One of my favorite Brady Bunch episodes featuring Bobby. I especially liked the scene before this when he overloaded the washing machine with detergent and his dirty clothes and was bravely walked around in his underwear.
"Your suppose too take your clothes off before you wash them"! Bobby didn't know how to operate the washing machine. Talk about Bobby doing his dirty laundry!
Yepper and that was one of the Safe boxes from the truckload of boxes the Bradys were given for their attempted commercial in "And now for a word from our sponsor" - looked like a lifetime supply for even the Bradys. Part of the blame IMO should be laid at the doorstep of the local school since Bobby apparently didn't know how to read or he would have known NOT to dump a whole box of laundry detergent powder in a washing machine - or known what it means when a label says "dry clean only".
Mrs Brady, Alice, did you leave the washing machine on "Automatic"... Got a kick out of that... Alice, be like "Derr".. no Mrs Brady I was doing laundry by hand... Hah..
Yes but tide pods or detergent packets what most people call them didn't exist yet back when this show was on and even when I was a kid. There was only liquid and powder detergent then.
Even the "little bit" of powder Bobby put in before dumping the whole box was considerably much for a small load (never minding it should be dry-cleaned anyway). You are liable to still get an overflow, just not something out of the Stones' "It's Only Rock 'N Roll" video.
It happened to me in a public laundromat.....🤣. Mopped it up and emptied quite a bit of water....you have to use a spray bottle with misting water to flatten the suds and mop them up.
No they didn't, but there were quite a few things they did which real-life children of that era probably would have. Peter: Breaking Carol's favorite vase. The others would have been spanked for covering up for him. Cindy: Tattleing on the others, including Alice. Also for taking then losing the earrings that Carol loaned Marcia. Marcia: Getting detention at school for drawing a picture that her teacher found with an insult attached. Bobby: This Any others?
What a great song for this particular episode is so happy just make sure when you get on the bus it doesn’t go into your head because she might be singing it to Cindy B
turbotime1964 That door lead to a corridor first, from which you could get to the laundry and Alice’s bedroom. The suds shouldn’t have reached the kitchen. They probably shot it that way for convenience sake.
I can understand that to a kid like Bobby the more soap you use the better. Obviously he never did his own laundry before in his life because it was usually Alice or Carol doing laundry. I remember my own mother taught me how to measure the detergent for how much a load. And you don't put the whole box or bottle of detergent in the washing machine!
"All that pushing and shoving and grabbing? Hope I didn't hurt anyone." Seems as it was Alice doing all the pushing and shoving and grabbing. Someone once told me that they read in a book on the show that the flood of suds was caused by Cindy trying to take a bath in the washing machine.
Don't you remember at the end of the episode "And Now A Word From Our Sponsor?" The Bradys got a lifetime supply of Safe detergent as payment for the commercial.
I remember the next episode well. A very special episode involving one of the six children being put up for adoption. His name rhymed with "lobby". And it was Greg. Or Peter.
I remember in the next scene he got a good talking to from both parents. They didn't ground him after he explained why he gotten his suit dirty after his parents told him to keep it clean. But they firmly told him that his status as Safety Moniter at school doesn't give him authority at home.
They have to learn how to do the laundry at some point, because it's a skill they will need to know. Having said that, though, they need to do it with supervision first. He probably was just trying to help.
How much is too much? These days, liquid laundry detergents are way more common than powders, and the cap doubles as a measuring cup. Usually a capful will be enough for a full load.
How it happens:. Put too much of the wrong type of soap in the washer....front load needs HE soap. Top load, you can use powder or liquid. Too much of any kind, suds, suds and more suds.... everywhere.
kingcalafia: Yes definitely! Today's HE FRONT LOADING WASHERS are very likely candidates to do this. I've seen this happen to them while watching U-TUBE. Any washing machine stating to use only HE DETERGENTS will definitely have this suds episode when using too much detergent especially if the detergent isn't HE Compatible.
None of the Brady kids got spanked, although you can probably add this to a collection of things they did that many real-life children of that era would have gotten spanked for. Also include Peter for breaking the vase and the rest for covering it up. Marcia for getting in trouble at school over a picture she drew. Cindy for tattling on the others and taking then losing the earrings Carol loaned Marcia. Any others?
If I flood the downstairs, I get.. .well I won't explain the details of what my punishment would be here. But then Bobby here does it "Well Bobby now I hope you've learned yourself a lesson!". Most unrealistic sitcom ever.
I guess it was the style back then, but the Brady boys wore snug jeans with these big belts. No way would boys of today dress like that. I don't see that style ever coming back. We live in a sagging jeans era. And no belts.
Right -- In other words, guys dress a lot less dressy these days and sometimes even kinda sloppy. IMO, the baggy jeans nowadays just seem to add pounds to a person's physique, especially with average and overweight folks.
"Mrs. Brady. The suds are calling you!" 😂
“You’re supposed to take your cloths off before you wash em!” 😂
Oh my innocent youth. Watching the Brady Bunch and having an after school snack before the weight of the world crushed my spirit.
"Mrs. Brady, the suds are calling you!" My favorite line!
Lori Mullins mine too
This show would be boring without Alice and her smart comments.
LMAO! Mine too!
Lori Mullins I don't think I've watched this episode yet, but, yeah, I find that line kinda funny, too.
Best Alice line ever lmfao every time
I like that Bobby did his own stunts.
LOL. I like how Bobby is writing on the same line on the same page in his workbook for a half hour!
Sat at the Study Desk in the Bedroom doing his Homework,Concentrated & Focused before heading to the Laundry Room.
i remember this! i watched this show all the time as a kid!
So did I I remember when school was out I came home my mom made me something to eat and I watched the Brady bunch
I've literally thought of this every single time I've done laundry my entire life😂
If I had that 'time passes whimsically' music cue I'd play it all the time. I'd have a cocktail party with it looped.
I love all the little tiny pieces of music that run through the Brady Bunch. Gilligans Island has some useful ones too.

