Like DJI V1. Remember the issues that UmmaGawd posted on his channel? Stuttering, complete loss of video, missing frames between goggle and air unit dvr? And that system was full price as well. It's V1 of Walksnail/Fatshark, they should have known better, but i guess they are working on it.
Nothing more great than a full release on a hype train having issues. But we see that with all products except for actual good companies who don't rush a product. Even worse present like it's 100% good to go at full price. They should have been open with us before release and not let the hype Carry them to this point.

I fly analog Freestyle and racing all day, my analog video is so solid I wouldn’t imagine trading up just for all the extra issues. And as far as I see the getting rid of DJI Hd would be a trade down for the current issues , it has its place and will work great when they fix hiccups. just don’t rush products to beat a competitor to release a product to the market. I’m a Fatshark fan over DJI but I enjoy and trust my v1 and v2 goggles..

I have this system installed in 3 quads and one wing. The three quads are working well with the settings you have described. I also have turned of vtx recording and crossfire telemetry because other sources have said that these may be issues. My wing has had terrible range issues and bad stuttering. My wing does not have a flight controller and you point out that without a flight controller the walksnail system will stay in standby mode. I am so excited now to try flying my wing with standby mode turned off. Thanks for another great video full of useful information!

As for the goggles you have two options, you can use omni which gives you video feed 360 degress around you, or you can switch to Patch antennas for long range, but they only work at a 120 Degree angle from the way you are facing, so anything outside of that will lose signal quickly.
Indeed it is. I'm thankful to have been in the hobby for more than 10 min to recognize all the warning signs and red flags that were showing from the get-go. A big one is the fact that Fatshark isn't really Fatshark any more.
@@nwcustomdecals They aren't. They're owned by Red Cat Holdings, same group that owns Rotor Riot. I don't think Greg French has any stake at all in the company any more. It was a good time to get out and he was fortunate to find a buyer, considering they're competing with DJI by using stolen tech from DJI. I'm guessing the plan is to eventually sell to the DoD, probably using DIYers as their unassuming beta testers. They have contracts at multiple levels with the DoD and NASA.
Yes, I was waiting on this to come out and see if I should buy DJI or Fat Shark. Defiantly going with the DJI goggles now. This is a couple years away from being as good as DJI.
I just ordered a set of Dominators from Rotor Riot. And now I’m already regretting that decision. I was on the fence about this system for a long time. Waiting to see if it pulled through. In a moment of YOLO I ordered them. Having to basically set all settings to the minimums in order to achieve acceptable performance is not satisfactory. Wonder if it’s not too late to cancel my order.
Why not cancel and just wait a bit longer? To either give FS/WS more time to fix this half-baked system, or to see what the DJI Goggles 2/O3 Air Unit have to offer.

@@wiwi7553 okay, thank you. Most goggles are very similar. The 51 degree FOV made me think the display is a mm bigger. I guess not. Makes sense, there is limited micro OLED panels and optic engines. Thank you.

@@ThirdEyeFPV true, like with software that runs on different platforms. but these goggles use all the same hardware. not to say that it should have absolutely no bugs. but it is completely clear that the software on these goggles was some kind of pre alpha stage. no serious company releases like that. and still nobody can be sure that these will solve the blurryness anytime soon. there is no guarantee that this will ever be solved, sooo.. intelligent people stay away, until it works right. I think FS has basically no experience with firmware updates, look at their older goggles. but anyway, I think that the firmware is probably made by walksnail anyway.
@@hallio111 It’s clear the point JB’s video that is that there are certain processes you need to go through to have an optimal experience with this hardware and software - in its current state. And none of this is documented from FS or Walksnail which makes it difficult for even an experienced pilot to pick these up and have a good experience. I’m not defending this product - just highlighting that the market for FPV goggles is small and that great user experiences in software take time, quality developers and lots of usability and QA testing. Even the likes of TBS have struggled with this recently with the mess they’ve made of Agent X.
Hello. Awesome videos. Just got into FPV and I’m using walksnail/Fatshark dominator. I purchased cheaper Omni antennas and when I went a little far(still in line of sight) the screen would start flashing red border. So if thought maybe the cheap antennas were it. Purchased rotoriot patch/omni antennas went to fly today and still get the red flashing border. Not sure what that means. My rssi signal is 90 so I don’t think it’s that. I’m lost. Kinda scared to fly any further.
I personally have had good luck with the system, I have had a couple of latency spikes. But like there was a school in between me and the quad. I will try it on 700 mW. Instead of 1200 mW. And see if I get better results. As always thanks for the great content!
Will unlocking the channel and run at higher speeds in general won't burn up my VTX in my whoop will it? I'm running 1s walksnail lite VTX and I don't know if it will damage the equipment due to too much frequency power?

