@@hunterreeves6525I don't know if they've got another upgrade coming, maybe they've switched focus to 2024 given the aero testing scale has changed for them jumping P7 to P2/P3 in constructor.
Mclaren has another last 25% upgrade schedule for Hungary for its mechanical grip. Something most don't talk about, Mclaren is the only team with Redbull with the push rod suspension since last year. They had very good tire wear in this race, even lando's engineer was always asking Lando how was his tires.
Ferrari strategy backfire AGAIN. I'm basically watching F1 lately just to see how Ferrari can stuff things up and throw it away. If they had competent management they could have been seriously challenging for the championship last year but all the strategy and mechanical fails meant they didn't even get close. Leclerc is a proper talent, if he was in a competent team he'd be killing it. Versappen, Leclerc, and Norris are the 3 best drivers in the field atm, if we ever end up with 2 of them in the one team they will be unstoppable, as long as that team isn't Ferrari.
This tells you a lot of how good the chassis is. Even without a state of the art windtunnel they have been able to develop it quite well. Also keep in mind that only Red Bull and Mclaren are the only cars with a front pull rod rear pushrod suspension configuration (everyone else keep the previous push rod/pull rod or some other variant). since the suspension arms deflect the air below/over the car is not surprise copying the RB style will have additional benefits. One of the issues I have is how much of the improvement was due to the new tyre construction and/or how much this change damage Merc/AM/Ferrari? Hungary will be a big test for them.
Lando ran a lesser downforce setup for the Silverstone weekend, so we probably didn't really even see a time gain from it, or at least not to it's full potential. I expect we'll see how this affects downforce at Hungary.
Impressive how close Piastri was to Norris. That gap between them pretty much equates to the new front wing. Although i think Norris will be a little further ahead in Hungary at a more technical track. Piastri is a huge talent, i firmly believe Mclaren have the best lineup long term on the grid
I don't think people quite realize just how good Piastri is yet. It's his rookie season and he's already competitive with Norris, who's probably the 4th or 5th best driver on the grid right now. Piastri has the potential to be the next Verstappen or Hamilton. He's going to be freakin' scary.
@@e.lake13 But the chrome is for Mercedes and McLaren are not sponsored by Mercedes anymore? Hence the shift from the chrome livery to dark grey and red livery during the 2015 season, even under Ron Dennis.
It's the tires; Pirelli made re-inforced tires for this GP, in addition to the fact that three hardest compounds were used. This allowed McLaren to exploit the upgrades and hide that they were very hard on the tires. In some other tires configuration, they would probably drop 7-8-9 positions back as all those cars more stable on any compound overtake them. Its great to see them back.
Sad that Piastri wasn't able to clinch a podium in Silverstone. But if Mclaren continue like this in progress, he'll get another shot in the near future. Lando could be on his way to get another podium as well if conditions are right.
Saturday showed me that DRS should be disabled during qualifying regardless of conditions, it’s an overtaking tool, and there is functionally no actual overtaking happening in qualy. Obviously not something the fia would just up and do, but with how well q1 and q2 went. I think they definitely should.
😂😂😂 new to F1?? DRS is part of the car. Just like tyre chose and set up, each driver/team has the same options. If you want a better DRS......DESIGN IT!
If you remove Max, this is a genuinely amazing season in terms of whose at the top. At one point it was Aston, then Merc came back for a bit, then now McLaren. At this rate we might even see Williams be the car behind max at Monza.
INCLUDING MAX'S INCREDIBLE DRIVING IN THE RB19, this is an exciting year to see other teams making progess and shine on different tracks. CHECO....DRIVES THE RB19 as well, remember..... where is he???
Honestly, I have zero idea why race control called for a virtual safety car when there was an bbq on the race track! As if you could send marshalls on track to put out the fire and tow the car under a virtual. It ruined a chance for Oscar to be on the podium.
As a dedicated McLaren fan who's with them in good and ill this is incredibly gratifying to see. Now i hope they can keep this progress going with the new wind tunnel due to be finished this year. Great job Zak and co! And great job Norris and Piastri!
+1. Dont get the Zak hate - he's a brash character for sure but his job is getting the resources the team needs, so he's chasing sponsors, and being very successful at it. He's not the team principal - which makes me wonder if Seidl, as nice a guy as he seems, was actually not that good at the job. With Stella and the new people in place next year, and the new wind-tunnel etc paid for by Zak's fundraising and on-line, maybe we can dare to dream
@@OscarTahr the rumor on the grape vine is that Seidl occasionally got bouts of analysis-paralysis, over analyzing a problem to find a solution instead of just starting over when something doesn't work. Stella seems to avoid that
@@trymetal95 Thanks, interesting. Fits with the impression I got of Seidl, quite the ‘engineering geek’ in a nice way. Seemed a hell of a nice bloke but results count. Zak’s happy with attention so guess that makes him a target for criticism.
