Those triangulated valve covers (as I'm sure you realize) are to make the rear end of a formula Atlantic stiffer as the motor is a stressed member. You could try attaching that valve cover to a cross bar/ the shock towers for stiffness. The good thing is that for less vibration (if you ever drive it on the road), they'd be totally removable. Just an idea :)
no, it was a TRD AE101 Silvertop 20v 4A-GEU Group A engine in the Anime. The film is the one that is supposed to be a Formula Atlantic Silvertop 4A-GE, not the anime.

This is a 16v 4age. All the Formula Atlantic engines were, and in ultimate NA tune they make more power than the 20v is capable of. The 'Fujiwara' car (can't believe I'm referencing a cartoon) was upgraded to a 20v from some later model fwd racer, likely Super Taiyku series or something.
Tbh in the BEGINING of initial d I got confused because their was no Atlantic for the black or silver top 20v till I realize the Atlantic engine was a 16 value, but the orignal owner of my 86 swapped the head and did a lot with the ecu
Rumors say it is a formula atlantic 20v which I already knew that there were only 16v Formula's from TRD. But apparently on the film it was a stock Silvertop. But then people say "developers said this and that" which is hard to believe anyone at this point. Although I know for sure that the engine in the Initial D Live Action wasn't revving up to 11k since the tachometer was working as it was fake and the sound the engine didn't sound to high. @ericmies824 i know u asked him, but if ur gonna buy i there almost impossible to find since they no longer make them, n if ur going to build it urself it will run u close to 10k if no more however u can build a regular 4age crossing formula atlantic parts over and it wont look like a formula atlantic motor but the specs will be the same n it will sound the same, is also cheaper alot cheaper. im not a mechanic but have friend thats building a 4age with those specs

I suppose the idea was to add bore size to gain some push. I think it's his everyday car, not only a track toy. Also, the car is permanently upgraded by TECART'S people, so you can expect anything to be done in the engine...
