It’s a shame seeing The Race promote F1 Manager 23 after last year. The developers abandoned the game one month after release, leaving tens of thousands of customers who paid $70+ high and dry with a subpar product with no hopes of improvement. In all likelihood, this year will be no different.
While binotto was not the greatest team principle, he was not at all the worst. He came Into a toxic ferrari team and almost singlehandedly changed their internal blame culture, only to be axed for issues he had little involvement in. He was also an amazing engineer, playing a crucial role in the ferrari super engines of the late 2010s (while people may say that it was illegal, I respect his team for finding a loophole in the regs and regulating equipment). Binnoto could do really well at audi, especially if he heads up their engine department
Binotto is not gonna sit in front of a computer to design cars and autoparts anymore. He might have been a failed manager but he is above a designer job now.
Binotto would have been my pick for the TD Role as well. But for him to go back to that part of a Role I guess the paycheck would have had to been too big.
When I look back at the Porsche LMP1 project’s success led by Seidl, I fully expect Audi to be a strong contender early on. They just need to rescue poor Lando

It took Redbull 1 year with Honda to make a race winning car. The current Mclaren is no different, they are only better than every team at having the most number of sponsors and it makes me wonder what those companies see in Mclaren.
@Nightfury While I agree McLaren messed up the relationship with Honda (they thought their chassis was better than it was), Red Bull does have Adrian Newy and he's got a decent track record.
@Simon Norris Newey also has the humility to know that the Red Bull issues were an aero problem, not the Honda engine. He went out and fixed the aero, and now they are dominant. It started with acknowledging the source of the issue and combating it. McLaren seems to be living in a constant state of denial, which means they're not fixing that which is broken with their car.
Zack Brown is a bit of an odd one for me. I can never judge him that well. The first time I thought he was very overrated and I thought it was odd how he handled the Honda situation. Then after the switch to Mercedes, things went a bit better. And now he's starting to change everything again.
Anyone who joins Audi is guaranteed to be in for a treat. I strongly believe that Audi will become a multiple wcc. 2026 and 2027 maybe a fail but considering we have a new engine manufacturer to who f1 has the bent the rules for, their strong influence in motorsports even greater than Ferrari or Merc should make them the favourites. Exciting times and hopefully we see new teams join the party
Winning the wcc on their first year as an engine manufacturer and works team is completely unrealistic no matter who they are, and I see no reason that Audi should be the one to change that. Becoming a works team is a big upgrade in the long run, but it’s not like they’re going to be the *only* works team in 2026. They’ll be one of 6. More than half the grid will be works teams and they’ll be the least experienced of all of them (along side Aston Martin, but Honda have a lot more experience being a works engine manufacturer.) even if being a works team is a magic bullet, which alpine consistently prove it is not, then the highest the’d be guaranteed is still below the middle of the pack. We saw huge motorsport names come and go in the 2000s all the time, and that was pre budget cap when they could spend more than anyone else, and none of them ever got anywhere, aside from bmw who had a race winning car for like 7 races in 2008 before dropping off a Cliff and quitting

I have no idea why people are convinced that audi are just going to wonder into F1 and do well. It's really tough. They are taking over sauber who have never really achieved anything before with only 1 win and a handful of podiums throughout their history. It's not like a big German manufacturer coming in, buying them and making them a works team hasn't completely failed before. F1 is really tough to crack and the hiring of James Keys who has overseen two completely failed car launches isn't giving lots of confidence.
Seidl wanted McLaren to become the Audi works team but I am not surprised Zak Brown didn't go for it. McLaren F1 team is a big marketing powerhouse for McLaren Automotive and losing the McLaren brand in F1 to Audi would be a loss for the company.