I’ve moved from Fatshark to sky04X and been pleased with it. I wish fatshark did some innovation on digital not this system . That menu is so clearly a DJI goggles system presented in a different way but functions look so buggy.
any hope that we can get away from having to do a reset all after the firmware updates? It is a small pain to have to rebind all aircraft to the goggles. Today for me not a big deal as I only have one or two. But more than that then it becomes a huge maintenance task.
Pretty common issue with firmware in many devices… would be cool if you could “reset all, except binds” that would be awesome! Walksnail… if you are listening, see if you could implement this in your system!
This would annoy me, as well. One of the biggest pain in the asses of owning the DJI fpv drone and having Vistas and air units was having to rebind either or, after using the other. I hope they figured that out, since it looks like they're going to use the same system for the 03 air unit as they did for the DJI fpv. I barely flew the thing, mostly because I didn't want to rebind eight AU and Vistas after each use, and having dedicated goggles is too Rich for my blood.
Good info! So a patch on the TX ant1 gives more range. But what if you fly behind yourself or outside the patch range. Will your image freeze of drops black. What happens then? My guess is a patch on ant1 is only usable if flying long range in front of you.
@@Fpvfixit Agreed - because Carl saved the system after Fat Shark threw it away. Which they will undoubtedly also do with this new system if the DJI Goggles 2 and O3 Air Unit sell well - leaving all of their customers unsupported and in the lurch again.
Fatshark basically hyped you and then flipped you all off with shark byte and carl cared enough to save it because he knows what fatshark did was take back a promise after dji show up and pretty much wrecked our hopes for something good. And we the supporters of Carl, felt that.
The good thing about my analog hd v2s are, they are working. For all those years. No need for updates, reliable, and I dont mind having a lower resolution and dont wanna buy anything DJI or related. No problems about vtx compatability. I can sense if I an going to lose video soon. Antennas, I have spares and everything else. After I fly I rewatch my gopro video and that's it. We'll I am 43 years old but this hd systems are not yet juicy enough for me to invest. I dont even know if I buy one right now I could find vtx for them 2 years later. I dunno. I am quite happy with what I have. Unless someone makes a digital and analog all in one google, I ll stay analog.
what about the hd zero goggles that will release end of this year? you can use them for hdzero and have an external analog receiver that clips to the goggles

weird when I did the update I put both files on the sd card and when I booted up the goggles it showed all 8 channels, and then seconds later it changed back to 3... the 1200mw mode still remains but the channels do not exist.

Thats my case, BW. My goggles is soo dump. I am so stressfull and would like to get a dji. but I am a little scare about the FPS, thats a huge difference. Do You think, 120p to 60p is a consider difference to get a dji to make a freestyle? (easy freestyle😅)
I don't understand why the patch antenna on the transmitting google port is the best solution.... That is good if you fly always in front of you isn't it? if you fly behind yourself the patch is not going to reach the VTX and will loose the link?
I've seen multiple reports of people having issues when using the VTX DVR to record. This may have been mentioned but I missed it. Hopefully WalkSnail releases another update soon so some of the advice in the video isn't needed any longer. It would be nice to have something resembling a finished product by the time DJI releases v3. What we've seen from them so far isn't going to cut it, and if DJI doesn't drop the ball I suspect WalkSnail may have a rough go of it, and that would be a shame since having two competing and viable systems would be great for pilots.
@@LetsFlyRC I believe the speculation is that the VTX DVR uses resources that could otherwise be used for the video compression, so in some situations it can lead to poor performance. It's a solution I've seen recommended to people having issues, and if I remember correctly MadsTech mentioned this in a live stream recently when he was talking about the settings he used during testing. I don't believe he was definitively saying that is the case, but he wanted to rule it out as a reason as to why he may be having problems he experienced. Apologies to Ian if I misremembered who is was that made those comments.
Good tips JB for those unfortunate people.👍Personally, I hope none of my flying buddies buys this system and stomps all over my sweet sweet DJI video feed.🤣 No but seriously, we kind of have a routine where everyone picks a channel and some of the DJI guys fly, then the analogue guys fly, then some more dji guys have a fly, then finally the last of the dji guys get their first pack in and we are back to the one or two analogue guys again. Everyone is happy. 😊 Then along comes Fatshark/Caddx, with the cloned, janky, stomp all over everyone, walking interference system to ruin the party. Honestly they don't seem like they really want to be a part of this awesome FPV community we have going on if they think for a second this is cool.
I may not always agree with Botgrinders style of content, but he was right. The system isn't usable in a large number of configurations. In product engineering if you need an entire instructional video of specific conditions you need for a product to function correctly, it's not a sellable product. That said, this video is a great piece of information to help people use their system until software patches come out.
@@MeshJedi that may have been true 2-3 years ago, but all of the new stuff is pretty damn easy to use and doesn't have large sections of functions that don't work as intended. I plug an air unit in, activate it, and it works on every setting combination you could think of. I built a 65mm whoop last night with an AIO board, vtx came pre-configured. I selected my channel and hey look it works perfectly. If you have been in the hobby for a few years and still need this much information to make a system work, it doesn't.
@@csg2000 a new guy building his first drone is still looking at a minimum 4 episode series on drone building and programming BF and reading several large guides. Unless he buys RTF no solder drone and never changes anything.
What is stand by mode? I keep getting this message "stand by mode low rf power" fully charged batteries mind you, and race mode vs standard 🙏also could you explain what that is.
It means the video transmitter is not communicating with the flight controller, so your on-screen display won't work and the video transmitter stays in low power mode because it can't detect that the quadcopter is armed.
Thanks for pointing out the "Standby Mode!" I have this installed on two quads and one was getting terrible range. This made me realize that one is staying in standby. How can I fix this? The UART is on and I have my OSD set up and working. Also have 'arm' set to AUX 1 high. Am I missing something here or should I just try a different UART?
Does WalkSnail Avatar VTX go into stand by mode when your remote control and goggles are turned off, I am having issues with it getting really hot when trying to download video from it when there only thing that is powered on is the flight controller and VTX by the battery. Any solution other than a fan? I was hoping that stand by mode was enough?
The vtx signal been bidirectional would it mean not receiving the acknowledgment could be used like a fail switch triggering a stabilizing state or even return to home option?
So it’s only usable if you use settings that are illegal pretty much anywhere in the world? I know that no one uses 25mw, but having to ramp up to 1200mw to get the best out of it doesn’t sound a good idea.
They didn’t get to that part of reverse engineering DJI code yet. Remember how Caddx said they had the ability to implement canvas mode but DJI didn’t? Wonder how that came about.

