- This is my personal video for this amazing song.
The lyrics are by Rory Dela Rosa, a fan of Chris, who lost his six years old daughter from brain cancer on April 6th, 2008 and who passed away himself from the same disease on December 11th, 2009.
The lyrics are intended as spoken by the little Ainslee, Rory's daughter, while she tries to help her mommy Connie, her little brother Zavier and her daddy Rory to face her death.
In loving memory of the little Ainslee and Rory.
This is what Chris said about this song and his friend Rory, while he was still fighting against his cancer....
"Thought I should say something about my friend Rory and his amazing poem.
I have had a friendship with him by telephone and email for a while now. I was made aware of his story and that he wanted to talk to me because my music had been important to him and his family through what I think of as an unimaginably hard time. After speaking to him I knew we would stay in touch. I think he is an extremely brave man and has been nothing but a gentleman in every conversation we have had, never once complaining even when I know he may be having a bad day. To the contrary, he has sent me messages that have lifted my spirit at times when I was down and without knowing, reminded me how trivial my few troubles really are.
What he did to lift my spirits the most was to send me his poem. What I read gave me such a sense of relief that Rory had an insight. A strength and hope that was inspiring beyond measure.
It was a pleasure to put it to music and an honor that he ask if I would ever consider it.
It was with his permission that I posted it for people to listen to.

My uncle wrote this for my cousin who had brain cancer and she passed and then he got sick and passed I miss them and love this song
So sorry for your and your family's losses. I saw an interview with Chris Cornell where he discussed this song and how he got to know your cousin, and his admiration for him. He was clearly moved by the beautiful words written by your cousin, becoming emotional as he spoke about him. God bless.

Chris wrote this song for my buddy Zavier and his family when his little sister Ainslee passed away from brain cancer. then his dad passed away from brain cancer and on March 28 of this year Zavier passed away to brain cancer. I miss my buddy so much. and hearing chris passed away is heartbreaking because he did so much for their family. rest easy chris, live it up with rory, ainslee and zavier in heaven.

I am sitting here reading the comments.....I just want to say to the people who have lost their loved ones. I am so sorry that you have had to go through the loss of someone who meant so much to you. It hurts so badly, I have lost my sister and my father. I know that 1 thing that helps me, is realizing how lucky I was to have had them in my life. Even if it feels like it was too short, I am still thankful that I had a sister who was loving, kind, smart and funny. And a father who was supportive, proud, patient and most of all unafraid to love his kids. I hope maybe that one thing can help some of you with what you are going through. I know I will always cherish the times I spent out on a little lake in Texas, playing music with my brothers and my sister singing along with my Dad sitting in his chair drinking a glass of wine with a huge smile on his face.

Omg.... First time I heard this.. Tears tears tears,.. This song reminds me of My son Gabriel whom was a month away from being thirteen years old, he passed away from brain cancer. My son was strong and knew it wasnt goodbye, he knew he was going home to the Lord and he will see me again.. But it is hard for me because I want him here with me. it just tears me apart that he is not here with me.

I found this song after my 5 and 1/2 month old son passed in 2011. We played it at his funeral along with some other songs. it was really hard to find music about the death of a child. This song really touches me and I still can't listen to it without balling my eyes out.