I don’t see Audi doing much better tbh. If they invest enough they might turn around the Sauber Team that is underperforming massively, considering the car they had at the beginning of last year.
If I don't remember bad James key joined McLaren at mid season of 2019, that year the car was born competitive in terms of midfield and finish as the 4th team (Best of the Rest) while Sainz finish 6th being up from both RedBull mid-seasons (Gasly and Albon). Maybe this year Key was the less important in the design of the car but the development of McLaren was great. In 2020 both McLaren drivers did a good job, and while they finish as the 3rd team (Best of the Rest that year) there was a war in the midfield for that place with Force India/Racing Point and Renault. That year the car was good for the midfield teams, but was not clear the Best of the Rest. In 2021 McLaren was without a doubt the best 3rd (fighting for wining races) car while Ferrari was very near as 3rd car it was a little bit worse. But cause Ricci they finnish as the 4th team. Even in 2021 with a very bad start in the season, they manage to develop the car and be fighting for the 4th place (Best of the Rest in that year). I don't know who's fault is, but I think that James Key did in overall a good job at McLaren and they give hopes to maybe see McLaren figting with the top teams as a regular thing before they changed the rules.
@@Pizzonia295 I understand your point, but there was a big change in the rules in 2022. Is not as simple in that way to make the fastest car while McLaren is having economical issues. And after a bad start in 2022 they manage to recover and fight for the 4th place. This year they had and are having a bad start, but you can see some light in the path, with some bad luck like this last Spanish GP. I think is a 50-50 decision.
Mclaren is a customer team, that's the problem, they will keep getting closer to the back as teams like Alpine and Mercedes keep crawling forward. Zak is just an amazing marketing guy who has been able to keep McLaren popularity afloat and Lando overrated.
AM is a customer team, but they have Nando and they will be able to advance only so much, they will finish behind Mercedes in constructors and we will see a fight between Nando and the 2 Mercs by the end of the season.
I love situations like this, when Sidel and Key were at McLaren all we have is hypotheticals, one side saying they weren't delivered the other saying the team had deeper issues. Now we'll get to see for ourselves. If Audi starts closing in to the top, and McLaren continues to slide to the bottom, we'll be able to say Sidel and Key were right, if McLaren starts improving and Audi struggles to find form, McLaren were right. I see this creating some real needle between everyone if they find themselves fighting each other in the next few years.
is there an article or video explaining how building your own gearbox/engine/other listed parts effects your cost cap vs being customer. I know they say building your own stuff is cheaper cost cap wise but the builder has to invest in facilities, machinery, engineers, etc. It seems like Merc/Ferrari/RB costs would be totally different than teams that buy engines/gearboxes.
I can’t see James Key being an upgrade - his track record is not impressive and if his reputation of producing cars with too much drag carries over to Audi, they’ll be in for a rude awakening.
I know it’s not all just Key at fault, but during his time at Mclaren their resurgence turned around and started going back downhill. Hard to know if that was Keys fault, but Audi seems to be taking a big risk taking him on