I am looking for an hd digital video transmitter for my gopro camera which can directly support gopro's HDMI for my fpv project. Is there an option out there which can do this? All the fpv hd transmitter seems to come with its own camera.

BUT, it seems like a lot of people do. I kind of believe that if RR/Fatshark was not a part of this product launch you'd see a majority of people go "Fuck yeah Caddx! Way to reverse engineer DJI!" No one is willing to give this product the same sort of patience that people are giving HDZero (is it warranted idk). People wanted more competitors to DJI and when another option pops up. They seems to jump at the opportunity to shit on it.

@@DanZfpv I can't speak for everyone but if caddex/walksnail and fatshark was actually open to the public and didn't skirt around our questions and concerns 9n the product when we ask unlike Carl whose always had the community as well as our feedback in mind,... we all wouldn't have had to go digging for our truth to all this. Which made some of us outraged to begin with. Then because of youtuber hype and early release they netted everyone who bought them at full price and gave us a rushed product with alot of issues and missing features. There's is no excuse for this at this price point period. Yeah I want caddex to do fantastic with this but I'm personally tired of rushed products to beat the competitor. It's absolute bull. Slow your roll and deliver a promise.

I can fly analog, which hasen't been a problem for me ever. So no way I will waste 400$ for a year or two, to then buy the next best thing. Good luck with that. I am so tired of buying prototypes. I don't get why people are so eager to dance on Fatshark's grave though. DJI are a horrible company with their invasive activation and the ever present feeling that they're spying on you. We need to encourage digital FPVs systems that aren't DJI.
Apparently you’ve never tried DJI. This is not the flagship for digital...DJI is already making their second generation digital system that outperforms analog.
@@SilverFox80521 Basically I can't afford the 2 plus grand for the gear and I'm finding reasons to be happy with what I have. But in my own defense while I don't have the economic good fortune/acumen to buy the latest stuff, I have been able to get similar performance and satisfaction from a bit of ingenuity and tech knowledge. ie tune your antennae to the exact frequencies you use. Done with a micrometer not a 12" rule. Thanks for the friendly chat!
is it still true not to use 1080p and stick with 720? also what about the bitrate. just got walksnail so trying to figure out the best settings, also i fly by myself
"09:04 - Use 200 mW if flying with friends" "17:18 - Goggles interfere whenever powered up". Does power setting also control the goggle's tx power? That's why 200mW works better with friends? But you said "18:31 - google transmitting full power, all the time." That seems the power setting doesn't affect the google at all.
The Walksnail goggle transmits at whatever the last power was used when it was connected to the vTX. But since it's transmitting all the time even when the quad is powered down, you still need to be aware of interference.

