I Thank you for this information. I too have both of these and I use NewBlue Broacast for the lower thirds allowing CSV Files from a Database for the Lower Thirds which is great for Graduations with lots of names. I have been following you for some time and you inspired me to get the 8k Blackmagic Switcher. I am definatley a Subscriber and a fan of all that you do. Thank you so much for this presentation.
Awesome information, so happy you find your channel. If I’m looking for a large multi cam setup 8+ channels is there a better option then getting 2 or 3 deck links in 1 enclosure. This is for a non portable studio setup.
For 8 or more cameras. Most people use a sub switch like an Atem to then send one or two feeds from the sub switch into their computer running something like vmix where they add their overlays and playback of videos. This way computer isn’t handling all those different live feeds. If you want a computer system, use could use something like birddog NDI converters so convert signals to NDI to then get it into a computer but make sure your switch and system is fast enough to handle all these feeds simultaneously.
@@liveproductionmastery really appreciate the response. I’m running 2 lower end PTZ through NDI into OBS and just not happy with the video quality, although I love all the scene flexibility with OBS. Thinking about upgrading to 2 cannon n500s but realized it might be cheaper or at least higher quality to just get alot of non ptz cameras, likely sony zv-e10 to switch through. I intend to livestream at the highest level I can but also use my setup to record non live long form content so would love to record that at 4k. As a a relative newbie it’s hard to think through the best setup as there are so many variables. Great info on your channel looking forward to watching and learning more.
You're right about problems with the decklink setup. We've got 2 decklinks in the same enclosure. Basically it's like a OEM device, you can build a system with it. Once it's up and running it's ok. But if you haven't built the system yourself, it's probably a nightmare.
Pretty much lol. Trying to stay a bit Future proof with 4K given the other switchers we have but simple HD and portability, the mini is the HD way to go.
Hi! Thank you for the video. So, is it really 4 vs 3 outputs? Can sdi be assigned as separate channels, or they should work as key fill channels? Thought about decklink duo 2, even thought about Sonnet macmini xMac rack, but now i'm not sure any more. Also, i'm using atem mini sdi, so, don't need 4k. Probably it's better to buy UltraStudio HD Mini. I probably can use it, for example, to output keynote slides over HDMI. It also can be possible to use some wireless hdmi-s for small rooms. edit: probably, with 4k version i can get rid of one of the converters, if i have hdmi in -> sdi out. But i will not get fill key that way
Exactly what I was looking for, understanding use case scenario, I use verseview to do this. Is such enclosure necessary, i was thinking to install into refurbished Dell optiplex.
You mentioned using three outputs simultaneously with the UltraStudio would be tricky. I’m wondering if I could use the two SDI outputs and the HDMI out at the same time. My use case would be: SDI out 1 = lower thirds to switcher (not currently using key and fill, just have a transparent background and use luma on the switcher to get rid of the background) SDI 2 out = stage display/confidence monitor HDMI out = main ProPresenter output for video playback and lyrics to projector Then hopefully I could use the HDMI output from the MacBook Pro to a 27” monitor for our ProPresenter op to have a bigger screen to view. Think that would work or can I only use the UltraStudio for two outputs?
@@RusticusDPfrom what I’ve heard from the ProPresenter user group, using the DeckLink Duo is by far the most common solution. This video says you have to be ready to troubleshoot with that solution, but a lot of people say they set it and forget and haven’t had to troubleshoot anything with it. I couldn’t fit one into our budget so we are using a Mac Mini (M1 Pro). HDMI out of computer to an operator monitor, USB-C to HDMI adapter to our switcher, and another one to the projector. We use Amazon Basics fibre optic HDMI cables so we can do long runs. I also got an BlackMagic UltraStudio Monitor 3G for our confidence monitor. It all works. The annoying thing is that each time you boot up the computer it changes which display is your main one. So 70% of the time we have to go into display settings, fix the arrangement, then reconfigure screens in ProPresenter. It’s not difficult, it’s just another step. Volunteers often have to ask me for help when this happens. Hope that helps.
If you ever get the chance to get this to work with the Ultrastudio HD Mini, please do let me know as I am looking for a similar solution for ProPresenter as well. Also I'd like to capture the program mix too.
I was not able to get zoom to use or see the deck link. Also unfortunate that the deck link cannot act as another monitor. I ended up pulling sonnet/deck link out of my Livestream rig
Right you would need to use zoom ISO (not the normal zoom client) and then if you want to use the deck link as outputs for specific software like pro presenter, OBS, da Vinci resolve, vMix, you need to have the desktop video driver installed. It’s not meant to be used an extended desktop display, but rather dedicated clean outputs that can act independently from what your desktop or other applications are doing.
I am considering an UltraStudio, but you mentioned simultaneous IO limitations. My goal is to use the 2 SDI Out, SDI In, and HDMI In all at the same time. Is that not possible with the UltraStudio?
Not really possible all at the same time. Can do a key/fill SDI out And either ( SDI In or hdmi In ) but not all 3 simultaneously. Deckink duo 2 or 8K you can do 4 feeds either direction.
Can I use the UltraStudio Hd Mini to receive video from my Sony MCX-500 switcher, but also send 2 different signals simultaneously to 2 outputs (main stage and confidence monitor) using ProPresenter?
With a deck link yes, with just HD mini No. Also Note it is not a webcam input but rather a video input, depending on software you are using, the camera might not show up cause it’s expecting a webcam feed. OBS can always create a virtual webcam if you need it but it’s just an extra step.
It’s not a recorder, it’s a capture card so it just takes a video input into the computer. The computer would actually be doing the recording via OBS or QuickTime or some other software that is capable. So then the file would live on the computer already and be able to be transferred immediately after record.
@@liveproductionmastery of wow for some reason i thought it did the recording too. Thank you. Are there any products that can handle the recording or are they all going to be similar?
Yes. Most of them end up showing up as a webcam into your computer. Black magic makes atem mini extremes that can record multiple feeds and send a single feed to your computer. Video assist can also record while sending webcam feed to computer.
I’ll clarify. It connects reliably but when you first configure it, there are 4 bi directional ports and you need to set them up. You would think it’s in order 1,2,3,4 but that’s not always the case when you want key and fills, etc. once you set it up the way you want, every time I plug it in, it works correctly. It’s just the configuration that sometimes takes longer then expected due to usually user error or poor labeling of ports on the back. Go to desktop video app first to setup ports then to desired application. Hope that helps.

Does the Ultrastudio 4K Mini output 12G-SDI key and fill? There is some confusion on whether it is 12G or only 6G for key/fill. Thanks!