One of my favorite Brady Bunch episodes featuring Bobby. I especially liked the scene before this when he overloaded the washing machine with detergent and his dirty clothes and was bravely walked around in his underwear.
This had always been my favorite episode of the show.
I had the same thing happen when I was a kid, except it was mom's dishwasher... didn't know I couldn't use regular dish soap!
"Your suppose too take your clothes off before you wash them"! Bobby didn't know how to operate the washing machine. Talk about Bobby doing his dirty laundry!
He put in a whole box of detergent when he really needed less than a cup to wash his clothes.
This is hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I kind of want to recreate this in my laundry room
It’s easier to do in the kitchen. Load up the dishwasher with washing up liquid and have fun cleaning up for the next 4 hours
I think with today's energy-efficient machines you'd blow the motor up doing this
For once, the Safe detergent was UNSAFE in the hands of a kid.
Yepper and that was one of the Safe boxes from the truckload of boxes the Bradys were given for their attempted commercial in "And now for a word from our sponsor" - looked like a lifetime supply for even the Bradys. I'm glad my late paternal grandmother first taught me how to operate the washing machine properly at age seven.
Good. She probably also told you what clothes do and don’t get washed in washing machines.
Mrs Brady the suds are calling you
Probably one of the funniest moments of the series
Mrs Brady, Alice, did you leave the washing machine on "Automatic"... Got a kick out of that... Alice, be like "Derr".. no Mrs Brady I was doing laundry by hand... Hah..
If only Bobby had used Tide Pods.
Devon Berube or even all pods and he could have used gain pods to evening Persill pods
If Bobby only had a brain?
Yes but tide pods or detergent packets what most people call them didn't exist yet back when this show was on and even when I was a kid. There was only liquid and powder detergent then.
@@samanthabuss3314 hence the joke..
Did anyone notice this was the same brand of detergent from Season 3's "And Now, a Word from our Sponsor"?
1:40 I love how Florence is very obviously trying not to laugh while doing this scene. LOL!!
Mrs brady the suds are calling you.. lmfao the best Alice line
Looks like Bobby, Alice, and Carol all had a nice bubble bath in the laundry room!
I bet the clothes are now clean !
I can't believe it, the quintessential American tv mom of the seventies has left us! oh bummer!
I remember Bobby practically pouring in the whole entire box!
they did the same thing in WandaVision ep3 today - total nod to this famous episode and whole (inside of) the Brady house!
Oh really I didn't know that.
I will never forget about the washing machine when my grandson Bobby started to wash clothes All by himself 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank God for those gel detergents! Haha!!!

Wow, I haven't heard that canned laughter trac in decades
lol classic brady moment, but if this happened to me i wouldnt even begin to know how to clean up a mess like that
Maybe just let the suds all dry up.
My Mom would probably smack me & then make me clean up the mess myself. Lol!

Wow that sounds like a heck of a mess.
How long did it take you to clean it up?
Went a little overboard with the laundry detergent, didn't you, Bobby?
This is why they now have sensor locks on washers lol.
That surprised horror sound @0:51 😂
....because on the Brady Bunch, the kids never got wuppins'

Wasn't Safe the product they were supposed to be pitching on that commercial?
Tell the hippie director that.
So the laundry room is next to the kitchen? I thought that door led to Alice’s bedroom
turbotime1964 That door lead to a corridor first, from which you could get to the laundry and Alice’s bedroom. The suds shouldn’t have reached the kitchen. They probably shot it that way for convenience sake.
Bobby really needs to stay out of laundry rooms and meat lockers.

I wouldn't be mad it's part of learning

My son put dishwashing soap in the dishwasher. He's fucking 18!!! Had to refer back to this episode to make me feel better.