Right now Norris is the obvious team leader. However, Piastri is surely only going to improve over the coming years. I wonder if Norris will start to feel more threatened by Piastri. Next season will be interesting, particularly if Piastri takes another step in his development.
The simplification of the top of floor geometry suggests they can now rely on the airflow itself rather than having to introduce directionality and vorticity to get air cleanly to the diffuser end - this should make the car more controllable and presumably the front wing changes are also related. If they have a more stable platform for turn-in it would represent massive upgrade even without adding raw pace, but the two combined is a quantum leap
See I'm a die hard Lewis fan but I've always been a huge fan of McLaren ever since I was a kid back in the Schumacher days in the Ferrari & to see McLaren slowly coming back is great same with Williams still a very long way to go tho because we've seen both get close but slip back again but I think all the changes in both teams is amazing & I hope to see McLaren & Williams back at the front where they belong
I hope these are the first real signs of all the teams getting closer together in terms of performance and the decade old idea of there being a few "top teams" that can fight for a win while the rest don't stand a chance slowly goes away and everyone gets their moment in the sun once in a while. That is of course, once they've managed to catch up with Red Bull.
It’s very encouraging just how many teams can be fighting for the podium and for the last few points. It’s just a shame there’s only one that’s winning
Time will tell if these upgrades are track specific, but brilliant to see McLaren making some ground up after mishaps from earlier this year. Even if it does become track sensitive there's a handful of circuits similar to Silverstone where they could get into the podium spots again (spa, Monza and cota come to mind)
I think in Hungary we'll see Aston move back up towards the front, maybe Mercedes too, but I honestly think that McLaren might well be on par with Ferrari from this point on. I'm sure there will be races where we see Alpine further up too, but they overall see to be off the back of the front group where McLaren will be firmly inside that group going forward.
Although i love McLaren coming back, they are very slow in low speed corners. Thankfully the rest of the calendar consists mainly in high speed circuits.
Probably. AMs are very fast on slow corners, which Hungary track is famous for. Lando said this on post race debrief. “But we do have a poor car - and I say poor, I would say pretty terrible - in the slow-speed corners, extremely difficult to drive. I feel we’re getting excited and I accept that, but we're going to go to a couple of tracks coming up where I'm sure people are going to be saying, ‘What have you done now? How has it got so bad all of a sudden?!’
Stick with the chrome. Worth a second a lap ;-) The new wind tunnel is paying off. Piastri looks like a real talent. Hamilton must have got deja vu, he won the title with a chrome McLaren in 2008.
It's funny that every single car that passes Hamilton is suddenly deemed a "rocket ship" but when he wins on three wheels 40 seconds ahead "they were right on me, we barely pulled it off"
Lewis said it was impressive to watch the car in the cool down room....so did Russell. Its was a compliment plus if you cant pass a tire when you're on quicker tyres that car must be very fast. He did compliment them but you just had to spew hate to get likes.
@@MojoMachin3 His point is that Lewis has used that exact comment about many different cars and drivers ever since Mercedes stopped dominating. Rocket ship is sort of his new catch phrase these days anytime someone is slightly faster than his car. The McLaren wasn't a rocket ship in Silverstone. The Red Bull in the hands of Verstappen is. Or the Mercedes in the hands of Lewis in Brazil 2021 was.
@@Enfiee Can you name me the incidents Lewis has said that other than the RedBull? There was no other explanable reason why Lewis and George both on faster compounds could not overtake the McLarens other than the fact that their car was quicker in the race.If you watched the race you'd see that despite DRS and faster tyre compound. Mercedes did not have the straight line speed to catch the McLaren. So, McLaren was a rocketship compared to the Mercedes. It's not a crime for pointing out that fact or using the term rocketship to describe a faster car albeit in one race. Plus, Lewis and George was generally complimentary about McLaren. So, to filter through all the compliments and find negatives to post is just to stir up Lewis hate.
@@MojoMachin3 Haha it's not hate man. We're just poking a bit of fun over the fact that Lewis is overusing the term rocket ship. He's said that the Aston Martin was a rocket ship at the start of the season. Last year he said the same about Leclercs Ferrari. I completely agree with pretty much everything you said. The Mercedes should have been able to overtake the McLaren but the car is simply to slow in a straight line so it sucks at overtaking. Been the same all year, Doesn't make the McLaren a "rocket ship"... As I said, just poking fun at Lewis not being used to being in a slower car and having to fight so hard overtaking so many different types of cars. Aston, Ferrari and Mclaren aren't rocket ships, they're close competitors to the Mercedes.