Oscar will be tied down firmly given how hard it was to get him… I reckon Norris will be a relatively easy get for them though since he’s coming towards the end of his current deal
It's really difficult to tell what improvements can be attributed to what. Mclaren have clearly made a big step forward with the MCL60B, but if thats thanks to the new technical structure or would have come anyway as a result of the late change in concept last year made by key. It's very unclear, especially to oitside observers. I do understand where Seidl comes from with talking about limiting expectations without the wind tunnel. But whilst it's important to manage expectations striving for more and pushing the team to do better so when the new wind tunnel comes online they can hit the ground running Correction: The new wind tunnel went into use in June
Been a follower of F1 for more than a decade, pushing two. I've seen teams came & gone. Must say I'm rather impressed by how Audi is preparing everything for its entry. Everything is well thought out, methodical & organiszed. Not taking short cut, (looking at you Porsche) taking time in building a solid foundation, very respectable. I wish them great success when they do arrive.
Wouldn't surprise me if Saudi (Sauber-Audi) try to nab Norris from McLaren or Sainz from Ferrari for one of the race seats (the other one being occupied by Zhou or Theo Pourchaire) given Seidl knows both of them.
Enstone and France speak two different languages and the brittish differ a lot from the french in culture. The Swiss Sauber and German Audi will be closer aligned on that front without a doubt. Also, Seidl keeps clear management lines, instead of the giant corporate structure that Zac Brown prefers. Every time he gets involved McLaren slumps.
I assumed this was the Audi talent aquisition from the moment I saw the thumbnail. Very interested to see how this plays out. I hope Audi is able to shake things up! If Audi's car is even half as good as their livery, then they may actually be able to do that!
McLaren are treading water and luckily they have on their life jackets as I don't think they are going to start swimming soon. Even with the new facilities, it will still take time for these to bear fruit. How many more team re-structures can they take before they look further up the tree. First it was the driver, Daniel and now Keys and the car is still not much better. I hope Lando does have a get out of jail card in his life jacket. Piastri will have to go down with the ship possibly regretting his move to ditch Alpine.
My biggest question is, who will have better facilities - Aston or Audi? This is the first new big project since RP became Aston, and their factory upgrade. I don’t think (?) McLaren’s upgrades will actually be as high-tech/cutting-edge as Aston’s new getup, but obviously we don’t really have details on the full scenarios. I don’t think any other team has any major developments coming soon, barring RB’s RBPT program
I had high hope for Keys when he left STR as I thought the small budget was holding him back there. I'm no expert but his cars were doing ok at STR until he left. ATR hasn't build a good car since he left, their last good car was 2020/2021 when the rules were stable. I thought he was actually going to return to ATR
A bit off topic of the video, but related to Sauber: If one of the current drivers is to leave to make room for Pourchairez that is going to be Bottas, yeah he has experience but that doesn't mean much when you're getting outperformed on a consistent basis by your teammate(who only has 1 year of experience) since the tail end of last year
I don’t think bottas is going anywhere soon, he’s a great driver, and maybe a team switch could happen, he’ll be in the sport for a good long while yet
Sainz is next after his current contract; Lando will follow suit. I don’t think the environment at Ferrari is bringing the best out of Carlos that his time at McL did. Lando probably signed his contract not know that Seidl would be leaving. Seidl has had a significant impact on both of their careers. Not to mention the attraction of getting into a Works team at the ground level.
The technical side was the weak link for McLaren in 2022, they will jump up with the new facilities, but the technical side was still weak. If you actually look what Stella has done since, you more realise the issues Seidl, let fester with the 2023 car. The technical side was poor for McLaren, who are hiring two key personnel, each of whom are probably of a higher calibre than Key.
So how will the technical work be done with Sauber and Audi? The wind tunnel is in Switzerland and the engine will be manufactured in Germany? Isn't that a problem?
McLaren's problems start and end with Zac Brown. He's probably the only person who is still working at McLaren from the last 6 years. Zac Brown blames anyone and anything. The Amazon docuseries was pretty eye opening to just how incapable of recognizing personal fault he is. I'm amazed at how no one seems to talk about this. If Zac Brown wants a winning F1 team with orange livery, he should let someone else run the team. Even the 2020 3rd place finish Zac Brown can point to was VERY close to ending up 4th. I do not believe they have changed their blame culture as long as he is at the helm since history has shown he plays the blame game more than anyone else in the paddock.
You can not compare Renault failures to run all smoothly with Audi/Sauber. Well, based on James Key appointment, I don't doubt Audi will become upper midfielder, but I doubt they will be championship contender. Key is not bad, but so far his cars just feel short of being championship contender. As bad as STR or McLaren was under him, they still comfortably fighting in upper midfield, but I don't think anyone think the car have potential to be a race winning one.
McLaren lost big when they lost Andreas and James. Bloody Zack, my trust in him has taken a knock. His problem is that he was too co-operate in his decision making.
They didn't lose Key, they let him go. As for Seidl they could've keep him until the end of '25, but they chose not to. Seems like they wanted to make these big changes more than were forced to.
After 2020 the McLaren car did worse every season so I absolutely don't know why so many people see it as a promising move. I'm kinda worried for Audi. They have made the McLaren one of the worst cars on the grid with no topspeed at all.
Have a feeling it may be more like Sidel knew he was moving to Sauber which is why you see so little development this season in the McLaren car. That would put people under scrutiny and if Key was planning on joining Sauber when his contract expired Zak Brown could have released him so they could truly restructure for the future. Purely conjecture but would make sense with how the McLaren has performed this season. Otherwise Keys dismissal seems as he's been made a scapegoat. Understands Sidels point of view on this aswel your not going to develop his competitors car.
Nobody is going to ruin their reputation and future career by intentionally not doing their job just prior to leaving for another team. If that ever got out, Seidel wouldn't ever work in motorsports again.
This is the reasons why the entire board at Mclaren needs to be sacked. Destroyed any chance of the team becoming a works team and blaming the ones who design the car rather than look at themselves
They will keep looking like tools with the way they are developing the car. 2026 engine changes will bring even more worries and they need to secure an engine supplier when the Mercedes deal runs out.
James Key is the cause of the downfall of McLaren and now will cause the downfall of Audi. He simply does not understand the new era of F1. Good luck Audi, you will need every ounce of this!
Why Seidl was in a rush to replace Monchaux? Simple: He was bad, really really bad...He had absolutely zero respect and trust from the people under him.
After Seidl left, Mclaren have been in shambles. The car is worst than it's ever been, Lando is getting wasted, now they go and hire another superstar in the making Oscar Piastri and are wasting him away. What Mclaren needs is a major management and technical overhaul and I think Binotto would be a good leader at Mclaren. Seidl on the other hand is no ordinary racing mind, there's a reason why he feel Keys would be best fit in technical role and according to me Seidl felt Keys not been given the right tools and resources for Keys to work his magic. Wind Tunnel is one such critical resource for a team to continuously deliver in this current development race throughout the season of F1. Audi like Seidl is a ruthless competitor with wining the only focus and I don't think Seidl knowing that would bring on some one ordinary onboard.
In my opinion, the weakest Link at McLaren is it CEO itself Zac Brown I love your attitude and your enthusiasm for the sport and McLaren. But you obviously are leading the country down the wrong path. I hope the board member see this also.
Mclaren should partnership with porsche in 2026 season because mclaren went poorly performance this season it would be a chance to win drivers and constructors championship if mclaren use porsche power unit in 2026.

