Ford should bring the Everest to the US and perhaps sell it there as the next-gen Explorer. While reviving the Explorer as a rename of the Ranger-based Everest would take aim straight for the Toyota 4Runner and brings the Explorer nameplate back to its roots as a truck-based midsize SUV, it will ultimately and unsurprisingly yank Ford out of the crowded 3-row crossover segment which should be a good sign.
I am in that camp of wanting a solid roof more refined Bronco. I did just this past month swap out my 2 door Badlands Bronco for a 2 door v8 Defender. I am curious since the Everest seems to be an SUV version of the Ranger, a Raptor version of the Everest would be awesome.
Hey Dave! Is there a way to get all four corners of "grab handles" installed in the new Ranger for our North American market? They certainly offer them elsewhere. Many Thanks, Graham.
Great looking SUV. Not enough to get me out of my Bronco, but I feel Ford needs to compete with the body on frame SUV Off road market that they abandoned when they crossovered the Explorer. Imagine a world where the half ton Bronco never happened, and stayed in production and you get Bronco 6G. Imagine the Explorer never left its original intent and you get Everest.
Everest would be really cool here in America. I love my bronco, but man it’s loud in the cab while driving down the highway. That’s with the hardtop and putting dynomat on the roof.
I'll buy an Everest Raptor! I have had two 4Runners over the past 12 years, as my recreation trail toys, and now have a new GX 550, that is not a 4Runner replacement, but an alternative to my usual Land Rover daily driver. We'll see how it goes! I do not want or like a removable roof, so Bronco and Wrangler are not an option for me. I have been wanting a non Toyota offroad use 4x4 SUV, but the North American market lacks what I want. The Everest has always intrigued me! Hopefully you are right!
Perhaps bringing the Everest stateside (as the Explorer) might trigger a response from GM in the form of four Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon-based SUVs namely the Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Typhoon, Buick Rainier, and Cadillac Escalade Sport.
The Ford Everest Sport V6 is probably the sweet spot, as the extra 1” lift with tyres they put on the Tremor is not great and for the same money you’d look to put your own 2-3” lift and better wheels and tyre set.
The Bronco is nearly the same size as Explorer and doesn’t effect either. It may never come to the states but I think Ford could really take away 4Runner sales right now. They could have this up and at dealers in 8 months if they really wanted to.
While that would mean the Bronco would be forced to sacrifice its entry-level trims and perhaps move the pricing of other trims excluding the flagship Raptor upwards, Ford might make the Everest worthy of taking on the 4Runner. Ford might even rename the US-market Everest as the Explorer for the 2027 MY.
I feel the Bronco Everglades was more segmented for overlanding, the Everest would be a good replacement with the Everglades going away for 25. Also the pricing aligns. Sadly between the Everest and Bronco one will get slow sales and with the Bronco being expensive to produce could start pushing the line to end of life.
Gday from downunder and across a bit in New Zealand 👋 All that's missing from this and its a minor, but having the widescreen dash like the Ranger Raptor/Wildtrak X/Platinum would have been really nice. Not a fan of the square display.
I'm betting it will be less $US. The Australian dollar doesn't go very far. If they can undercut the 6th gen 4R like they did with the Ranger to the Tacoma it could be a hit.
Unless you know something on the inside Dave I'd say there is no chance we get this in the U.S. unless the Bronco's sales take a nose dive. Bronco outsold the 4 Runner last year by more than 17,000 units and is neck and neck with it again this year. Ford has the Explorer for everyone who doesn't want to off road and since they're averaging 200,000 sales of those a year I doubt it's going anywhere. The Everest just pinches sales from both without adding much. Sure, it could steal some 4Runner sales but not enough to matter. And if both haven't taken all the Grand Cherokee sales already I doubt anything would sway those still buying them. The Tremor version comes with 265/70/17 (31.6") tires and just enough lift for Ford to claim an additional 26 MM or just a hair over 1 inch more