      Wait... that is actually an interesting fact... does it mean that Hamilton stands no chance against Als in East Semifinal? Does it mean that Toronto is favorite against the winner of East Semifinal?

    1:43 so in the CFL you can dribble kick the football and reset the down? Wow that's a real game changer. This is the second time I've seen it done and I'm wondering, to all the hardcore CFL fans out there, how come it's not done more of?

    • @teo_heel
      @teo_heel 10 місяців тому +2

      It's not a dribble, it's an onside punt. A very short one to be exact, you need to punt across the line of scrimmage to recover the punt for new set of downs.
      And some fans are MAD about this play.

    • @JamesGibson-iz9el
      @JamesGibson-iz9el 10 місяців тому

      Not all fans are Mad about this play. It's using a unique rule in the CFL. If defenses are playing to deep, why not use it?@@teo_heel

    • @teo_heel
      @teo_heel 10 місяців тому +3

      @@JamesGibson-iz9el I agree, I like this play A LOT. Some fans just doesn't understand what happened or understand and think that this will be overused. Montreal might try to trick Hamilton by using onside punt on the last week of regular season to do a long pass on possible 2nd and long when Ticats defense would expect some trickery again.
      I do like CFL for those plays. I don't like watching NFL and american football in general (even if I watched XFL Championship this season and Superbowl last year), but I do enjoy CFL (even if I still haven't watched a full game yet mostly because I don't know where to find them, they're not widely available, like NFL ones).

      @owenbloomfield1177 10 місяців тому +3

      I don't think it will be highly implemented because it is pretty tricky to pull off well. Very risky. Montreal seems to like it.

      It's always have been in the rulebook, but never used. The closest I have seen this play was in the Grey Cup when Calivillo ran with the ball in the dying seconds of the game, kicked the ball down the field trying to recover his own. He was unsuccessful punt and the Als lost the Grey Cup

    What a great game. Makes so many of the US NFL games looking boring by comparison and that's playing with three downs to get a first down.

    Betting that dwarf punt is gonna get looked at this off season. Once was cute, but if every team starts doing this on second down, it'll ruin the game

    • @teo_heel
      @teo_heel 10 місяців тому +7

      It won't. Montreal was the only team who tried it (one time it didn't work, two times it worked).
      Defense needs to play close coverage to not allow plays like this. Both times when Montreal successfully did short onside punts, defense was nowhere near the player who punted the ball.

      @@teo_heel thing is, refs will probably start calling roughing the kicker if a defender rightly blows up the guy trying this. This isn't playing to the spirit of the rules, and I'm against that. The league will get stupid if this starts happening all over the place

    • @stephenp.6395
      @stephenp.6395 10 місяців тому +1

      @@mattt2277 You'll never get a roughing the kicker call because it's only played when there's distant coverage of the intended kicker. By the time that coverage reaches the kicker he'll be on the ground on top of the ball. No one will ever kick the ball short if coverage is close!

    • @teo_heel
      @teo_heel 10 місяців тому +2

      An answer from a Russian guy...
      It's a very short onside punt. In CFL you can recover your own punt that crossed the line of scrimmage to gain new set of downs.

      @@teo_heel for real?
      And how often is this done?

    • @teo_heel
      @teo_heel 10 місяців тому +1

      @@DyslexicSolMusic in that way Montreal did it twice this season and I don't think that it was done this way anymore.
      But onside punts are a thing in CFL, search for it, there're videos showing them. The rule for them is the same as I told, the only thing adding is that every player who is BEHIND the ball at the moment of punt (including the punter) is eligible to receive the ball.
      And there's also "no yards" rule in CFL because there's no "fair catch" in CFL. You need to give receiver of a punt, kickoff or missed field foal / extra point free space in a radius of five yards. And there're no touchbacks for punts, kickoffs and missed field goals, if the ball is not returned out of the end zone, it's called a "single" and the team that kicked the ball in the end zone receives a point. Same with the punts, kickoffs and missed field goals that goes out of bounds inside end zone, the team that do that receives a point.

      @teo_heel oh, i'm definately aware about the singles and the major differences the NFL and CFL have with special teams, just wasn't aware about the onside punt thingy 😉

    I love the Kicking rules of the CFL. I love the CFL in generl. The game is far superior to the NFL. The CFL ruleset is like a missing link between Rugby Union Football, and Gridiron Football. I say that CFL should adopt a 10 min SinBin rule for certain violations.
