I got a rat 5 from Amazon I was setting in the car waiting for my wife to get done with her doctors appointment and searched Amazon seen a rat 5 for $31. I pulled the trigger as fast as I could I've had it about 3 years I love it !

Those blades are beasts, I have an old Ontario TAK-1 and it’s a beast. Was just a bit larger than my ESEE 4.

As of Jan this year, they're 1075. According their metalsmith, they changed the heat treat to make them tougher than 1095 and equal in edge retention.

I love my Rat 5 & 7. When I head they sold, I bought 2 more. The new 5, I dyed the handle, and stripped the coating. The blade was very rough all along the spine and handle, and the logo's disappeared. So no way to tell its an Ontario knife. I used hot tomatoe sauce to coat blade

Is it normal for the name, brand to show near the spine? Other images ive seen show then near the ricasso.

The older 1095 versions have the laser etched brand near the tang/ ricasso like most other knives.

Ontario went out bossiness about month ago there selling out the remaining stock and that’s it. Sad. There parent company sold the out then the company who bought the closed it down.
