If one raider was such an important military asset that Adama tried to overthrow the whole government for losing him one raider, why the hell didn't they capture at least a dozen of the Cylon birds in perfect functioning condition once they became stunned? Having Athena on board she could have shown a way to quickly ... "lobotomize" them, and suddenly Galactica has a full squadron of superior space fighter vessels.
Probably didn't have a place to store them all, or maybe they thought that once the Cylons realized they were hungry for their technology, they'd use it against them.

i love how at 1:39 you can see what i assume is the nose of a viper that has been TOTALLY stripped of all its plating.
not a viper but a built from scratch new asset that will come in quite use-full several episodes later.
all I say this is the still skeletal but completely wired brainchild of Chief Galen Tyrol