@@cayden2744 no he wouldn't have and you know it and even so DRS *is a thing* and it doesn't even benefit the car in first the hard tire was the better option after a few laps as well once it got up to temperature this was a fraction of the race as well; prior to the safety car the red bull comfortably pulled ahead by 9 seconds on the same tire and would've probably finished the race 15+ seconds ahead what a ridiculous argument
@@JuliusBriggs That's false. Max wouldn't even overtake Norris so early if it wasn't for the DRS, RB19 has ridiculous DRS efficiency aswell so that adds up. "Would have finished with 15s gap" but finished with less than 4s, so what?
Hilarious! Five minutes ago, everyone was talking about how "Aston Martin is the new king of the hill (After Red Bull of course), now it's McLaren. Sure, McLaren made great strides forward and that is evident not so much by Norris's ending at #2 on the podium, but more so by a rookie Oscar Piastri almost making it to # 3. However, this year shows that the competitiveness of the field keep it pretty much open. Yesterday it was Aston Martin, today it's McLaren, and who know who it's going to be next time...
Gotta admit that MaClaren have taken great steps in development a lot quicker than any other team where as Ferrari have gone backwards in development and is looking more like a paper tiger.
Theyve already said the low speed corners are where theyre very much lacking, the high speed corners are where they gain time and thats what silverstone has a lot of
Whatever the name is of the bloke that designed the scallop/gutter/groove on the Ferrari for last year definitely deserves some praise for thinking about it before everyone else
😂😂 Max had an easy overtake cos he was faster, he opened the gap with 0.2, 0.3, 0.5sec each lap.... with DRS it was more clean overtake. And Lando couldnt stay in DRS and use it to overtake Max. That says it all.
Doesn’t this just highlight how poor alpine/Renault have been for years can’t remember a time when weve seen actual progress from them even tho theyve spent hundreds of millions over the years
Mclaren having a car like this will really make them a good opponent for the other teams especially in the constructor's championship. Norris and Piastri are very equal in performance especially compared to the other teams they fight with at least in terms of scoring or placement. But especially thinking of Alpine as closest rival at the moment. In comparison to Alpine Mclaren have better consistency in its drivers, imo.
How they’ve made this big a leap in the era of the cost cap, CFD testing limits, and wind tunnel limits, without the 2026 wind tunnel upgrades, I have no idea.
You know, first of all engineers have to have good ideas. All the tools come after that. They are important, no question, but there still has to sit the right person in front of the screen
I'm cautiously optimistic about these upgrades. This could just be a flash in the pan. But it feels different. Between Aston Martins early performance, Williams exceeding expectations, and now McLarens seemingly real speed... What an exciting season even with red bull so dominant. Bad season for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and alpha tauri fans.
Is Red Bull so dominate or is it just Verstappen. Perez has definitely struggled to get through the pack lately which is showing the other teams are really improving. Verstappen right now is just in a league of his own. He's been so good at putting out enough speed to pull away from the pack but not abuse the tires.
All aboard the McLaren hype train 🧡🚆 I genuinely thought Mika Hakkinen had been at the G&T a bit too heavily of late but on this basis that orange wheelbarrow might make a decent car after all!!
They said they had more downforce cause they put more wing on to help them go through low and mid speed corners, lando said his ability to get out of turn 6 Luffield faster than Hamilton, was the only reason he stayed ahead. If they can repeat the feat in Hungary then we’ll know they’re onto something. Piastri stayed up with Norris despite not having the new front wing.
The hardest compound of pirelli for this weekend was tricky to use for most of the grid but when we saw Hamilton on the soft unable to overtake Norris on the hards, it made me question the upgrade that the Mclaren took in a good way
I spoke to my contact in the racing team and they said the performance upgrade was a result of a lot of work from the team. Its basically a completely different car. You point out a lot in the video and that is probably what was meant. So I am not sure if McLaren were just slightly lucky or their tweaks were a result of intense design wizardry, what ever it was im so happy to be a McLaren fan. I won't lie, this season has been tough to watch up until now. My excitement is back, well done mclaren
Tbh they did the right thing with the hard tyre. They started dominating at a nice speed and pace. When everybody took the pit stop from the when the emergency car came out they all had new tires, they had to warm them up while Norris already had his tires not only warmed up but worn to a soft level tyre. As long as he didn’t crashed or the car didn’t gave up he literally did everything right to win even tho he got 2nd place. I’m still happy with his results.
