At least Starlight wasn't bias toward Trixie to the point where she would ruin the chances of the other candidates. That's what made the episode better, especially when all the other candidates left or were taken out fairly in comparison.
The ending was super dumb. Entire episode is about merits and anti nepotism but in the end she hired her friends onto positons without checking their abilities or making a proper search for competent candidates. Its a horrible episode for kids. Its just teach them to choose their own friends instead people who have the passion and talent to take the job.

I think my favorite moment was when Big Mac was in Starlight's office, and it's kinda implied that he's pulling himself out of the race because he's uncomfortable with the job requirements. I think it was a small thing, but it's nice to see the show showing that it's okay to step out of or back out of something if you're no longer comfortable with it, whether or not you knew that something that makes you uncomfortable would be required of you. I was always told you can't quit something no matter what, you have to keep going and finish what you started, but that's not really true; if something is no longer benefiting you, mentally or otherwise, and especially isn't benefiting others, then you shouldn't be forced to continue to completion. I dunno, just my two cents I suppose. Thank you again for a wonderful review and commentary.
DWK had mentioned this a while back but this episode really justified what he said, that the real magic of mlp isn't from spells or magical creatures, it's that every character that strives to be better is able to find their purpose and fulfill a destiny that betters the world. Starlight, Trixie and Sunburst are all characters who went from rock bottom and now are going to teach and guide future generations to make a better world, that is something we all should hope we can achieve.

Trixie being the next student councilor might not be entirely "realistic", but I think she's just about as equally qualified for the job as Starlight ever was in the beginning.

I was surprised Starlight wasn't a lot more worried when Dr. Hooves started talking about time travel. She has experience with that and it doesn't turn out well.
Really can’t blame starlight for the choices she had to make. it reminded me of the time where I ended up kicking one of my friends out of my house. let’s just say that he wasn’t being fair to neither me or our third roommate. The whole reason why he wanted to be my roommate is because he wants quality time with his friends. Doesn’t work well for me since I would be too exhausted from work to even go out. There were times that he would even break some of the House rules and not completing his responsibilities. I tried not to be the one to force my hand upon him but he left me no choice. It can be difficult to find someone who can help out even if they are your friends. I really enjoyed most of the scenes where the candidates were doing these challenges from big Mac in the conference to Octavia’s field trip.

Welp, seeing as how this is the last focus Starlight is gonna get, I think I might as well talk about her rather than the episode itself (Short review though: Funny and endearing as usual and OMG THEY ACTUALLY SAID "DOCTOR WHOOVES"!!!) Because I have no idea what the popular consensus is with her now that the show is ending and she has been part of it for over half of it. I´m aware that, as a villain she was rather well received. But when she became a hero, I remember people not being too keen on her. Either because they didn´t think she was simpathetic enough or just because she was a new adition to the cast. But to me personally, I found her endearing and likable almost right away! I´m not sure why. Maybe because her constant self doubt and nervous breakdowns are very relatable to me or maybe, similar to what happened with almost all the others in this show, her voice acting won me over. Now we are at the end, and the sad thing is that, if G5 uses characters from this generation, I don´t think we´ll see Starlight with the Mane 6 again, for many reasons (Though sadly she has a better shot than Sunset Shimmer, my favorite character overall). But I can say I enjoyed her run, and I do consider little ol´StarGlimm to be as much a part of the main cast as Spike or the CMC.
Like the episode my favorite moments is when Big Mac was struggling with Silverstream's guardian and when Starlight was talking to Phyllis in the beginning so funny this episode reminds me of Student counsel with Trixie being selfish and Starlight being to focus on her work again.
I was worried trixie would be hired becuase "you should do things with friends" or "working together with a close person", the lesson is honestly very mature and deep, sometimes you just aren't good for a job
This was a great episode. Loved seeing Doctor Whooves again too. This episode got its point across rather well. Working with friends may not always be possible, but it’s important to have them close regardless of what comes one’s way.