clearance than the Sport which sits at 8.9 inches so roughly 9.9" of clearance for the Tremor version. Otherwise the full time 4WD is standard, and the additional off road modes and armor. It would likely compete very well with the 4 Runner but the Bronco already does that and then some including last years sales race. And this year I suspect a lot of folks are buying the last gen 4Runner before the 4 cylinder arrives otherwise sales wouldn't be quite as close. Unfortunately, a business case doesn't really exist for the Everest in the U.S. right now. But that didn't stop them from building the Lightening EV pickup soooo, maybe? But, seriously, the body on frame SUV market is a very small one and hasn't increased in total sales between the Wrangler, 4Runner and Bronco since it's peak in 2021 when the three sold a combined total of 457,475 units with the Wrangler making up almost half of those sales at 204,610 sales. Since then the Bronco has gained in average sales while the 4Runner and Wrangler have declined in average sales. No more market has been created they are just swapping market share in a declining market. In 2022 the totals were 401,980. In 2023 they were 392,918. And the projected numbers through the end of 2024 would put the three totaling 384,999. It would be a serious financial risk for Ford to bring another player to a shrinking market. Talk is cheap so it sounds like there is infinite interest in such vehicles but people actually vote with their wallets and they aren't buying what they claim they want. Never do. That's why we don't have diesels and only a few manuals.
I think part of the "declining" market since 21 is the push for EV. We see that hasnt worked out as most makes had hoped for. There is still some life in the ole body on frame segment and Ford has the global trucks / SUVs to bring in "IF" needed.
If Toyota already builds the 4Runner in Japan, can’t they just sell it both there and abroad and not just North America? The Fortuner may already be set for the axe. Toyota will still need something to sit below the Prado Mk5/Land Cruiser 250 and Land Cruiser 300 both of which look almost similar to one another except for looks and appearances.
Ford may try but the key issue would be what powertrains would be allowed in global markets? The next-gen Bronco and the Toyota RAV4-fighting Bronco Sport could both be sold globally including Europe, India, Australia, and the Middle East and in RHD.
after a bronco next ......we walk past the explorer timberline moving to a fixed roof wagon or S.U.V. come on ford most of us go to the 4runner/LC/ GX550 overtrail
Really wish it was coming out next year. We need to get something and I’d def prob get this over the 4Runner. As long as it’s a 2.7 or even better a 3.0.
Better yet, Ford would sell the Everest in America as the Explorer just like how Nissan is selling the upscale Patrol Y-Series stateside as the Armada nowadays. While that will ultimately cost Ford a Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride rival outright, the blue oval brand would finally have a real Toyota 4Runner fighter in the game after 15 years. The Bronco is more Jeep-like than Ranger-like to begin with.

Sales of the Explorer crossover will be cannibalized anyway. Ford may need to move the starting price of the Bronco to within the $45K-$50K range. Ford’s sole crossovers in North America would end up being the Bronco Sport and the Mustang Mach-E while the rest will be trucks, BoF SUVs, and the Mustang coupe.
Ford may bring the Everest stateside and perhaps rename it there as the Explorer. The US-market Everest would be built at the same plant as the existing Explorer. Explorer should be better off as a BoF SUV rather than some dull crossover.

Raptor SUV would kill in the states. Congrats on the Defender
I could definitely see myself driving a Ford Everest over a 6G 4Runner or Land Cruiser. This is coming from a hard line Toyota 4th Gen 4Runner fan.
It is good looking. I wish the interior was more rugged and less refined. That’s one up the Taco and 4Runner have.
Does the the Everest and Australian Ranger use Dana axles?
That is a great question.. I sadly do not have the answer
That would be the 1st ford I would own
Great looking, and aggressive. Your correct as in a fixed roof SUV, this is amazing. Definitely would take this over the explorer sport.
Good call!

How is this going to compete with the ford explorer? They offer the timberline model which is supposed to be off road model.