I think bar Max in the RB, all of these "best of the rest" team candidates are strong in some track or other, just like how Aston and merc were absolutely flying in Canada but Ferrari and Mclaren were the stronger team last weekend and Mclaren and Merc were very fast this time around.
Man I hope they're back and this wasn't a fluke. I had SOO much excitement when Danny Ric first joined the team, and we all know how that went. The beginning of this year was even more of a shocking disappointment. I hope they've got it figured out and that more teams continually get better and closer to the front. Ya know, like the regulations are supposed to work. As amazing a driver as Max is, it gets a bit stale when he just runs away with the win every race. Still, Silverstone was pretty exciting watching the battles behind.

@@hunterreeves6525I don't know if they've got another upgrade coming, maybe they've switched focus to 2024 given the aero testing scale has changed for them jumping P7 to P2/P3 in constructor.
So Perez got confident again because he passed back markers and midfield cars and that's using the advantage of the red bull car well?
Petition to keep chrome and permanently ditch the E-ink screens
I DESPERATELY want them to keep the chrome. It feels like it belongs on the car and it looks so rad.
@@e.lake13 But the chrome is for Mercedes and McLaren are not sponsored by Mercedes anymore? Hence the shift from the chrome livery to dark grey and red livery during the 2015 season, even under Ron Dennis.
@@TassieLorenzo don't care. Keep the chrome lol
I don't think that the hardest three compounds were used in British GP. It was C1,C2 and C3. The hardest compound in 2023 season C0 was not used.
Exactly!!!
@@catchnkill C0 isnt used yet. C1 always was the hardest before C0 was new introduced this season. So the C1 is for us 'the hardest' compound so far
Incredible that a rookie is so close to one of the best on the grid with fewer upgrades
At this rate we might even see Williams be the car behind max at Monza.
and ferrari will forever be "😒😒"
I believe the Aston is still the second best car at most tracks
INCLUDING MAX'S INCREDIBLE DRIVING IN THE RB19, this is an exciting year to see other teams making progess and shine on different tracks. CHECO....DRIVES THE RB19 as well, remember..... where is he???
Great to see customer teams performing so well
Honestly, I have zero idea why race control called for a virtual safety car when there was an bbq on the race track! As if you could send marshalls on track to put out the fire and tow the car under a virtual. It ruined a chance for Oscar to be on the podium.
Maybe they did it to help the Brittish drivers.
Who had the Black and White flag🤔 you will see Oscar go ahead this year. Still not in equal cars.. 11th F1 race after 1 year out remember..
People laughed at Mika Hakkinen for saying this exact thing a few weeks back.
Mika Hakkenin predicted this type of performance from McClaren a couple weeks back!
Piastri is really showing up. Very impressive as I think Lando is a super talent.
8:51 that graph is extra funky with Orange Haas, blue Mclaren and White Williams lol
Really hope they can keep their progress up. More competition at the front is always appreciated.
It's all thanks to this incredible chrome livery that we all miss !
Bring it back for all races please !
I think the McLaren performance window has increased but Mercedes and Aston are probably still ahead in the majority of tracks still to come
That chrome livery is brilliant, with Google chrome as a major sponsor its a no brainer surely?
Max is a beast now more than ever. But if he was taken out of this years equation we’d have 2012 mkII on our hands
What a bs comment
@@gealingeman8643 How so? Max is as close to unbeatable as anyone has ever been in F1. And the points gap between P2 and P4 is only 35 points.
It’s very encouraging just how many teams can be fighting for the podium and for the last few points. It’s just a shame there’s only one that’s winning
Way obvious that the heavy but slippery chrome paint scheme and awesome new race suits changed the MCL60 handling and aero.
Time will tell if these upgrades are track specific, but brilliant to see McLaren making some ground up after mishaps from earlier this year.
Even if it does become track sensitive there's a handful of circuits similar to Silverstone where they could get into the podium spots again (spa, Monza and cota come to mind)
Same with Williams and there pace, spa monza and las Vegas will be good tracks for them both
Lando already said its track specific HIGH SPEED.... and said on other tracks they will struggle
Love the technical speak in these vids - makes me sound smart with my f1 friends 😂
8:50 colours wrong btw
Fascinating video, many thanks for bring this quality video to the masses
I'd love to see Norris in a car equivalent to the RB19. Watching Norris and Verstappen fight it out in equal cars would be so much fun to watch!
Lewis looking to that silver Mclaren:
Miss you my old friend.
oi then he really is funny-farm material.
ofcourse. Mclaren now is ten times more fresh, exiting and exotic than the team he is at. :P
I just dont care about random people on the internet. Bye!
ah yes that notorious mclaren rocketship which gets easily outpaced by the red bull car by multiple seconds within 10 laps
Outpaced with 1s slower tyres yk...