I remember when I was let go from my first full-time job. I spent an entire year working for a small company that made buttons, dog collars, leashes, etc, and sent them all over the country. I was devastated when they terminated my employment, but also relieved at the same time. I couldn't keep up with production, and the orders were very demanding (especially from Amazon). My heart wasn't really into it, and was more into creating designs instead of making the actual products. I sent each of my (now former) fellow employees a hand-written letter, telling them how much their companionship meant to me. It was both cathartic, and bitter sweet saying goodbye to people I'd gotten to know at that time. This episode also felt relevant to what I went through also.
I ended up liking this episode more than I thought I would. If Trixie's gonna be the new student counselor, then those kids are gonna need a lot of professional therapy.
Haven't even seen the episode, but hearing Dr. Wolf talking about work and doing what needs to be done is something I can relate to. I've pretty much been the 'bad friend' a lot back before I learned being friends with people at work is not always a good thing. I'd be trying to do the job right, then the person I'm working with would cut a dozen corners because they only worked in my areas because they wanted to hang out. And they would either 'get stressed' or laugh off me telling them they can't do it that way,. Despite the fact the way they are doing it is lying and going to cause issue with other workers and customers. Or they wonder off to talk to someone else and expect me to do all the work in a time frame meant for more than one person. Then I'm the bad person when judgement comes in the form of the management and I don't lie about why stuff isn't done and confess for my sake and the people working on the stuff later the inventory in the computer isn't accurate because they sat down and just copy pasted inventory counts from a old screen instead of looking to see if a product was there. But to them "We were friends, I should have been okay with it!"
I liked this episode. Trixie’s “wink” gag was funny the first time, but they made that gag unfunny after the next five times we saw it. Imagine if the Student 6 became the teachers for a day, I feel like that’d be something else. It was really cool that the Doctor Whooves name became canon too.
I enjoyed this episode myself, Dr. Wolf. I do appreciate Trixie convinced Starlight that Sunburst would be a perfect choice as Vice-Principal of the School of Friendship when she took over as Principal, with Trixie taking Starlight's former position as Student Counselor. The best part though: Starlight confining in Phyllis the plant for advice during the process to find her Vice-Principal.
Two lesson we - and creators, suppose - overlooked are for top managers. Hiring overcompetent empoyees and avoiding probable conflict of interests situation by an even more possible one (meaning, isn't Sunbirst would be about ED Minister level, combined with "Starburst" nearly canon as mentioned below) - what a nice twist to nepotism adventure it could be, hatts off to DawnSomewhere
I liked this episode very much. I got to see one of my favourite characters, Dr. Whooves and his field trip was very funny. XD Octavia was great too, but I can understand that she wants to stay with her music. I'm glad that Sunburst got to be vize principal, because this cute couple can work together. x3 I also like and appreciate the lesson that was given. Sometimes you have to do what's best. It may be even the best for you, if you're not fitting the position. I was a bit dissapointed when Trixie got the job of the counsellor, but the writers made a good reason for that. It was cute that Trixie defended Gallus against Grandpa Gruff. It was kinda sweet. ^^ I also got the feeling, that Grandpa Gruff does like Gallus a bit. Why should he help Gallus? No one cares about him in Griffinstone. But I'm wondering what the mane 5 is gonna do when Twilight moves to Canterlot. They don't want to be apart, but they have their own lives in Ponyville. Applejack has the farm, Pinkie Pie the Sugarcube Corner, Fluttershy her sanctuary. Rainbow Dash and Rarity switch between cities for their jobs, but they still stay mostly in Ponyville. How will they be still together? Twilight will have to do many things. How can she have time with her friends? They can't find much time with all together.
I was only working for less then a year when I had started working at a gas station. At first I was just tending to food and customer service for a few months when they decided I would be a great manager. Sadly, I had no knowledge of anything beyond what was taught to me when I first started my position and it only took a few months for me to know that I wasn't the right person for the job.... the biggest thing I remember of that isn't at all pleasant and I was fired/quit soon after. I'm not sure what I could have done differently but I feel it was the owners who ran the store failed to see that I didn't have what was needed for the job. Sometimes we are imperfect and it's okay to have limits but always try to the best you can and know your limits. That is the lesson I at that time.