That seems good in theory but in practice, even patch antennas have side lobes that are strong enough to cause problems. Having a patch will absolutely make it worse if you point the patch at somebody else. But when you're talking about just a few feet apart, I think it's still an issue. So your idea is sound, and would let you get closer together, but not like, shoulder to shoulder.

I really like Fs/Ws goggle form factor. After I saw dji goggle 2's design, I am all in DJI FPV video system. I heard DJI goggle 1 V2 compatible with DJI Avata drone, obviously new DJI goggle 2 will works with existing air unit/caddx vista vtx, hopefully.
I buy glasses for $600 since they have 1080p 60 and 50Mbps mode, but I have to leave it all out to get any results. I need to read 100500 articles to know how to set them up, because what I have now does not work. It is necessary to make a million compromises in order for the glasses to somehow show, but it's not the manufacturer's fault, but the one who uses them, because he does not know these "features". Dear JB, don't you think that the finished product should work right out of the box as it should. Everyone shouts in unison that this is already the DJI level, but as this video clip shows, this system is still far from DJI.

The walkinator gogs transmit, what frequency are they transmiting at(its like 5800 for DJI)? Wish the digital gog makers would be more considerate of the existing analog system, putting the gogs transmit frequency right in the midle of the band is a complete DICK move.
With DJI they have a narrow carrier signal that goes through R6, regardless of the channel youre system is set to, stay tuned to MadsTech, he's about to scope WalkSnail for us 👍 (well he already has, but he's about to drop the video if you dont want to dig through live streams)
I don't view all those videos so maybe you already answered it, did you also test how an nd filter on the FPV cam could help using the Bitrate better? I guess this could give nice results until 50mode is better...
@Trung Phan if you fly low to ground and have a lot of fast moving sharp details (gras, rocks) the codec needs a lot of bitrate to store this much information. as pilots we dont need all of this information to be sharp, it's ok if it is motion blurred. so we might even think it looks smoother and sharp enough, but the codec now has more bitrate left for other (more important parts of the image). it's an often overlooked feature since many pilots only use ND filters on their gopros...
@Trung Phan correct. and while on the example of JPEG: if you have a lot of detail in a pic - you will notice it's really large, while if you just take a picture of the evening sky with nice colors but few details - it's relativly small (even tho it has the same pixel dimensions)...
it still looks like a cashgrab- release. it looks like they expect DJI to steal their sales, and like they released it unfinished, because they had no choice. it amazes me how you can manufacture the PCB and stuff without a working firmware, if it is not a copy of the DJI system, which it probably is, not 1to1 but still. I hope for the early buyers they copied it in every detail and understood how to do that. because if not, by the progress of their programming, they would probably never be able to fix major issues in firmware.
Byte frost shark byte second fiddle to dji. Same pattern again I feel. Unless they get into updates and fast worrying thing is there already at50 mbps.
Hi Josh my name is Anthony I been watching ur videos. I have fat shark goggles that came with my rotor riot kit that cost $1000. Now the drone is solid. Goggles are ass as you already explained. I understand they are friends of yours so maybe they know I need better goggles. You know what I mean?
Hate to say it but youtubers are amazing advertisers for companies, honest or not. Most companies don't care if you spent your own money or they gave for free with free range. I'll always believe the chances of products can be rigged for better quality or performance because well, marketing. But I have noticed in this hobby over the years, there is def variety in products. What I mean is some things aren't always shipped with same fw for example but the most obvious to me is not all products are holding the same smd components now a days.
That's the trick. Get your channel associated with How-To vids to build cred in the community then push product for fun and profit. It's funny watching all of this go down. There's zero chance I'd ever trust a holding company and DJI to do right by consumers. If suckers don't get massively burned by all of this, I will be shocked (but not chagrined). I'd love to go digital but it's too volatile right now.
@@austntexan I'm hearing ya, but I love my V2s 15 months on as much as the day I got them. I have a fleet of 5" quads now and some spare vistas and og cameras on the shelf so no volatility at all in my foreseeable future. Keep your eyes out for discounted V2s coming up perhaps? But the best 120fps micro cameras with cheap replaceable lenses are unfortunately going extinct it seems.
@@KwaddawK Agreed. DJI owns the DIY HD space, there really isn't a question in my mind. If I were to go HD, I'd probably go DJI because of the range and out of the box experience. The V3s will be interesting. I'm waiting to see if the new RX will work with the Visas and related. If yes, I might just pick up some of the new ones. I'm on 1.3/433 for the most part. Works fine for what I do. I actually think HDZero will have a chance and honestly, they're the company that is most like the old Fatshark. Walksnail is not going to make it though, imo. It should be obvious that their product is, at a minimum, reverse engineered DJI hardware.
hold up. how do you solve the "Standby mode" not going away when arming? I have the OSD overlay.. but distance and penetration is poor. I think i got it wired correctly. How do I check?
If you have OSD overlay, then you know MSP connection is working, and the system must know you are arming. You can try turning off temp protection / standby mode, but you shouldn't have to :-/

