Recently bought a 2022 full awning that is air. It does have a couple of normal poles that are on the very front of it to extend canopy over door opening. Haven’t tired it yet as have a brand new buccaneer on order but it’s now pushed back till July August.
Thanks for this really helpful video, Graham, lots of useful tips which we could have done with before buying our awning ... sorry, awnings! Glad you mentioned the potential problem with window locations. We wanted a medium air awning but found that the gap between the lounge window and bedroom window would have meant the awning would have been on the small size, so we ended up getting one a bit larger than we wanted so it could go on the other side of the rear bedroom window. Then we realised that was impractical for most short trips away so we settled on a very small poled porch awning (200 wide) which is an absolute doddle to put up and gives us enough space for two chairs and the dog. We've also purchased an old-fashioned lantern (rechargeable batteries/solar-powered/dimmable) so will test that out soon to see if it creates a lovely ambiance or turns our awning into the campsite lighthouse. Nice to bump into you at the NEC recently :-)
Since we were fortunate enough to afford our first brand new caravan in 2005 I have tried to avoid having a full awning, though we did have a Bradcot one for a while. We now have a 260cm wide Sunncamp Ultima porch which I paid £50 for from Ebay but rarely use it. Our 'go to' is a Sunncamp Freedom Porch which is 1.8m wide and only about a metre deep, only locating into the awning channel and skirt channel then tensioner up, 5 minute fit tops, just large enough to cover the door area and keep it dry or the sun off and you can have the door open and keep dry. Isabella did exactly the same thing with the same weight material and excellent stitching much later but no better made ( I checked it out at the NEC show much to the chagrin of the salesman) at over three times the price.

Another useful vlog. With many new people to caravanning simple explanations really help. Like you we went for a large porch awning to start with, but wanting a few 2-3 nights away found that getting a 'divorce' for such a short break wasnt worth it. We've now got an air canopy. Not yet had chance to try it though. Quality vlogging as always. 👍

BTW I’m always bending pegs, even the right ones. A tip I was given is to pour a bit of water in the hard standing where your going to bang the peg in 🤷♂️Good luck with the channel. Don’t give up it takes a while to get any traction
I think at the start you weren’t sure if you could buy a full air awning, well you can. One of those impulse buys at the NEC about 2019. Found it too heavy to carry on put up. Only used it twice sold it on. Have had poled and air awnings but now we have a Kampa 400 sun canopy which we now prefer. In fact will be selling this on because we have just bought the new 500 which came out last year I think and will be trying it out in a couple of weeks. We usually put up one of the extra sides you can buy so we sort of have the best of both worlds with it being open but sheltered at one end.
i was searching for canopies for an upcoming whist drive and potluck community tombola and thrift sale/swapshop event, however i am yearning for an awning. great vid as always, i am looking at vw caddy maxi van ex motability as solo camper so you might shadow ban me but i will still watch ingonito as you know your stuff !!!
Graham, not everyone has a caravan that is long enough to accept a 4 metre awning. So smaller ones may also constitute a full awning. However as you say its important to measure the awning rail (A measurement) and window positions before purchase to ensure you get the correct one. Nick T.

You forgot to mention the nickname for awnings (especially full awnings) - Divorce in a bag! :) The number of arguments and swearing I've overheard whilst couples are trying to erect their awning is incredible! Also, it's worth reminding folk that if you buy a full awning it's only likely to fit your caravan model unless your next caravan is exactly the same. Better to buy a porch awning which is transferable whatever you get next.
Hope you didn’t get too wet getting back to the house! 😂 monsoon! Good job you didn’t have the awning up then. we have a full that we only use on week+ trips. Otherwise we are normally out and about in the day so don’t bother but as we can only do Friday night to Sunday morning as the kids have school our weekend trips are short. If we were able to get there early Friday and leave Monday we’d definitely have a porch to give us some more space.
Forgot to say I put our full up on my own. I use an awning pulley and never had any issues getting it in the rail. Poles are a pain as the small dent in the side of our van proves.
Thanks for watching. In theory, the longest weekend we could do is Saturday morning until Monday morning. But in real life, getting back for 08:00am Monday is tricky. We'd have to stay so close to home, we might as well just stay in the caravan on the drive :-)

We have vango kalari 111 air awning Must say on you tube videos makes putting up awning so easy no way is this true in reality People who do these videos must live putting up awnings As novice more like carry on movies 4hrs later I think looking good until heavens opened and water gathered in centre Only used twice since purchased Now we use a canopy much easier to put up Going to be using vango kalari air awning this summer as daughter husband and granddaughter coming on holiday so we will not only have awning to up but both annex bedrooms one on each side of awning May take much longer than 4hrs this time Probably need to video it as would make a good laughter time when need chearing up Call it carry on awning time

I'm not interested in changing, if this means that in life I'm a failure, so be it. Actually, that isn't true, someone once commented that background music on my vlogs made it hard for them to hear me as they were partially deaf. Now that is helpful, I stopped using background music when I was speaking. Regarding my rambling, a few people have said it reminded them of Ronnie Corbett when he said in his chair and told stories. To me, that's a big compliment. I'd rather stay true to myself than change in the hunt for more views and subs.

I've had a Kampa Frontier Air Pro air awning and it is 8 metres long, blooming massive thing.

Hi, we use Avtex tourer two sat nav. It’s flipping expensive but it allows you to put your caravan details in and has caravan club sites preloaded.
Dometic residence air awning is a full awning and stronger than a pole awning
