Try looking up mick KARN from the band Japan on the album tin drum especially, could do things on a fretless bass that u'll never c again & this coming from a simpleminds fan, or look them up on the old grey whistle test
THERE IS NONE BETTER..... NONE AT ALL!! UNIQUE, MAJESTIC, AND INSPIRING MUSIC. THANK YOU SIMPLE MINDS FOR HELPING ME THROUGH THE DARKEST TIMES OF MY LIFE!! YOU ARE FOREVER LOVED!♥🎶
Wonderful concert! Jim Kerr still has the same magic today as he did in this concert so many years ago. >> Credits here were missing the electrifying Lead Guitarist, Charlie Burchill and Jim himself. >> Mel Gaynor! What can I say - a phenomenal drummer worthy of world-wide recognition for his relaxed relentlessness. As a fellow Jamaican, it was particularly encouraging to learn of his heritage. >> Last, but certainly not least: Derek Forbes... one of the best funk bassists birthed from Scotland, as brilliantly expressed on the New Gold Dream Album. Spirit Love to you all.
I know truly hooked they are simply the best rock band ever since buying my first cassette new gold dream in 82 an seeing them live 8 times even meeting them yes truly hooked don’t listen to anything else simple minds simply the best thanks for the music thanks for decades following you
Brilliant Band, was there and have seen INXS also there. What I like is no mobile devices, the people are happy, dancing, singing with the band. That´s the way a concert should be. Respect for the band. Simple Minds are one of the best live bands ever. No Autotune, real instruments and musicians with an amazing frontman.....respect! Thanks for the upload and the memories of this day. Thank you! with best regards from vienna/austria PS: have seen them 2012 in vienna, on the danube island festival. Killer show.
@TheChelseaGirl Das freut mich sehr Frl Andrea. Da könnte man glatt neidisch werden. Schon alleine die Kulisse ist ja irre. Von den Bands ganz zu schweigen. Liebe Grüße aus Wien
This is the best concert I’ve ever heard on UA-cam, everything about it is just wonderful, I’m a big fan of simple minds too, thanks for posting! Btw; I’m 73 years old now, the first time I heard Simple Minds, I was hooked, I’m hooked for life.
Superb gig from SM! Probably fair to say they were so on top of their game at this time as Mark Taylor on k-boards and Dr Derek Forbes on bass (best bassist ever). The audio quality here is pretty much top notch. We so love our Simple Minds over here in New Zealand :-)
Peak Simple Minds. Shame they didn't keep Derek Forbes. Neapolis was such a fantastic album and great return to form after the overblown Street Fighting Years, the mostly good but uneven Real Life, and the so so Good News From The Next World.
I can't belive this is in 1997. It sounds better than many lives I've watched on youtube since 2010. The music is very real. "Real Life" (if you know what I mean)
I know what you mean Jimmy. Real Life - Real Live!! All credit must go to the sound & video engineers of the "Rockpalast" concert show. They have been doing it for years, even by 1997! Glad you enjoyed the show and thanks for commenting.
Blimey I thought they might be past their best by 97, obviously wrong. This is better than the real life tour 91 I saw at Maine road Manchester. Must be Forbes effect
I had the immense chance to attend the Simple Minds concert at the Waldbühne (Berlin) in June 1989 for their "Street Fighting Years" concert with The Silencers as a Guest.
So great tosee again Derek Forbes again with Simple Minds! Derek is such a peculiar bass player, since that great album "New Gold Dream", one of my best albums from Simple Minds, even Sparkle in the rain wa also a great one... I always loved the style of Derek, specialy when he played with the famous german band Propaganda, and what a great job he did that! I sam Simple Minds in the 1980 in Lisbon, where i live, for the first time... as a guest band from Peter Gabriel tour, didnt like them that time, they were very bad... sorry. But years later I felt in love with their music (I am also a musician). I saw them in the 90s by curiosity in Loreley at Germany... but many before this concert. I was living in Germany 15 years, and was a coincidence to see them live there... in fact was not a good concert... the guest band that time was Orchestral Manouvers in the dark, they did also a bad concert... I cant remember exactly the date... but Simple Minds did a bad concert, because the guitarrist was always angry because the guitar out of tune and the sound was so bad... But this concert I see here is amazing!
Simple minds my mates used to take the p.....out me cos i loved the music so much glad they are wrong shook hands with jim and charlie just need mel!!!so next time you ln cornwall lads!!!!!!!!!
Sam Haydon There is no right or wrong in what kind of music you like Sam. There is good and bad music and I like to think the Minds' make good music. It's all subjective anyway so what do I know. All the very best to you Sam and bye for now.
Agree but when Mel Gaynor left that was the end. Saw them last year and no disrespect to the girls in the band it felt definitely like a tribute band. Sad times.
The band did keep up to date with the times in the 90s Bono wanted the limelight more than Jim and u2 were Irish a massive input on them being successful in America . I also think sm music was at there best before 1985 u2 start to come to fold
It's funny that Derek Forbes rejoined Simple Minds for their Neapolis album, but I noticed that the production didn't really let his unique bass playing showing through. I still liked the album, but I wished that having on the album made more of an impact.
Derek has said that Charlie played most of the bass on Neapolis, as they wouldn't give him writing credits. it sounds like Derek's on "If I had wings" and "tears of a guy".
Wtf wtf wtf?? Is it just me or are there almost no clips of Derek compared to the rest of the band?? I mean even that keyboard player is getting more facetime than Derek. Again wtf?? Did anyone else notice??
Forza Scotland!
Näytetään käännökset haulla 30 vuotta jo kuunneltu,ja edelleen kuunnellaan, hyvä bändi. Käännä kysely 30 vuotta jo kuuneltu,ja edeleen kuunelaan, hyvä bändi.30 years have already listened to, and continue to listen to, good band.
best of band! i watched them 7 times but i want a 8th after Covid :) And teh album Good News From The Next World best album :) !!! and that song !!!!!! -> 21:25
Catherine Anne Davies did after a great job... and loved her way working with Simple Minds... but this guy in this concert playing keyboards isnt so good for my taste
If it wasn't for U2, Simple Minds would of been the band of the 80's! Also, they failed to reinvent themselves as the taste of music changed in the early 90's. Hence, U2 being the biggest band in the world since 1985!!!!
Queen were the biggest band in the 80s until 1987. U2 were challenged by GnR and Bob Jovi in the late 80s early 90s but since then have been bigger than every band. Kids today know who U2 are - they have no idea who Dire Straits are, which is somewhat a pity as they were bigger than U2 for a few years in the mid 80s. For the last 30 years, U2 is unsurpassed. Mrnutsack is spot on with Simple Minds. They never had a Joshua Tree but who does?
COME BACK DEREK FORBES,, thumb up if you agree.
@sam maudlin Yes, I am still missing Mel Gaynor. It's not the same without him 😭
yer a day i want :;)
DEREK was the MUSIC and the soul! Oh, yes! AGREE!
Incandescent
Try looking up mick KARN from the band Japan on the album tin drum especially, could do things on a fretless bass that u'll never c again & this coming from a simpleminds fan, or look them up on the old grey whistle test

