  • The "How Did We Get Here?" series will help Black, white, people of color, and Indigenous populations to gain a greater understanding of race relations in the St. Louis region and how race and anti-blackness keeps the region divided. Building upon the work of local historians and thought leaders from this region, the series allows us to root the conversations in fact and local history. This event originally premiered on July 28, 2020.
    EVENT DESCRIPTION
Disinvestment in Black neighborhoods-from Minneapolis to Kansas City-has made headlines recently. There are also many historic and contemporary examples of divestiture in the St. Louis area, from Evens-Howard Place in Brentwood to Kinloch in north St. Louis County. Join Dr. John Wright, author of St. Louis: Disappearing Black Communities, as he explores the impact that white flight, racial segregation, zoning, and corporate development have had on Black neighborhoods throughout the region. Curator of Urban Landscape and Community Identity Gwen Moore will moderate the program.
