It looks like the paper is the weakest link in this set - I agree with you that it's likely a sizing issue. As a non-beginner, I don't find the paints very exciting mostly due to their lack of dispersion. The brushes came across much better, as they seemed to perform well and are attractive to boot. Thanks for the thorough analysis, Ann. 👍
On the nose, Irene! Thanks for watching & leaving your comment. You’re right about the brushes and I’m so happy that their delightfulness showed through the camera!
An extremely fair analysis of these paints Ann. I think the company should take on board all you said. Sets like these tend to be aimed at beginners. If a complete beginner coupled their paint with their paper, they would likely give up on the spot. As an artist, you were able to point out the paper’s flaws. Sadly a beginner would think it their fault but carry on up an unnecessarily steep hill, or at best, just hate using them and buy something else. Nicpro need to just stick to what they do best. I bought a 20 brush set in a tube - even the tube is useful, allowing me to keep them together and close to me. My brushes are all black, including ferrules. They too have beautiful points, and have a pleasant weight/balance to them. I would personally steer clear of their paint and paper, but most definitely purchase the brush set I have, or similar. Truly a delight for a very low price - cheaper than your package of paint, paper and the few lovely brushes included. Hoping I’m making sense. 🤷♀️ Thank you for taking this frustrating hit for the team.! 🎨🎨👩🏻🎨❤️
Anita thank you so much! I’m so happy you have some of their brushes and can attest to their amazing quality. Thank you for mentioning that! The coupon includes anything on the website so if someone wants to use it on the brushes they should be able to do that. I will love these brushes for a long time! And! I got an idea today about how to use the paper-so stay tuned for that experiment. I hope it works because if it does it will make this set even more valuable👩🏻🎨 👩🔬 🧪 📈
These paints look exactly as the GenCrafts, that also come with that weird paper pad. The paints are good for greetings cards and other craft projects. The paper I use for scraps or to make gift tags :-). Thank you for the review. I do have a different set of NicPro paint brushes and I really like them.
Agree! Yes I bet these are kind of a generic, white-labeled hobbyist or student watercolors that are sold under multiple discount brand art suppliers. They are fun for studio use! I just got an idea with that paper…maybe soak it in water, blend it up and press it into a ceramic cookie mold to make an ornament! I wonder if that would work? 😃🥰 Happy painting!!
I bought almost the identical set just for the palette ($13!) and give the watercolors away in craft swaps (mostly to journal-ers so I don't feel so bad).
Hi Nicole! I agree the nomenclature is a bit outdated 😔 That color is definitely a plus! (Holbein has a Jaune Brillant No. 2-an excellent professional choice) You are absolutely right it’s not in a lot of hobby or student sets & nice to see here!
That paper looked like canson to me too. I detest canson. I don’t like seeing those grids on my paintings. Nothing looks smooth Sad the paint doesn’t move well. I have a set of nicpro pastel colored brushes which I use for practice not necessarily for something serious but I do like the brushes.
Hi and thanks for watching and commenting! I have to tell you-I’ve never thrown out an art supply but I did throw that paper away💔 It just became too frustrating to try to make it work. I’m really happy to hear you like the brushes!
@sarah_pings_witherby good idea! Mine was such an annoyance I ended up throwing it out. I’ve never done that before-always found a use for things. Mine was a weird color, too-not really white but a purple/ grey cast. I’m happy you found a good use for it!!
I think that’s a fine decision to make. Watercolors have so many variables-this set is functional, but definitely suited for the occasional hobbyist. I hope you enjoy your pencils!
@@artonthecreek The Nicpro pencil sets are great. They come in sets of mechanical pencils and clutch pencils with refill leads and erasers for each type of pencil. A great art addition to get you sketching and drawing daily to build up your confidence in this essential skill. Like your channel, good content. Greetings from Toronto Ontario 🇨🇦 🫠
@janealan2142 hello Jane! That’s awesome-sounds like a great set! Yes, sketching and drawing daily is a wonderful practice 🤠 Keeping 🇨🇦 in my thoughts-wildfires out west are brutal this year. ❤️
@@artonthecreek The resrt town of Jasper Alberta in the Rockies has just burned to the ground. Absolutely awful. Those residents lost everything. Thinking of you folks to the south, awful about the attempted Trump assassination. The whole world's gone crazy. I like to escape into art. 🫠
Absolutely devastating. Here in CO entire neighborhoods are still rebuilding following the Marshall Fire in 2021. It feels like we are living in very unreal times. Thank goodness for art!! I appreciate your comments. Thank you so much and have a peaceful weekend💙
Hello! Thanks for watching and commenting! They convey that way in person a bit as well…I can see where this set would be useful for sketchbook work, hobbyists, card makers, etc. The brushes that come with this set are surprisingly delightful! For the price the brushes alone are definitely worth it!
I'm grateful for your honest and transparent thoughts and review. Thank You so much!
You’re so welcome, Laura!

What a great idea! This set definitely has its merits! 👩🏻🎨👨🏻🎨🩷
One plus is it has a Peach (even if they foolishly call it "Flesh.") It was the first color I bought open stock.

Da Vinci has a proper Peach too, and it is Pantone's color of the year! 🍑
@nicole127x YESSSS!!!! That would be a fun video to do! 🤔 🍑👩🏻🎨 🎥

I had one of these awful pads and I used the reverse (smooth) side for cyanotype prints and it worked very well 💙

I really like the NicPro watercolor tubes they are alot better formula than this solid set . The solid set does have beautiful colors though.
Thanks that’s good to know!
I bought a really nice Nicpro pencil set from Amazon at a great price. But I would not buy this watercolor set. 😊