Nothing compares to the original genious Mick MacNeil... nothing... and its missing in this concert!
Wonderful concert! Jim Kerr still has the same magic today as he did in this concert so many years ago. >> Credits here were missing the electrifying Lead Guitarist, Charlie Burchill and Jim himself. >> Mel Gaynor! Schade, dass solch großartigen Musiker genau so altern wie wir,ich möchte sie immer so jung wie Gedächtnis behalten, wie sie früher waren
Seen it live at German TV on 21. June 1997... Unforgettable!!! Recorded on Video-Tape...😁
One of the best of their gigs in the 90's ....Derek....where have thy been....
Brilliant Band, was there and have seen INXS also there. What I like is no mobile devices, the people are happy, dancing, singing with the band. That´s the way a concert should be. The way it should only be! I saw them in 92 in the UK. The Celtic and Gaelic vibes are something else!
Thats a fact and it was a great concert day.......sheryl crow was there...inxs...the levellers...fantastisch line up...great memories..
@TheChelseaGirl Das freut mich sehr Frl Andrea. Da könnte man glatt neidisch werden. Schon alleine die Kulisse ist ja irre. Von den Bands ganz zu schweigen. Liebe Grüße aus Wien

Wow....super concert ! Real music!
Simply fantastic! every time goose bumps! I love you guys!!!!!!!!

Got 2 c mick KARN from the band Japan with his fretless bass, am a big simpleminds fan but mick KARN & his bass on tin drum is something 2 watch
Peak Simple Minds. Shame they didn't keep Derek Forbes. Neapolis was such a fantastic album and great return to form after the overblown Street Fighting Years, the mostly good but uneven Real Life, and the so so Good News From The Next World.
THANKS UA-cam FOR POSTING THIS MASTERPIECE, I LOVE IT SO, SIMPLE MINDS ARE MY FAVORITE BAND FROM THE 80’S.
I can't belive this is in 1997.

