I love Sharmila! I think she's different from all the Indian actresses of her generation, in terms of a most 'libertarian' mind. A great talent and still beautiful! ♥
Nice interview but it would be better if the interviewer actually does some research on the legends she is interviewing. For someone talking to Sharmila Tagore and have poker face deer in the headlights expression at the mention of movies like "Anupama" and "Satyakam" clearly shows the lack of preparation. Anupama was a game changer for Sharmila. In Bollywood till then she was a glamorous girl from "An evening in Paris". Anupama was amazing.
Actually, An Evening in Paris came out a year after Anupama, and it was the former film that was the game-changer for Tagore. Before that she was a serious actress in films like Anupama and Satyajit Ray films; it was An Evening in Paris that made here a Bollywood star.
@@athensga67 I stand corrected. For some reason I thought an evening in Paris was a 1966 release and anupama was 1967. It is the other way around. Thanks for pointing that. 🙂 However I still find the host annoying as hell for having no idea about movies like anupama and satyakam.
Sharmila's language is a great reflection of our 'ganga jamuna' sanskriti- the healthy syncretic confluence of Islamic and Hindu cultures that bonded these communities together for centuries. Respect her for that. On the other hand, the interviewer is dumb beyond words. Neither her language is polished not are her questions innovative. For one DD could hire better interviewers. Delhi has a wealth of talent that they can and should tap. Second, the interview could have done some homework before this interview so that she could ask questions that told her other aspects of Sharmila's life and career that people don't know already.
+akimana13 I strongly agree with you too...I personally feel that the interviewer could've gone a little deeper on Sharmila-ji's work in Hindi films under Hrishida (Anupama, Satyakam), Asit Sen (Safar), Basu Bhattacharya (Avishkar, Grihapravesh) and Gulzar (Mausam, Namkeen)...other than that I enjoyed the parts where Sharmila-ji spoke of her beginnings in Bengali art cinema, notably her rapport with Satyajit Ray from her childhood years, as well as the art of balancing between career and family...I found these very insightful...
I agree the interviewer should have been much much better...but Sharmila ji's language is exactly that of a Bengali of Kolkata of her generation and even later until the eighties.we all spoke and still think like the way she does.however her exposure and experience is naturally vast which makes her so eloquent.
why does she give her interviews in English? In another interview she was questioned in Hindi, but she rambled on in English answer after answer. Prententious.
