The music is hauntingly dramatic and beautiful depicting a monumentally frightening yet extremely fascinating man-made scientific, industrial event especially the 3rd shot "George" right to the end when the B-17 is instructed to "turn away". Absolutely fascinating video !
Exanples of Sound blackout (still classified information?) points; 53:20 to 54:45 ....57:35, And, 1: 04 :30. I am so thankful for Nuclear Vault for salvaging and presenting these incredibly historic scientific Department of Defense films from the early days of nuclear development. Perhaps if I had viewed these films in science classes in high school, I would have become much more interested in all the sciences and mathematics. I surmise the audiences for these films were top military brass, scientists, and high ranking public officials, as it seems they were classified until the late 1990s. Unfortunately, I really never became at all interested in the sciences until I went to Nursing school twenty five years ago as a second career. I am so much more interested in all sciences, especially the physical sciences, especially these nuclear themed films. I am curious to the sound blackouts at the various points, at time stamps listed above and wonder what was documented at those points that is still classified. I also would like to know the findings of the animal testing. I know this would seem to some as gross, and inappropriate to some observers, but I am really curious from a scientific point of view, if for instances, the nuclear exposed carcasses of the pigs were fed to other animals, as it would seem to be an important thing to know about humans or other animals consuming radiated exposed meat as survival sustenance. One amusing and ironic shot is the "Mickey Mouse" holding a cartoon lit bomb flag on a ship. Final thought: so thankful for Nuclear Vault and Periscope for making these films available to the public and help me satisfy my unique interests and science, and especially the Atomic era in United States history.
All of these tests were primarily designed to increase yields and more importantly find out how long would our forces be able to fight before the radiation sickness killed them. I was schooled by the U.S. Army about tactical weapons in the 1980's. After the training I wasn't really interested in my military career any longer. Ironic that I can see Cheyanne Mountain and NORAD from my yard. What a great first strike target.
This test in particular was to study the fusion reaction of Deuterium-Tritium and the next test was Ivy Mike where they would test the Teller Ulam design
Awwww that’s cute. The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines all love each other… Serious question…when did the last American pronounce ‘Los Angeles’ with a hard G?
Nonetheless, many of the officers and scientists are working with dangerous materials and performing dangerous jobs. Who flies the the planes filming and carrying experimental instruments? Many are officers. You're dead Nixon. Go back to sleep.
Instead of sacrificing dogs and pigs out there, they should have used murderers, mobsters, child molesters, and crooked politicians. Term then into crispy critters instead of man's best friend.
@@devilisahomo this whole thing is insane, did you catch a part where they forgot to "sanitize" and were exposing people to the radiation Fallout or the actual flash of the fireball? Because both of these are definite no-nos, yet they did allow some troops to stay out just to see what would happen. Also it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you compress uranium the same way you compress plutonium you will get a "fission-kick" detonation out of it, the yield depending on how efficient your reflectors are and how tight your containment vessel is xx
The scene where they all put their hats on the table is so ridiculous it almost makes you feel like busting out laughing except for the fact that these people are totally insane xx
I thank these men and women of science, and the United States military services for protecting our country, and these men sacrificed their lives to protect our Country, and some may argue human civilization. And don't criticize these military and scientists, because many other countries were engaged with their blood and treasure to protect your freedom. Remember, they were a large part to protect us from the insane tyrants Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, and now it seems, the truly insane, Vladimir Putin.
Yup... the thing about insane people is they think they are normal, and that everyone else is insane. These are individuals that were probably surprized to find out Kubricks Dr. Strangelove was actually a dark comedy. Cause to them, everything in that film is normal behavior. Just like everyone placing their hats down in lockstep, taking a seat in lockstep, and ending the world in lockstep because someone "above" them, told them to. Lets face it, donating your life to the military industrial complex is by definition insane. Why join a mass murdering suicidal death cult, that keeps the entire world 5 minutes from total annihilation? Or that poisons every living thing on the planet with anthropogenic radioactive elements, just to find out what radioactive elements do to every living thing on the planet. This is why we all now have a bit of strontium 90 in our bones and teeth, among other radioactive isotopes. And everyone fears nuclear war, yet as many atmospheric nuclear test they did, they already had one. And thats not to mention Chernobyl, 3 mile island, Windscale/Sellafield, Mayak, Polygon, or the worst nuclear accident in the United States which was Santa Suzana field lab in Simi Valley next door to Hollywood and L.A. Their test reactor back in 1959 burned for almost 2 weeks spewing radiation into the atmosphere, before they were able to put it out... but you never heard a thing, it was "sanatized".

Yes. I suppose some scenes was also cutted off.
I have said the same.
I am very much interested in these fields now but at school I never felt that way about it.

Is the three star the same "Pete" Quesda who was the genius of air-ground operations in the ETO during WWII?
I think so.
Yep.
this is amazing.!
I heard the voices of Reed Hadley and Ray Walston, I believe

Moscow Marjorie warned she would end this cruelty against dogs in the USA, ending the senseless preference for human over animal life.
What about Plan R?
General Buck Turgidson can tell you about that.
It was filed away for the inevitable bitter end...

Every Hispano does...
If we only knew what scientism was capable of with a slide rule in their hands...
well that's an interesting way to fry bacon.
Pre H-bomb. Cool.
All that hard work , just to vaporize it...
The guys counting down are officers; the guys in the radioactive sand are enlisted.
Would you rather that it was the other way around? No one ever said that the military was egalitarian institution.
What a surprise LOL

Why I never joined the military. Once in, your ass belongs to them to do whatever they want with you.

A Project is a singular test within the larger scope of an Operation

Animal testing is not unusual. Better than testing makeup on animals.
They didn’t blow the dogs up. Just gave them large doses of radiation.