the mclarens from 2019-21 were not draggy. its the ground effect cars that he has screwed so can't assume anything for 2026

It's really difficult to tell what improvements can be attributed to what. Mclaren have clearly made a big step forward with the MCL60B, but if thats thanks to the new technical structure or would have come anyway as a result of the late change in concept last year made by key. It's very unclear, especially to oitside observers.
I do understand where Seidl comes from with talking about limiting expectations without the wind tunnel. But whilst it's important to manage expectations striving for more and pushing the team to do better so when the new wind tunnel comes online they can hit the ground running

Been a follower of F1 for more than a decade, pushing two. I've seen teams came & gone.
Must say I'm rather impressed by how Audi is preparing everything for its entry. Everything is well thought out, methodical & organiszed. Not taking short cut, (looking at you Porsche) taking time in building a solid foundation, very respectable.
I wish them great success when they do arrive.
Feels like McLaren 2.0, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Will be interesting to see how the two teams line up against each other
Wouldn't surprise me if Saudi (Sauber-Audi) try to nab Norris from McLaren or Sainz from Ferrari for one of the race seats (the other one being occupied by Zhou or Theo Pourchaire) given Seidl knows both of them.

Enstone and France speak two different languages and the brittish differ a lot from the french in culture. The Swiss Sauber and German Audi will be closer aligned on that front without a doubt. Also, Seidl keeps clear management lines, instead of the giant corporate structure that Zac Brown prefers. Every time he gets involved McLaren slumps.

I assumed this was the Audi talent aquisition from the moment I saw the thumbnail. Very interested to see how this plays out. I hope Audi is able to shake things up! If Audi's car is even half as good as their livery, then they may actually be able to do that!
McLaren are treading water and luckily they have on their life jackets as I don't think they are going to start swimming soon. Even with the new facilities, it will still take time for these to bear fruit. How many more team re-structures can they take before they look further up the tree.

