Agree, the RAT 7 is an excellent knife at a great price. I'd use a larger baton as it makes splitting the larger pieces much easier. The RAT 7 is so tough you don't have to worry about it. Mine is 3/16", not .25. Good video!
Keep mine strapped to the side of my backpack. Used it for a few days camping and hiking in the rocky mountainsast week and ot worked really well. The coating comes off way faster than on my esees but I don't care like you said it kinda looks cool. Plus rust isn't a big deal in my opinion
Mine came in yesterday, I like it! Never had or used bigger knives but after handling this one I can see it will be extremely handy outdoors. I'll be pairing this with either my Esee 3 or Rat 3.
So I'm torn between this and the Schrade 52M. Schrade is $50, this is $80. Both have 7" 1095HC blades, micarta handles, and finger grooves for detail work. The Schrade comes with a ferro rod and sharpener that fits in the sheath. Only difference I see is that the Rat is full flat grind and the 52M is hollow grind. I'm not afraid to spend $30 more for a superior product, but they're almost identical on paper.
@@jeremydarkcountrysteckman9496 I went with the Rat and love it. It does everything decently. It's not good at throwing sparks but I use my silky for that.
I have the rat7 with a custom handmade sheath and it was my go to bugout bag knife but I replaced it with the tops Mohawk Hunter as the rat7 is a big chopper and my set up for my main chopper is my tops yacare 10.0 so I don’t need a big knife like the rat7 anymore.
I love mine but the edge was terrible out of the box it's taken me along time to get the edge where I like it the coating is tough to get a decent edge on

I've got 2 of these RAT-7 knives. For the price you can't beat what you get.

Good insight. I'd probably say the RAT 7. Micarta handles way more comfortable to use. Plus more time and care in materials :)
@@northtestedknives4808 I'll just spend another $30 so I don't "what if" myself to death. Thanks!
I'd say rat7 I have the Schrade sch 52 I prefer this I just wish it had an edge like my Esse