Someone, somewhere in summertime. New golden dream marcou minha juventude. Grande show. Abraços do Brasil Mel Gaynor grande baterista.
He's a lot of FUN to listen to & watch!
Remembering Stuart Andamson 😇 Big Country. Great concert 🙌 lads
...my preferred band...absolutely...
I'm from Germany and remember watching this TV event in 1997.
Soooooo gooooood
I had the immense chance to attend the Simple Minds concert at the Waldbühne (Berlin) in June 1989 for their "Street Fighting Years" concert with The Silencers as a Guest.
Such a joy to see real fans enjoying their beloved artists sharing their music with us 🙏 Big Sleep 🙏
Amazing band
no one plays the NGD bassline like Derek Forbes. no one
Absolutely incredible that this band is still Rocking freak ya they coheadline together with RHCPs in the USA 🇺🇸 after the same all over Europe

Adorable la période où il y avait Derek forbes
je confirme

Sheer brilliance.
Real life (live) Band , brillant !
thx
New Gold Dream, WOW! Just WOW! Wonder if the dude got his Celtic scarf back?
The soul of the original band.
Buenísimo...Simplemente grandes !!
Fantastic rock performance. Incredible to think SM were no longer thought 'fashionable' in 1997.
Love it👍 🎉🎉🎉 🤩😍❣️🥰🌈💚
Just came across this one mate. Thanks heaps for posting it.
Forbes makes this band. Too bad they forgot this.
In that period Derek brought balls back into the band
Hallo, Simple Minds..I loved your sond once, but political ways, I can not bee whith you no more and greatings from Hamburg.
just brilliant
The best ever 😍
Unforgettable...
Vi amo ♥️
Without Derek Forbes the current Simple Minds feel like a tribute band, the heart and soul is missing.
forbes and mick!!
once mel left that was it for me
Agree but when Mel Gaynor left that was the end. Saw them last year and no disrespect to the girls in the band it felt definitely like a tribute band. Sad times.
@@welshlad6427 Why did Mel leave? Does he not want to tour anymore or something. I even miss Andy cos he was a solid keyboard player.
@@welshlad6427 this comment has made me rethink buying tickets for their 2022 tour.......
Best gig since 84, , wonder why, Oh Derek was on bass, total new sound to Shes a river,
big merci a toi "Art & Talk" le tout est formidable is magnifique
You are most welcome DJ Erick.
Thanks and all the best.
Dont like knocking the current line up but this is as close to perfection as you get, especially with Derek on bass.
Really amazing 😉 💕❤️
Out of this world ❤
The band did keep up to date with the times in the 90s Bono wanted the limelight more than Jim and u2 were Irish a massive input on them being successful in America . I also think sm music was at there best before 1985 u2 start to come to fold
Thought the same thing. Being Irish gave U2 a foot in the door in the USA. Simple Minds suffered when Mick and Derek left.
early u2 was great the rest shite ...
Love it
Why doesn’t the camera ever focus on the bass player??..it drives me mad...Derek Forbes is the best ever.
Indeed. And the bass sound is a tad quiet
maybe he is a shy guy.😉
I’m thinking TV crew didn’t get memo he was official member or something like that.
It's funny that Derek Forbes rejoined Simple Minds for their Neapolis album, but I noticed that the production didn't really let his unique bass playing showing through. I still liked the album, but I wished that having on the album made more of an impact.
I agree, it hard to hear Dereks distinctive bass tone.
Derek has said that Charlie played most of the bass on Neapolis, as they wouldn't give him writing credits. it sounds like Derek's on "If I had wings" and "tears of a guy".
legend music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mel king of drum change the sound king no the Pink Lady no war peace love and rock n roll stop war
dited to such a sickening extent to keep Mr Forbes to an absolute minimum. very sad indeed,
Wtf wtf wtf?? Is it just me or are there almost no clips of Derek compared to the rest of the band?? I mean even that keyboard player is getting more facetime than Derek. Again wtf?? Did anyone else notice??
Even that keyboard player... 😂

Amazing
Gilles De Dufief DE BRETAGNE
I remember at school they used to play "Chirp a chirp a cheep cheep"
I just smoked a joint ..
Where are the other two guitarists ? I only see 1 playing......Freud.....
Catherine Anne Davies did after a great job... and loved her way working with Simple Minds... but this guy in this concert playing keyboards isnt so good for my taste

Ahem.....no it's DIRE STRAITS with the incomparable Mark Knopfler making love to his guitar with NO pick..he is a guitar god.
Queen were the biggest band in the 80s until 1987. U2 were challenged by GnR and Bob Jovi in the late 80s early 90s but since then have been bigger than every band. @neon infusion - "Bob Jovi" the Scottish cousin of Bon Jovi?! I always prefered Bonjela. 😉🙏
❤❤❤
Idk why there so much hate to Neapolis. In my opinion its a good album with some anthem.❤❤
O cara canta muito!
🔝🔝🔝🙏🙏🙏❤️
SHOOWWW
I've been there :-)

Great War Babies as opener.