@@JoshuaBardwell That was it btw. Turned off 'standby mode' manually today and had double the reach with just 250mW and I wasn't even at the limit (still 25mbs). Walksnail/FatShark need to work on this. I think people are showing bad results because communication and support is poor.
Hey Joshua, the HDMI out on the Goggles is not working even after the latest firmware. Have you heard about this problem? You know if there’s a setting I’m not turning on?
There's no setting. And no known bug that I'm aware of. Most likely you have the goggles in high framerate mode, but your monitor doesn't support 100 fps. Change the goggles to low framerate 60 fps.
Thanks a lot for the great video. (2$ well spent ob your Patreon ;)) This sums up a few good points that I will also make sure to try next flight… even small things like resetting the goggles, not sure I did that last time. One thing that I also heard from a few with 23.23.4 is turning off the VTX recording.

Like DJI V1. Remember the issues that UmmaGawd posted on his channel? Stuttering, complete loss of video, missing frames between goggle and air unit dvr? And that system was full price as well. It's V1 of Walksnail/Fatshark, they should have known better, but i guess they are working on it.

I fly analog Freestyle and racing all day, my analog video is so solid I wouldn’t imagine trading up just for all the extra issues. And as far as I see the getting rid of DJI Hd would be a trade down for the current issues , it has its place and will work great when they fix hiccups. just don’t rush products to beat a competitor to release a product to the market. I’m a Fatshark fan over DJI but I enjoy and trust my v1 and v2 goggles..

I have this system installed in 3 quads and one wing. The three quads are working well with the settings you have described. I also have turned of vtx recording and crossfire telemetry because other sources have said that these may be issues. My wing has had terrible range issues and bad stuttering. My wing does not have a flight controller and you point out that without a flight controller the walksnail system will stay in standby mode. I am so excited now to try flying my wing with standby mode turned off. Thanks for another great video full of useful information!

As for the goggles you have two options, you can use omni which gives you video feed 360 degress around you, or you can switch to Patch antennas for long range, but they only work at a 120 Degree angle from the way you are facing, so anything outside of that will lose signal quickly.

Indeed it is. I'm thankful to have been in the hobby for more than 10 min to recognize all the warning signs and red flags that were showing from the get-go. A big one is the fact that Fatshark isn't really Fatshark any more.

@@nwcustomdecals They aren't. They're owned by Red Cat Holdings, same group that owns Rotor Riot. I don't think Greg French has any stake at all in the company any more. It was a good time to get out and he was fortunate to find a buyer, considering they're competing with DJI by using stolen tech from DJI. I'm guessing the plan is to eventually sell to the DoD, probably using DIYers as their unassuming beta testers. They have contracts at multiple levels with the DoD and NASA.

Yes, I was waiting on this to come out and see if I should buy DJI or Fat Shark. Defiantly going with the DJI goggles now. This is a couple years away from being as good as DJI.

I just ordered a set of Dominators from Rotor Riot. And now I’m already regretting that decision.
I was on the fence about this system for a long time. Waiting to see if it pulled through. In a moment of YOLO I ordered them. Having to basically set all settings to the minimums in order to achieve acceptable performance is not satisfactory.
Wonder if it’s not too late to cancel my order.
Why not cancel and just wait a bit longer? To either give FS/WS more time to fix this half-baked system, or to see what the DJI Goggles 2/O3 Air Unit have to offer.

Software is never complete. There’s always new bugs to fix, roadmap/backlog features to implement and optimizations to be made
@@ThirdEyeFPV true, like with software that runs on different platforms. but these goggles use all the same hardware. not to say that it should have absolutely no bugs. but it is completely clear that the software on these goggles was some kind of pre alpha stage. no serious company releases like that. and still nobody can be sure that these will solve the blurryness anytime soon. there is no guarantee that this will ever be solved, sooo.. intelligent people stay away, until it works right. I think FS has basically no experience with firmware updates, look at their older goggles. but anyway, I think that the firmware is probably made by walksnail anyway.
@@hallio111 It’s clear the point JB’s video that is that there are certain processes you need to go through to have an optimal experience with this hardware and software - in its current state. And none of this is documented from FS or Walksnail which makes it difficult for even an experienced pilot to pick these up and have a good experience. I’m not defending this product - just highlighting that the market for FPV goggles is small and that great user experiences in software take time, quality developers and lots of usability and QA testing. Even the likes of TBS have struggled with this recently with the mess they’ve made of Agent X.

