I miss Serena so much ugh the words can’t describe enough just how much 😢 her fight , her power , her anger , her will to never lose , her passion on court , her angles , her outfits , her speed, her forehand /backhand are missed
From the 70s to the 80s, it was very common for the top players to win 11 or more titles in a calendar year. Margaret Court even won 21 titles in a calendar year in the early 70s. From 1990 onwards, it became very rare. In the 21st century, only Serena and Justine Henin have been able to win 10 or more titles in a calendar year. Even the big 3 on the men's side have done it only a handful of times. This shows how exponentially difficult it is to win titles in the 21st century. Unlike the 70s and 80s when tennis was mainly played by Australians, white Americans and western Europeans, it has become very global in the 21st century with Russian and Eastern Europeans dominating the top 10 and 100. We have multiple slam champions from Asia and even a slam finalist from Africa. I will never let any nostalgia merchant make me believe the 80s and 90s were tougher. Serena had to beat the likes of Azarenka, Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Li Na who are all multiple slam champions with weapons and a lot of experience. Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber along with many others were very dangerous. Serena's level in 2013 was just incredible.
Totally forgot she snagged that random clay tournament in Bastad. It's such a random one to jump into right after the grass season. Honestly, I don't mind her swooping in on a MM tournament, especially since it was her first time playing there. Can't believe this was over ten years ago! I remember following her that year and she just crushed it, except for AO and Wimbledon, but whatever. She really gave us so much joy 🥹
That was a WTA tournament obligation Serena never met. WTA promises at least 1 top ten player at those small events. Each top ten player was required to do one, so Serena chose this one.
She won Rome and Madrid...... And the French Open!
And Charleston ahhahah... ClayRena
@@lucanerone5497 , he's referencing a quote she made about Safina. Not sure if you understood his joke.

Greatest season of her career
2013 Clayrena was truly divine. You just had to be there. Serena, there will never be another. Thanks for the video.

Federer - three times, three consecutive years 2004-2006. Nadal two times in 2005 and then again in 2013. Djokovic also twice - in 2011 and in 2015.
Keep in mind too, the draws were not as big in the 70s, so it was possible to win an event with just two matches played.
@piper998877 That's very true. The gap in quality between the top players and the others was wide.

I wish I could tattoo this season on my arm
Just think, she was just points away from winning titles in Doha and Cincinnati that year.