My biggest question is, who will have better facilities - Aston or Audi? This is the first new big project since RP became Aston, and their factory upgrade. I don’t think (?) McLaren’s upgrades will actually be as high-tech/cutting-edge as Aston’s new getup, but obviously we don’t really have details on the full scenarios. I don’t think any other team has any major developments coming soon, barring RB’s RBPT program

I had high hope for Keys when he left STR as I thought the small budget was holding him back there. I'm no expert but his cars were doing ok at STR until he left. ATR hasn't build a good car since he left, their last good car was 2020/2021 when the rules were stable. I thought he was actually going to return to ATR
A bit off topic of the video, but related to Sauber: If one of the current drivers is to leave to make room for Pourchairez that is going to be Bottas, yeah he has experience but that doesn't mean much when you're getting outperformed on a consistent basis by your teammate(who only has 1 year of experience) since the tail end of last year

Bottas is not bad recently. His car got damaged in Spain. He is P11 in Monaco. Plus Alfa Romeo's car is a tractor.

Sainz is next after his current contract; Lando will follow suit. I don’t think the environment at Ferrari is bringing the best out of Carlos that his time at McL did. Lando probably signed his contract not know that Seidl would be leaving. Seidl has had a significant impact on both of their careers. Not to mention the attraction of getting into a Works team at the ground level.
The technical side was the weak link for McLaren in 2022, they will jump up with the new facilities, but the technical side was still weak. If you actually look what Stella has done since, you more realise the issues Seidl, let fester with the 2023 car. The technical side was poor for McLaren, who are hiring two key personnel, each of whom are probably of a higher calibre than Key.
McLaren are shit and now an utterly spent force, all thanks to Fat Brown, nobody else.

McLaren's problems start and end with Zac Brown. He's probably the only person who is still working at McLaren from the last 6 years. Zac Brown blames anyone and anything. The Amazon docuseries was pretty eye opening to just how incapable of recognizing personal fault he is. I'm amazed at how no one seems to talk about this. If Zac Brown wants a winning F1 team with orange livery, he should let someone else run the team. Even the 2020 3rd place finish Zac Brown can point to was VERY close to ending up 4th. I do not believe they have changed their blame culture as long as he is at the helm since history has shown he plays the blame game more than anyone else in the paddock.
James Key came from Sauber....he's just came home....

Well, based on James Key appointment, I don't doubt Audi will become upper midfielder, but I doubt they will be championship contender. Key is not bad, but so far his cars just feel short of being championship contender. As bad as STR or McLaren was under him, they still comfortably fighting in upper midfield, but I don't think anyone think the car have potential to be a race winning one.
McLaren lost big when they lost Andreas and James. Bloody Zack, my trust in him has taken a knock. His problem is that he was too co-operate in his decision making.
They didn't lose Key, they let him go. As for Seidl they could've keep him until the end of '25, but they chose not to. Seems like they wanted to make these big changes more than were forced to.

After 2020 the McLaren car did worse every season so I absolutely don't know why so many people see it as a promising move. I'm kinda worried for Audi. They have made the McLaren one of the worst cars on the grid with no topspeed at all.

Have a feeling it may be more like Sidel knew he was moving to Sauber which is why you see so little development this season in the McLaren car. That would put people under scrutiny and if Key was planning on joining Sauber when his contract expired Zak Brown could have released him so they could truly restructure for the future. Purely conjecture but would make sense with how the McLaren has performed this season. Otherwise Keys dismissal seems as he's been made a scapegoat. Understands Sidels point of view on this aswel your not going to develop his competitors car.
Nobody is going to ruin their reputation and future career by intentionally not doing their job just prior to leaving for another team. If that ever got out, Seidel wouldn't ever work in motorsports again.

The factory teams make their own, the independents buy from the factory teams.
This is the reasons why the entire board at Mclaren needs to be sacked. Destroyed any chance of the team becoming a works team and blaming the ones who design the car rather than look at themselves

After Seidl left, Mclaren have been in shambles. The car is worst than it's ever been, Lando is getting wasted, now they go and hire another superstar in the making Oscar Piastri and are wasting him away.
What Mclaren needs is a major management and technical overhaul and I think Binotto would be a good leader at Mclaren.
Seidl on the other hand is no ordinary racing mind, there's a reason why he feel Keys would be best fit in technical role and according to me Seidl felt Keys not been given the right tools and resources for Keys to work his magic. Wind Tunnel is one such critical resource for a team to continuously deliver in this current development race throughout the season of F1.
Audi like Seidl is a ruthless competitor with wining the only focus and I don't think Seidl knowing that would bring on some one ordinary onboard.
