Franconian Way of St. James - Stage 6 Kalchreuth - Nuremberg
April 27, 2019: On my last day on the Franconian Camino, I get up at 6 a.m. After stocking up on provisions in a bakery, I set off at 8 a.m. a little wistfully.
I leave Kalchreuth in the direction of Nuremberg. The path leads me through a beech forest past burial mounds from Celtic times before I come to the Sebalder Reichswald. (Wiki de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebalde...)
In Buchenbühl I come across a sign with interesting information about the Way of St. James. There is a pilgrim stamp in the Ascension Church.
As I walk past Nuremberg airport, I feel reminded of arriving in Santiago (as I have read from others :-) )
Around 1pm I have lunch at a seafood restaurant with scallop shells walled in the entrance.
Then I continue to the old town to the Nuremberg Castle. In the Sebalduskirche (Wiki de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Seb...) ) I look at works of art from the Middle Ages.
I pass Nuremberg's main market where the Christ Child opens the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt before Christmas.
At my last destination on this stage, Jakobsplatz, I first visit the Elisabeth Church.
In front of the church I meet Pope Francis (!), who gives me a friendly wave.
I close this day of pilgrimage in the Church of St. James, which, in addition to figures of the apostle, offers information about the Way of St. James in Germany and Europe.
After getting the last stamp of the Camino Francones for the time being, I come across a cobblestone with a scallop in front of the gate. This will later become the logo of my UA-cam channel.
With a bit of melancholy, I walk to Nuremberg Central Station, where I board the ICE train to Munich at around 4 p.m.
This is the end of my Franconian Way of St. James 2019 after six days.
Distance: 17.3 km (by walking to Nuremberg Central Station and at home in Munich I come to about 24 km on this day)