If DRS wasn't a thing, Norris would have great winning chances here
@@cayden2744 no he wouldn't have and you know it and even so DRS *is a thing* and it doesn't even benefit the car in first
the hard tire was the better option after a few laps as well once it got up to temperature
this was a fraction of the race as well; prior to the safety car the red bull comfortably pulled ahead by 9 seconds on the same tire and would've probably finished the race 15+ seconds ahead
what a ridiculous argument
@@JuliusBriggs
That's false.
Max wouldn't even overtake Norris so early if it wasn't for the DRS, RB19 has ridiculous DRS efficiency aswell so that adds up.
"Would have finished with 15s gap" but finished with less than 4s, so what?
You missed out the biggest and best upgrade the chrome paint 😊
I’ll admit I’d lost faith in them - great to see them build on the Austria race and looking legit at the front!
Gotta admit that MaClaren have taken great steps in development a lot quicker than any other team where as Ferrari have gone backwards in development and is looking more like a paper tiger.
This new paint job is quick!
Theyve already said the low speed corners are where theyre very much lacking, the high speed corners are where they gain time and thats what silverstone has a lot of
Correct. But if he summarizes a video like that - he can't be repetitive and stretch it out to 10 minutes for that UA-cam cash.
I’m a new mclaren fan and I started to become a fan during Bahrain. I’m so happy how far we’ve come this season.
Whatever the name is of the bloke that designed the scallop/gutter/groove on the Ferrari for last year definitely deserves some praise for thinking about it before everyone else
I am going to say...I have my doubts if Verstappen would have been able to overtake Norris if it wasn't for the DRS.
😂😂 Max had an easy overtake cos he was faster, he opened the gap with 0.2, 0.3, 0.5sec each lap.... with DRS it was more clean overtake. And Lando couldnt stay in DRS and use it to overtake Max. That says it all.
For Lewis everyone ahead of him drives a rocketship.. but for him it's always the driver 😂😂
Doesn’t this just highlight how poor alpine/Renault have been for years can’t remember a time when weve seen actual progress from them even tho theyve spent hundreds of millions over the years
From Lewis perspective, everything on the grid pretty much looks like a rocket ship!
It was clearly the new painting, guys.
ONE RACE! Let’s enjoy the podium but please it’s literally one race guys
Who is the aero fella getting the orange mclaren team up the front ?
I'm cautiously optimistic about these upgrades. This could just be a flash in the pan. But it feels different. Between Aston Martins early performance, Williams exceeding expectations, and now McLarens seemingly real speed... What an exciting season even with red bull so dominant. Bad season for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and alpha tauri fans.
As a tifoso i tell you, every season is pain if you support Ferrari.

Is Red Bull so dominate or is it just Verstappen. Perez has definitely struggled to get through the pack lately which is showing the other teams are really improving. Verstappen right now is just in a league of his own. He's been so good at putting out enough speed to pull away from the pack but not abuse the tires.
Congratulations to Lando and Oscar on an amazing performance in this Sunday's Grand Prix.

next year is shaping up to be a hype year for f1 tho. hopefully something along the lines of 2012.
I hope they also keep the livery for the rest of the year, the chrome just adds a nice touch to the car.

All aboard the McLaren hype train 🧡🚆 I genuinely thought Mika Hakkinen had been at the G&T a bit too heavily of late but on this basis that orange wheelbarrow might make a decent car after all!!
drowe two holes make it split at fronter, might be controlling the white noise keeps lower for drivers
I think we all know the performance upgrade is Norris' facial hair, easily worth a couple of tenths now and more when it reaches full Mansell levels
The hardest compound of pirelli for this weekend was tricky to use for most of the grid but when we saw Hamilton on the soft unable to overtake Norris on the hards, it made me question the upgrade that the Mclaren took in a good way
Surprised they fit these upgrades in the budget cap
As a tifosi fan,iam very happy with the comeback of McLaren 🎉, Ferrari and McLaren are just the formula 1
Glad to have a Ferrari fan like you 👌
Wow, they pretty much changed the whole car, that's insane. I think we haven't seen an in-season upgrade of that size in ages
I believe the Haas, Williams and McLaren logos are switched on the graphic at 8:52
It seems that they fixed the straight line speed too.
Williams as well. Can we get a video for them? Poor Alpine and Alpha
It was track specific HIGH SPEED performance as Lando himself said. Next races wont suit them as well.
Huh, it turned out Newey made another McLaren after all !