Every time someone says this crap, they're comparing instances were characters learned SIMILAR lessons in a SIMILAR way prior, but the overall lesson or moral is still different in context. Maybe it's not the case ALL the time, but the majority of the time it definitely is and it's a shame people still believe that character's literally are relearning the same thing every time, under the same circumstances, under the same scenarios playing out.
Sad that is is the last Starlight and Trixie episode. So many callbacks to Slice of Life. I knew Trixi wasn't suited to be vice head mare though I think her being the new guidance counselor might help her change a little bit. Hopefully, Overall, this was a great end to the characters arcs.
I gave that episode an 8/10 Super Mushrooms, Trixie is such lazy mare when she has problems of teaching them, talk aggressively to Grandpa Gruff, and bringing the moss, trees and a Flash Beehive, my only favorite part is when Starlight rejects Spoiled Rich to take place as Vice Headmare, HA!
I’m watching the episode RN. Basically: HeathKliff/ Kiaba, SAO abridged: “now, I trust you all have enough pattern recognition to see where this is going- wait! That’s GOLDFISH, I’m thinking of GOLDFISH.” Is the clip I’d use when trixi does that “wink” thing
it just like teenage mutant ninja turtles 2012 season 1 when Raph or anyone want or don't want something they ask spike to take a bite a piece of lettuce if he agrees with the character who ask him
Atleast you probably got s 6, 7 and 8. Here in Brazil we just got the first 5 Seasons, and after a reaaaally long time they put an new season, and it wasnt season 6, IT WAS 8 ;-;
I saw this episode. And I actually like this episode. I actually find both Octiva and Dr. Hoove as the best two candidates for the counsel. Sad, that they end up backing down the position. And also, Trixie has killed Phyllis! Why must the good die young?
i did like the episode but i would have liked it more if trixie wouldn't have been so annoying throughout the episode. other than that i really enjoyed how octavia (one of my favorite background characters) had a bigger rolein this even though she dropped out which made it feel that the episode was slighly pointless. my favorite part was the ending joke "PHYLLIS NO!"
I understand that some people might be upset that Starlight hired sunburst at the end without any known test, but remember, Twilight did the exact same thing when she opened the school, hiring her friends as teachers, on the basis of them being her friends. This makes sense because it is a Friendship school. If it was a normal school, then no, but because of the school’s function, it makes sense for the ponies/creatures in charge to be friends, so they can demonstrate such to the students. Also, I think Sunburst is over all a great choice for the position.
i liked this Episode and it was fun to watch. thank you so much DrWolf for the video. i wondered where was SunBurst in the Episode as well. it coud of save the whole thing from the start.
I've actually felt a little disappointed when Starlight didn't think about hiring Sunburst until the end of the episode. If I remember right I think there was an earlier episode where they showed Sunburst doing something other than working as a "Crystaller," which like he said was a "big responcibility."
yeah i was wondering why sunburst wasn't in the interviewing process, and i wondered why octavia even applied when she has a good job as is, and recently i have had extra stuff added on to my job that was not previously going on but i had to do it since it was what company that i work for wanted so i know it a bit about doing what is required for the job

My favorite line of the episode was "PHYLLIS, NO!"
Considering how trixie loves the sound of her own voice, I'd love to see her in a 1000 words situation
Poor Phyllis, we will never forget him.
This was a great episode. Loved seeing Doctor Whooves again too. This episode got its point across rather well. Working with friends may not always be possible, but it’s important to have them close regardless of what comes one’s way.
Starlight with the Plant is Funny but I'd think Starlight should have gotten a little assistant like what Twilight has with Spike
Honestly I would have put my money on Octavia winning it.
When big Mac trying to talk to silverstreams dad
Phyllis Nooo
Weirdly enough, I'm CERTAIN that I saw this particular episode before on tv. I don't understand why I remember seeing it before.
DE JÁVU lol
It came out early in China, maybe you saw it before somewhere else?
@@chrisamador1216 I've considered that, but I'm 100% certain my friend and I watched this episode before on DisFam. It's really weird
I ended up liking this episode more than I thought I would. If Trixie's gonna be the new student counselor, then those kids are gonna need a lot of professional therapy.
I’ll be back after seeing the episode.
Big Mac trying to communicate with parents is easily my favourite moment of the ep! A WINK! 😉
Also PHYLLIS, NOOOO!!!!