Hello. Awesome videos. Just got into FPV and I’m using walksnail/Fatshark dominator. I purchased cheaper Omni antennas and when I went a little far(still in line of sight) the screen would start flashing red border. So if thought maybe the cheap antennas were it. Purchased rotoriot patch/omni antennas went to fly today and still get the red flashing border. Not sure what that means. My rssi signal is 90 so I don’t think it’s that. I’m lost. Kinda scared to fly any further.

I personally have had good luck with the system, I have had a couple of latency spikes. But like there was a school in between me and the quad. I will try it on 700 mW. Instead of 1200 mW. And see if I get better results. As always thanks for the great content!

Fatshark to sky04X and been pleased with it. I wish fatshark did some innovation on digital not this system . That menu is so clearly a DJI goggles system presented in a different way but functions look so buggy.
any hope that we can get away from having to do a reset all after the firmware updates? It is a small pain to have to rebind all aircraft to the goggles. Today for me not a big deal as I only have one or two. But more than that then it becomes a huge maintenance task.
Pretty common issue with firmware in many devices… would be cool if you could “reset all, except binds” that would be awesome!

This would annoy me, as well. One of the biggest pain in the asses of owning the DJI fpv drone and having Vistas and air units was having to rebind either or, after using the other. I hope they figured that out, since it looks like they're going to use the same system for the 03 air unit as they did for the DJI fpv. I barely flew the thing, mostly because I didn't want to rebind eight AU and Vistas after each use, and having dedicated goggles is too Rich for my blood.

Good info! So a patch on the TX ant1 gives more range. But what if you fly behind yourself or outside the patch range. Will your image freeze of drops black. What happens then?
My guess is a patch on ant1 is only usable if flying long range in front of you.

@@Fpvfixit Agreed - because Carl saved the system after Fat Shark threw it away. Which they will undoubtedly also do with this new system if the DJI Goggles 2 and O3 Air Unit sell well - leaving all of their customers unsupported and in the lurch again.
Fatshark basically hyped you and then flipped you all off with shark byte and carl cared enough to save it because he knows what fatshark did was take back a promise after dji show up and pretty much wrecked our hopes for something good. And we the supporters of Carl, felt that.

The good thing about my analog hd v2s are, they are working. For all those years. No need for updates, reliable, and I dont mind having a lower resolution and dont wanna buy anything DJI or related. No problems about vtx compatability. I can sense if I an going to lose video soon. Antennas, I have spares and everything else. After I fly I rewatch my gopro video and that's it. We'll I am 43 years old but this hd systems are not yet juicy enough for me to invest. I dont even know if I buy one right now I could find vtx for them 2 years later. I dunno. I am quite happy with what I have. Unless someone makes a digital and analog all in one google, I ll stay analog.
what about the hd zero goggles that will release end of this year? you can use them for hdzero and have an external analog receiver that clips to the goggles

weird when I did the update I put both files on the sd card and when I booted up the goggles it showed all 8 channels, and then seconds later it changed back to 3... the 1200mw mode still remains but the channels do not exist.

Thats my case, BW. My goggles is soo dump. I am so stressfull and would like to get a dji. but I am a little scare about the FPS, thats a huge difference. Do You think, 120p to 60p is a consider difference to get a dji to make a freestyle? (easy freestyle😅)
I don't understand why the patch antenna on the transmitting google port is the best solution.... That is good if you fly always in front of you isn't it? if you fly behind yourself the patch is not going to reach the VTX and will loose the link?
What can you do about it? Buying the right system....dji in my case...works flawlessly in picture quality and range...

I've seen multiple reports of people having issues when using the VTX DVR to record. This may have been mentioned but I missed it.
Hopefully WalkSnail releases another update soon so some of the advice in the video isn't needed any longer. It would be nice to have something resembling a finished product by the time DJI releases v3. What we've seen from them so far isn't going to cut it, and if DJI doesn't drop the ball I suspect WalkSnail may have a rough go of it, and that would be a shame since having two competing and viable systems would be great for pilots.
I haven’t noticed any problems flying with dvr recording. I’d be interested to know what they experienced
@@LetsFlyRC I believe the speculation is that the VTX DVR uses resources that could otherwise be used for the video compression, so in some situations it can lead to poor performance. It's a solution I've seen recommended to people having issues, and if I remember correctly MadsTech mentioned this in a live stream recently when he was talking about the settings he used during testing. I don't believe he was definitively saying that is the case, but he wanted to rule it out as a reason as to why he may be having problems he experienced. Apologies to Ian if I misremembered who is was that made those comments.

