What makes him so good though? I know he put up nice numbers against the weaker defenses on Cal's schedule. Against USC and Texas though he was completely shut down. Hes tiny, and not really that fast. Hes quicker rather than fast. He has the advantage to be starter because hes been in the system the longest. Gould/Tedford love the experienced upper classmen.
Its not about numbers just what most people see on the field. He is a good back, not a great one though. Hes not in the company of Vereen, Best, or even Justin Forsett. He's quick but not a game-breaker, and not someone that runs well between the tackles. He will play plenty this year I just hope to see Anderson and Brendan Bigelow in the mix often. And CJ is a senior this year. Last season he was a junior transfer from Lane.
Oregon is a very good team, but they have FAR from an elite defense. They have a small defensive front that many teams ran on last year. He's quick but not really fast. He doesn't have the break away speed you saw with Vereen or Best. And that really does show in his numbers. Hes a nice change of pace back but not someone that should be playing every down. And running between the tackles is certainly not his strong suit.

CJ Anderson should start this season. Cal needs a back that can run between the tackles.