1 like = 1 prayer for Phyllis. You will be missed
You had me at last episode to feature Starlight.
And as you take those first steps along a path that’s all your own.
I was just happy to see Octy/Vinyl performing together as well
Starlight talking to a plant killed me
Two lesson we - and creators, suppose - overlooked are for top managers.
GIVE ME A STARLIGHT AND PHYLLIS TOY!
A very entertaining episode. Although Trixie has learned this lesson multiple times by now.
Just like Fluttershy
And Rainbow Dash
And Twilight
And...
That's how you know you've become a main character
It’s almost as if the writers can only write Trixie as a selfish and full of herself brat, to make Starlight look good.
@@phantomdragon3893 They use Trixie so they don't have to further abuse the main 6, like they did in Every Little Thing She Does
are we sure trixie learned anything?
ever?
Every time someone says this crap, they're comparing instances were characters learned SIMILAR lessons in a SIMILAR way prior, but the overall lesson or moral is still different in context. Maybe it's not the case ALL the time, but the majority of the time it definitely is and it's a shame people still believe that character's literally are relearning the same thing every time, under the same circumstances, under the same scenarios playing out.
I'm kinda stuck on thinking how cool it'd be to call a customer service line, and end up talking to Dr. Wolf.
Have you noticed Iona wasn't in grave danger for once?
Sometimes your friend isn’t qualified for every job, but as long as you’re up front and honest to them, it will be ok. 😇
The starburst are strong with this one
I remember an old movie with Cameron Diaz being a bad teacher. This episode made me compare that character to Trixie.
Sad that is is the last Starlight and Trixie episode. So many callbacks to Slice of Life. I knew Trixi wasn't suited to be vice head mare though I think her being the new guidance counselor might help her change a little bit. Hopefully, Overall, this was a great end to the characters arcs.
A moment with Dr. Wolf, with Dr. Wolf?
Also poor big Mack this episode.
my favorite moment in this episode? PHILAS!!! NO!!!
Yeah, I think Big Macintosh is a wee bit very shy.
Phyllis was too pure for Equestria.
"This is me in a nutshell"
I loved this epidode because doctor whooves and starlight got to speak
I’m watching the episode RN.
Basically:
HeathKliff/ Kiaba, SAO abridged: “now, I trust you all have enough pattern recognition to see where this is going- wait! That’s GOLDFISH, I’m thinking of GOLDFISH.” Is the clip I’d use when trixi does that “wink” thing
it just like teenage mutant ninja turtles 2012 season 1 when Raph or anyone want or don't want something they ask spike to take a bite a piece of lettuce if he agrees with the character who ask him
I didn't see Sunburst coming. And I agree--Trixie is not the best as a counselor. Even Trixie mentioned that she gives good advice _by accident_.
Y IS S 9 NOT ON NETFLIX YET?????
Because they believe streaming all the episodes at once is a good idea, even though the Dutch have spoiled everything already.
Atleast you probably got s 6, 7 and 8. Here in Brazil we just got the first 5 Seasons, and after a reaaaally long time they put an new season, and it wasnt season 6, IT WAS 8 ;-;
I feel bad for u that ssuuuucks im re whatching all af them while i wait
And holy crap 4 LIKES YEET
I saw this episode. And I actually like this episode. I actually find both Octiva and Dr. Hoove as the best two candidates for the counsel. Sad, that they end up backing down the position.
And also, Trixie has killed Phyllis! Why must the good die young?
Great video! Doc!
Sincerely Littlepip from Stable 2
i did like the episode but i would have liked it more if trixie wouldn't have been so annoying throughout the episode. other than that i really enjoyed how octavia (one of my favorite background characters) had a bigger rolein this even though she dropped out which made it feel that the episode was slighly pointless.
my favorite part was the ending joke "PHYLLIS NO!"
Hey dr. Wolf can you do top 10 things you want to have for my little pony generation 5?
Starlight x Sunburst
You always look so huggable and tired Dr. Wolf XD Love your content and your soothing speaking voice
This was in interesting episode to watch
I like the episode because it reminds me of my classmates in someways.