No but seriously, we kind of have a routine where everyone picks a channel and some of the DJI guys fly, then the analogue guys fly, then some more dji guys have a fly, then finally the last of the dji guys get their first pack in and we are back to the one or two analogue guys again. Everyone is happy. 😊
Then along comes Fatshark/Caddx, with the cloned, janky, stomp all over everyone, walking interference system to ruin the party. Honestly they don't seem like they really want to be a part of this awesome FPV community we have going on if they think for a second this is cool.

I may not always agree with Botgrinders style of content, but he was right. The system isn't usable in a large number of configurations.
In product engineering if you need an entire instructional video of specific conditions you need for a product to function correctly, it's not a sellable product.
That said, this video is a great piece of information to help people use their system until software patches come out.

@@MeshJedi that may have been true 2-3 years ago, but all of the new stuff is pretty damn easy to use and doesn't have large sections of functions that don't work as intended.
I plug an air unit in, activate it, and it works on every setting combination you could think of.
I built a 65mm whoop last night with an AIO board, vtx came pre-configured. I selected my channel and hey look it works perfectly.
If you have been in the hobby for a few years and still need this much information to make a system work, it doesn't.
@@csg2000 a new guy building his first drone is still looking at a minimum 4 episode series on drone building and programming BF and reading several large guides. Unless he buys RTF no solder drone and never changes anything.
What is stand by mode? I keep getting this message "stand by mode low rf power" fully charged batteries mind you, and race mode vs standard 🙏also could you explain what that is.
It means the video transmitter is not communicating with the flight controller, so your on-screen display won't work and the video transmitter stays in low power mode because it can't detect that the quadcopter is armed.
Thanks for pointing out the "Standby Mode!" I have this installed on two quads and one was getting terrible range. This made me realize that one is staying in standby. How can I fix this? The UART is on and I have my OSD set up and working. Also have 'arm' set to AUX 1 high. Am I missing something here or should I just try a different UART?
Does WalkSnail Avatar VTX go into stand by mode when your remote control and goggles are turned off, I am having issues with it getting really hot when trying to download video from it when there only thing that is powered on is the flight controller and VTX by the battery. Any solution other than a fan? I was hoping that stand by mode was enough?

The vtx signal been bidirectional would it mean not receiving the acknowledgment could be used like a fail switch triggering a stabilizing state or even return to home option?
So.. the conclusion is.... buy a 1080p very expensive goggles but set it to 720p to have a flyable video. Does that sound logical to anybody?
So it’s only usable if you use settings that are illegal pretty much anywhere in the world? I know that no one uses 25mw, but having to ramp up to 1200mw to get the best out of it doesn’t sound a good idea.

The goggles may be the initiator for the L3 connection. See the OSI model, that is generic enough to apply to a lot more than the internet.

I am looking for an hd digital video transmitter for my gopro camera which can directly support gopro's HDMI for my fpv project. Is there an option out there which can do this? All the fpv hd transmitter seems to come with its own camera.
There isn't an FPV video transmitter that takes HDMI in. There are some wireless video transmitters, but not FPV ones.

Then because of youtuber hype and early release they netted everyone who bought them at full price and gave us a rushed product with alot of issues and missing features. There's is no excuse for this at this price point period. Yeah I want caddex to do fantastic with this but I'm personally tired of rushed products to beat the competitor. It's absolute bull. Slow your roll and deliver a promise.

But in my own defense while I don't have the economic good fortune/acumen to buy the latest stuff, I have been able to get similar performance and satisfaction from a bit of ingenuity and tech knowledge.
ie tune your antennae to the exact frequencies you use. Done with a micrometer not a 12" rule.

"09:04 - Use 200 mW if flying with friends" "17:18 - Goggles interfere whenever powered up". Does power setting also control the goggle's tx power? That's why 200mW works better with friends? But you said "18:31 - google transmitting full power, all the time." That seems the power setting doesn't affect the google at all.
The Walksnail goggle transmits at whatever the last power was used when it was connected to the vTX. But since it's transmitting all the time even when the quad is powered down, you still need to be aware of interference.

That seems good in theory but in practice, even patch antennas have side lobes that are strong enough to cause problems. Having a patch will absolutely make it worse if you point the patch at somebody else. But when you're talking about just a few feet apart, I think it's still an issue. So your idea is sound, and would let you get closer together, but not like, shoulder to shoulder.

I am still confused because the v2 goggles will work with the new air unit, at least I think so, and if that is true, shouldn't the goggles2 work with the old air unit too? if so, I will def. save up for the goggles2.

