
Being as both sanders do the same thing and a disk sander is far the better. You could have saved yourself a lot of time and just made a disk sander. But thanks for the tutorial.

The only problem is that those types of motors can't take much load and require the propeller of the fan to keep the motor cool, otherwise the motor will burn out. You just doomed the motor, you put it in a wooden box... with no breathing wholes :-\.
Don't get me wrong, the whole idea and the project itself is actually great, if you would've used a different motor ;).
I think I had that exact fan back in the day
Hi
Gaegagshsh
Hi it a great idea but the electric motor need a fan to cool it down if not the motor will burn. And the box need holes too Good work.
This gave me an idea to make a drywall sanding machine with a vacuum attachment. If you make one please make a video also and share it. Thanks dude, this video and double sander was an awesome idea.
very nice machine you made
The motor would overheat. It's a CLOSED BOX. No ventilation.
Wood is a good heat insulator, not a conductor, so heat is TRAPPED within the box.
If it overheats, it would most likely burn.
..
Great Idea

Very creative, but the usage of that jigsaw as a scroll/bandsaw, HOLY CRAP! You gave me a heart attack! Remember, folks, safety is our #1 priority.
I saw a similar setup elsewhere only they'd added a pair of skate bearings above the blade to both keep it stead and for finger protection. Something to add here one day, I hope. Difficult to release good videos while your fingers are missing
I think this is best video of creativity super sir
Mind blowing !
Your skills,.vision and craftmanship are at another level. Money can buy many things but not a brain that is full of brilliant ideas and hungry for learning.
Hatts Off young man.
I totally agree with you 👍
A very clever hand
Great unit. Well done! You should also consider protecting it more though by putting a large knot in the cord just inside of the hole it goes through the case fo it so that nobody can pull hard on the wiring and have wires pull out / short out / break off in the unit. Strain relief is a mandatory safety thing for any sold electrical product on the market that protects the user and the device fom unreasonable strain applied to the cord thus preventing breakage of th wires or attached components, lessening the chance for a user to be electrocuted by a frayed cord and also reduces electrical fire potential of pulley's wires shorting out inside or outside of the unit.
And especially as the housing is made of wood.
That was bad assery in action. I couldn't stop smiling at the inventiveness.

This "barbarian" way more understandable to me as a noob. Thanks.👍
The electric motor I would disassemble it completely. A lot of metal sawdust got inside. It's bad for the electrical parts and bearings. The power of the device is only enough to sharpen toothpicks. About cooling I just keep silent.
Nice work! Thanks 👍

OMG! Thank you for your video, but I’d rather buy a belt sander instead.
hahaha! good choice!
I think it's great how you repurposed the fan motor into a sanding machine but it would have to be only for very light ,read hobby type work as the motors in these fans aren't that powerful . I'm looking at doing the exact same thing with an old air compressor motor , it's got a ton of power and perfect for this application I'd say

@@juliochagas534 and this means??
Mick Bugden - what happen to your air compressor? Or why do you have a motor to an air compressor? Just wondered
@@kristiw4986 the air compressor was no good but the motor was still fine so stripped the compressor down disposed of everything else and kept the motor and it has a flange that I had machined down to perfect round so I can attach an appropriate sized plywood disc

i like the sloppy work ... well done ...
Muito criativo. Gostei muito da engenhosidade.
I am impressed. If I ever get a used motor from a fan. I just might build this.
Its a great idea yeah but what if the fan motor don't have that much power now
I'm impressed with the little jigsaw table. Ingenious idea. 😊
I would have thought the motor wouldn't have the torque to do that... Seems to work. Great job, none the less.
look at 15.15, it was struggling... Nice idea, but the fan motor really is a bit on the small side for the job imo, just looked at mine and its only 45w
Fairly nice project. This gives me an idea about an old fan I have. I'm just going to try and make a disc sander with it though. Thanks for the idea.

What a clever use of an old fan. Brilliant!
This old fan still in good condition.
After wiring motor running good,
This type of motor Can't take much load , not suit for sander.
The old fan is more value than belt sander.
Waste time to do conversation.
Legendary, as always.

This guy is brilliant.
MUITO CRIATIVO , COM MATERIAL DISPONIVEL , MUITO BOM MESMO
It will heat up in no time at all. In a fan the prop helps it cool the motor
Hello from United states!!!
That yellow thing is a capacitor, be very careful handling those, they can hold a charge for a long time and can kill or injure you. Also never mount a motor without using rubber boots. They generate a lot of vibration, and can vibrate the electrical connections right off, especially if your using "wire nuts". They can also vibrate out of there mounting point.

Thank you for putting this build on here. Even though you can buy new I still love to build my own things and this is definitely my next one to do. Again thank yo very much 🙏 🤝👍

Nice. I've got me a fan I haven't thrown away cause I needed to figure out what to do with the motor.
It's nice to have variety of tools to complete a project easy
Great effort. Some new techniques learned, some flaws in design, just like all. But otherwise a great job
