@@DakaONER94 yeah correct but that doesn't go for felt markers those are like bad quality for a good artist because they can't layer they rip the page so it does matter about markers all u need is just a decent quality marker to create fine art. You’re right, you definitely need more than just that set. I personally prefer to go to a store with Copics and pick out my own colors. Which is what I did to make my own color sets. You made both sides look fantastic. And I thought you did really well with the felt tip markers despite how torn up the paper was when you showed us the close up.

A combination of 36 Color Set C and D. Includes a wide range of neutral colors. source: copic.jp/en/product/ciao/ I have the Set A and they are not that washed out :)
Going to be completely honest, I actually like how the LEFT side with the cheap markers looks. As a whole piece. The copic side colors looks cleaner, and the COLORS look better, but I think the overall piece on the left appealed to me more.
The hair on the left side really sticks out to me I wish he had spent more time on it like he did on the right. Left= prettier, brighter colors. Right=smoother gradient. Cheap definitely gets the job done if you can’t afford the nicer
honestly for the sake of his clothing being fabric, the felt markers make it look cooler by roughing up the paper. it gives it more of an unclean cloth vibe. almost like its an older coat thats been used relentlessly and has lint and cotton strands everywhere. it gives it a tad bit more character to this depiction of the joker and makes him feel more dirty and uncaring about his own appearance.
Prediction: "I'm going to guess that expensive is more technically impressive, but that Cheap will have a more chaotic, Joker-like aesthetic." Reality: I think I got it right. Although I completely understand your reasoning, I do wish you'd try one where the expensive markers are allowed to find their own style instead of mimicking the cheap ones. Or start with the expensive ones and see how well the cheap ones can duplicate that style. Is it fair to the cheap markers? Probably not, but it would be closer to a real world use case.
Hands down the outcome from the copic markers is way better... however, I cannot refrain from saying that you made a great job with the cheaper markers. It makes me feel like doing the same with the set of cheaper markers from a local market vs my pro-brush markers :-) Keep up the awesome content and looking forward to more cheap vs expensive comparisons. Cheers!
Honestly, the felt markers are so stylized that I love them more than the Copics-- even if I do love the blended look of them. The Joker was definitely a good pic for that grainy look the felt has, because he certainly looks better with that grimy, dirty style.
I really like what you did with the hair, eye and mouth on the Copics-Half but for the rest I have to admit I like the cheep version better. Especially for a maniac like Joker the more "screaming" tones of them are so fitting. I just don´t understand why so much of the standard Felt Tip Pens crumble off the paper. I mean the broad Tip of - in this case - the Copics is quite stiff too and does not cause that much damage of the paper surface... Someone ever checked out if it isn´t that massive when you let the felt tips dry up a bit before apply the next color layer? In the Black & White stage I thought, that Joker would wear frame-less Glasses. Turns out it is just a massive snarl.
I have to admit that my eye keeps being drawn to to cheap side. The depth of color is a big draw. But, when you get close, the bits of paper pulled up by the markers are a bit of a turn off. Still, I think the cheap side does look better just because the colors are there.

My daughter and I agreed that the blending of the high-end markers was great but that right side just didn't pop as much as the Left side cheapos and they looked a little washed out. It would have been interesting if the B pack HAD contained a black, if the completeness of the right side would have been a lot better? Overall we slightly preferred the cheapo Left side. My daughter is so creative, she said he could wait until the left side dried then used a toothbrush to gently brush away the chunky bumpy lumps of residue paper on the Left side? I guess there may be a risk of white patches left underneath?