After I saw dji goggle 2's design, I am all in DJI FPV video system.
I heard DJI goggle 1 V2 compatible with DJI Avata drone, obviously new DJI goggle 2 will works with existing air unit/caddx vista vtx, hopefully.
I buy glasses for $600 since they have 1080p 60 and 50Mbps mode, but I have to leave it all out to get any results. I need to read 100500 articles to know how to set them up, because what I have now does not work. It is necessary to make a million compromises in order for the glasses to somehow show, but it's not the manufacturer's fault, but the one who uses them, because he does not know these "features". Dear JB, don't you think that the finished product should work right out of the box as it should. Everyone shouts in unison that this is already the DJI level, but as this video clip shows, this system is still far from DJI.

The walkinator gogs transmit, what frequency are they transmiting at(its like 5800 for DJI)? Wish the digital gog makers would be more considerate of the existing analog system, putting the gogs transmit frequency right in the midle of the band is a complete DICK move.
They transmit on whatever channel they're on.

I don't view all those videos so maybe you already answered it, did you also test how an nd filter on the FPV cam could help using the Bitrate better? I guess this could give nice results until 50mode is better...
@Trung Phan if you fly low to ground and have a lot of fast moving sharp details (gras, rocks) the codec needs a lot of bitrate to store this much information. as pilots we dont need all of this information to be sharp, it's ok if it is motion blurred. so we might even think it looks smoother and sharp enough, but the codec now has more bitrate left for other (more important parts of the image). it's an often overlooked feature since many pilots only use ND filters on their gopros...
@Trung Phan correct. and while on the example of JPEG: if you have a lot of detail in a pic - you will notice it's really large, while if you just take a picture of the evening sky with nice colors but few details - it's relativly small (even tho it has the same pixel dimensions)...
it still looks like a cashgrab- release. it looks like they expect DJI to steal their sales, and like they released it unfinished, because they had no choice. it amazes me how you can manufacture the PCB and stuff without a working firmware, if it is not a copy of the DJI system, which it probably is, not 1to1 but still. I hope for the early buyers they copied it in every detail and understood how to do that. because if not, by the progress of their programming, they would probably never be able to fix major issues in firmware.

Hate to say it but youtubers are amazing advertisers for companies, honest or not. Most companies don't care if you spent your own money or they gave for free with free range. I'll always believe the chances of products can be rigged for better quality or performance because well, marketing.
But I have noticed in this hobby over the years, there is def variety in products. What I mean is some things aren't always shipped with same fw for example but the most obvious to me is not all products are holding the same smd components now a days.
That's the trick. Get your channel associated with How-To vids to build cred in the community then push product for fun and profit. It's funny watching all of this go down. There's zero chance I'd ever trust a holding company and DJI to do right by consumers. If suckers don't get massively burned by all of this, I will be shocked (but not chagrined). I'd love to go digital but it's too volatile right now.
@@austntexan I'm hearing ya, but I love my V2s 15 months on as much as the day I got them. I have a fleet of 5" quads now and some spare vistas and og cameras on the shelf so no volatility at all in my foreseeable future.
Keep your eyes out for discounted V2s coming up perhaps? But the best 120fps micro cameras with cheap replaceable lenses are unfortunately going extinct it seems.
@@KwaddawK Agreed. DJI owns the DIY HD space, there really isn't a question in my mind. If I were to go HD, I'd probably go DJI because of the range and out of the box experience. The V3s will be interesting. I'm waiting to see if the new RX will work with the Visas and related. If yes, I might just pick up some of the new ones. I'm on 1.3/433 for the most part. Works fine for what I do. I actually think HDZero will have a chance and honestly, they're the company that is most like the old Fatshark. Walksnail is not going to make it though, imo. It should be obvious that their product is, at a minimum, reverse engineered DJI hardware.

hold up. how do you solve the "Standby mode" not going away when arming? I have the OSD overlay.. but distance and penetration is poor. I think i got it wired correctly. How do I check?
If you have OSD overlay, then you know MSP connection is working, and the system must know you are arming. You can try turning off temp protection / standby mode, but you shouldn't have to :-/

Do you know what it transmits at if its in standby? I get like 200 meters before I lose frames. True RC stubbys on all ports.
@@JoshuaBardwell That was it btw. Turned off 'standby mode' manually today and had double the reach with just 250mW and I wasn't even at the limit (still 25mbs). Walksnail/FatShark need to work on this. I think people are showing bad results because communication and support is poor.

Hey Joshua, the HDMI out on the Goggles is not working even after the latest firmware. Have you heard about this problem? You know if there’s a setting I’m not turning on?
There's no setting. And no known bug that I'm aware of. Most likely you have the goggles in high framerate mode, but your monitor doesn't support 100 fps. Change the goggles to low framerate 60 fps.

This sums up a few good points that I will also make sure to try next flight… even small things like resetting the goggles, not sure I did that last time. One thing that I also heard from a few with 23.23.4 is turning off the VTX recording.
