It’s without question my favorite video from Sweatt back when he was at his peak 😎 Also, he said the most underrated catchphrase again 😂 17:30
Almost no player has a unique play style though. Steph Curry isn't the only guard with a good shooting ability,Magic Johnson isn't the only pass first point guard, LeBron isn't the only hyper athletic forward. They're deliberately picking the biggest possible name for the comparison. I get it if it's some unique case Like a 7footer that plays like a guard being compared to KD but most stars like Shaq,MJ, Iverson etc have almost generic playstyles for their position with the difference being that they're just that good at it.
Sage is buggin on the Fultz take. I don’t really watch college ball like but I couldn’t help but keep up with Fultz and Lonzo in college. Fultz definitely had a crazy ceiling without that injury
“You’re not 40!” 😂😂 I saw someone comment on Sages CN tier list and said “Well he’s only 23 so idk what I expected from his ratings” Are you watching Ben 10 at 40???
I remember telling my dad about luka and how good he was but prefacing the hype I was giving him by saying "He's young and he might not be good right of the bat but he's gonna be really good one day" flash forward like 30 games into his rookie season and the dude is already a top 20 player.
They’re crazy because they didn’t pan out. Some may have made sense in the moment but the point of the video is to point out how bad the comparison turned out in hindsight. Also, you can say that sometimes, the comparison leave out things like work ethic or the desire to be great (aka that dawg in them).
Kwame wasn't seen as a bust at that point and still had a lot of upside. It wasn't until the Wizards picked up Arenas and Kwame stopped getting touches that the bust statements were made.

Combo that with the fact that not only did he not play college but he didn't even play in our national league either and did all his prep for the NBA at the AIS (Australian Institute of Sports). I was like even if he is that guy how's his body gonna hold up for an 82 game season when he hasn't competed in a single regular season against quality competition. His entire assessment was based off his performance in 1 under 18's FIBA tournament. Then sure enough, he showed some flashes here and there in the league of becoming something (but not necessarily anything all star) but every time he did it seemingly cost him a limb or ligament because he wasn't conditioned for the bumps and bruises of the game because he prepped in a test tube environment.

Looking back on draft comparisons is counterintuitive. We only see those comparisons as bad because of how those players careers turned out years later. Comparisons are about someone’s potential or just similarities in their game. Not everybody lives up to their potential.

Hot Take: I think Lonzo can still be an all star caliber player. Look at the Bulls, when Lonzo was healthy and running the offense, they were the #1 Seed in the East. Now they can’t even get in the top 5. Pelicans could’ve been a good fit too but SVG pushed him to a spot up. Lonzo makes whatever team he’s on better offensively and defensively 🤷🏽♂️
What's crazy? I knew Steph was gonna be that dude when I saw him play. I was so mad when the Cavs passed on him. I remember even saying that year... idc if picking him at number 1 or 2 is too high. Well when scouts compared them to X or Y player what they try to do, is being very lazy I must add, is summarize the style of play of a player, similar game style and fundamentals, not saying they will be the next whoever, but is very lazy to be honest, like when movie critics do the same, that movie is a mix of this and that with a touch of this, is just to summarize and be lazy. That being said, they did my man Dwight DIRTY!!!
I liked Hedo so I didn’t mind the comparison for Luka, but I still thought the analysts were off about him. I obviously didn’t know how off. In that way it’s been fun as a mavs fan, but man if our defense hasn’t fallen off a cliff this year and died in a cartoon explosion.
I don't know, some of these comparisons are apt, they aren't saying this guy is the next *living legend*, just that their game will remind you of them even if they are the Wish version of them. Like the Adam Morrison comparo to Bird is fair, he was a strangely tall, not overly athletic guy who had a solid shot and showed a little of that playmaking... he is we have Larry Bird at home. But then you have comparisons to guys like MJ and they show a guy who doesn't have a smooth as silk game and yeah, that shit is bunk. Just because the guy likes putting up 30 attempts from the midrange doesn't mean he is like MJ.
