Chris wrote this song for my buddy Zavier and his family when his little sister Ainslee passed away from brain cancer. then his dad passed away from brain cancer and on March 28 of this year Zavier passed away to brain cancer. I miss my buddy so much. and hearing chris passed away is heartbreaking because he did so much for their family. rest easy chris, live it up with rory, ainslee and zavier in heaven.

I am sitting here reading the comments.....I just want to say to the people who have lost their loved ones. I am so sorry that you have had to go through the loss of someone who meant so much to you. It hurts so badly, I have lost my sister and my father. I know that 1 thing that helps me, is realizing how lucky I was to have had them in my life. Even if it feels like it was too short, I am still thankful that I had a sister who was loving, kind, smart and funny. And a father who was supportive, proud, patient and most of all unafraid to love his kids. I hope maybe that one thing can help some of you with what you are going through. I just learned of the story behind this song, now a few days after his death, and it is very rare that you hear of a performer who took, or even takes, the time to help fulfill a patient's wish. Even more so that it was in the form of an awesome celebrity vocalist lending their voice for a very personal song, with the fan's own lyrics. I lost a nephew almost three years ago now. The grief was unbearable that half of my soul felt like it also was buried into the grave. The light of dreams and hope were dimmed. I was not looking forward to life anymore. All I ever wanted is to see him again. I just make sure that I take care of those whom he had left behind. I've been grieving alone in my room for the past years. No one to show how my heart bleeds. I needed to be strong for those who are weaker than I am. The music of Chris Cornell has moved my soul with depth that not thousands of words can fill. I have never seen him in person but his death has impacted me so much. Just like what the lyrics of this beautiful song is, I also wanted to believe that my baby nephew needs to fly but will always be with us. But I simply can't. The fact that he is gone is haunting. The hole that was left in my heart when he went away is getting deeper and deeper...

Just talking with someone who really hears what is weighing on your heart can make it feel lighter and not quite as hopeless. It isn’t easy to reach out and take that risk but it very well could be much more difficult not to. This thread scares me. I can't imagine surviving the death of one of my children...loosing a parent I can cope with but my kids I don't think I'd be able to bare the burden. My heart goes out to all of you who lost little ones. I'll be thinking of you and praying.
Anyone else here in 2019? I always loved Chris's vocals in this performance. The words are prophetic and he sings them in a way that wrings out every ounce of emotion. I miss him so much. Till we meet in Heaven, Chris. I know you'll be there.

First time I ever heard Chris' voice was in 1991 or 1992. Temple of the dog- Hunger strike. I'll never forget those fun days of being young, listening to this new sound from Seattle. These guys definitely put their time in. I'd give anything to be in Chris' hotel room that night in Detroit, and maybe offer a solution. I'll never be content that you took your own life. There has to be more that we don't know. I know you'd never leave your daughter, Toni. So tragic, such a huge loss to us as a music generation. RIP Chris Cornell, you were with me a lot of nights and you always will be!

The story , or this song, weren't very well known, and I believe it should have been. It also seems Chris Cornell was very underrated as a songwriter, and as a singer. I just learned of the story behind this song, now a few days after his death, and it is very rare that you hear of a performer who took, or even takes, the time to help fulfill a patient's wish. Even more so that it was in the form of an awesome celebrity vocalist lending their voice for a very personal song, with the fan's own lyrics. What Chris did was a huge act of kindness and it was wonderful to hear this story/song after Chris' passing. It really shows what kind of person he was. R.I.P Chris

My sister and her husband lost their 3 month old son tragically and this song was played during his service. The words fit them so perfectly especially because we called his older brother (1 years old) Buba. This song will be played daily for him. Thank you for making such a beautiful song.

I lost a nephew almost three years ago now. The grief was unbearable that half of my soul felt like it also was buried into the grave. The light of dreams and hope were dimmed. I was not looking forward to life anymore. All I ever wanted is to see him again. I just make sure that I take care of those whom he had left behind.
I've been grieving alone in my room for the past years. No one to show how my heart bleeds. I needed to be strong for those who are weaker than I am.
The music of Chris Cornell has moved my soul with depth that not thousands of words can fill. I have never seen him in person but his death has impacted me so much.
Just like what the lyrics of this beautiful song is, I also wanted to believe that my baby nephew needs to fly but will always be with us. But I simply can't. The fact that he is gone is haunting.

Just talking with someone who really hears what is weighing on your heart can make it feel lighter and not quite as hopeless. It isn’t easy to reach out and take that risk but it very well could be much more difficult not to. Just waiting to die is exhausting and probably more torturous than learning how to live with the pain. I hope you can find the comfort you need and certainly deserve. Hugs

I'm concerned that my listener would absorb the pain when I choose to relieve myself from it through sharing. And I also didn't expect to have it voiced out properly to random people in social network like here and that my comment will get noticed, so thank you once again. It's quite a relief to be honest.
