Thank you for watching Gary and I am sure you will love caravanning. There are so many great places to stay and visit and you will meet some great people 😊 Karina
Started with a steel pole full awning, best awning I ever had, but because of health, had to switch to an air awning, alot easier to put up, but the air beams took up a lot of room inside, so went to a porch awning with fibreglass poles, think we have found our awning, but this journey cost us a lot of money. Wish we had video's like this back then👍
Thanks Guys and yes, you do seem to have to spend a lot of money before you get it right. Not long until you are back out and enjoying it again 😊 Karina and Jules
Great information Karina and Jules about the Awnings. I quite like the Isabella range however, we are very happy with our Kampa Awning. It is so simple to put up and very sturdy! Best wishes Sue Brian and The Westies👍🐶🐾🐾🐾😀
We purchased a vango montelena 400 after seeing your video on it, nice awning but like you say, it is that big that we don’t really put it up unless we are away for a week, so I also got a Kampa Revo 270 off eBay last year, with privacy room etc, really good as you can travel with it in the awning channel, get to site and have the canopy out and tied down within about 1 minute, then add the sides and front and carpet if needed
Best of both worlds there Paul, if you are set up for a week or more you don’t mind spending time putting up a larger awning. For a weekend a small porch is ideal. You will be back out using them again soon 😊 I loved the Montelena in summer..it was so light and bright.great choice 😊👍 Karina
I’m looking at changing my Isabella awning. We’ve only had it 21 years but is looking tired now 😀. I’m torn ( excuse pun ) between an air or poled. Time to put up looks the same but I’m concerned about stability. Although I have seen an air awning taking a right hammering when I’ve had to take mine down. Great video and gives a good insight into various awnings.
Thanks Bodgit, 21years..wow you’ve had your monies worth 👍 A good quality air awning will withstand serious weather. We tested ours out in a horrendous storm, yes it flexed but no damage and took it well. Enjoy hunting for a new awning 😊 Karina
Hi Both, Just watched your vlog on caravan awnings I would just like to say another Excellent tutorial & camera shoot 👍 you gave really excellent tips & advice thank u so much my self Personally I really did appreciate all your help ……… Please can u tell me when u both had a caravan Which Type of awning did u Prefer a Porch or full awning Specially as u have got an Absolutely Beautiful German Shepherd your help would be very much appreciated thanks. All the best to u both Lin 👍❤️🐕
Morning Linda, thank you, we were very impressed with the Vango air awnings and found them well made and very good quality. Isabella are very good too if you have the extra budget for one. We always had a porch awning. The longest porch we had was 4.2 metres, I believe, and the smallest was a 2.4 metre. We found a 3.9 m was a good size for what we needed as a couple and a large dog. Thank you for watching, Karina and Jules
Great information Karina! We have a Ventura 350 Cito which has been great but very heavy. We also have a durable little Vango which we use if just away for the weekend. 😀
Well presented guys and very interesting . We have to make some decisions on this going forward so it was very timely for us. I wonder do any come with a guarantee than an energetic puppy won’t escape . 😂🐶🐶😂😂🤣
Quick question Karina, as your videos keep coming onto my feed, and I can't help clicking play! 😆 ... When you say an awning increases outdoor space... I'm absolutely baffled. To me, most eliminates outdoor space completely. If you have a plastic floor, plastic walls, and a plastic roof, I can't comprehend the 'outdoor' bit. Each to their own of course, but I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want one. Lots of complaining on Facebook about putting them up, the expense, and things like getting in the way of habitation doors, absorbing cooking smells etc... but not a lot of folks singing their praises. Have you been using one with the Coral ? I saw you set up at the seaside place, and it looked perfect to me...rolled out awning, blanket and chairs. Job done! 😁 Perhaps some that are more like an open gazebo make sense, as they're more like just a rain shelter...
Awnings are popular with caravans as they do provide more outdoor space due to the British weather. Whilst we do get some good weather it really can be hit and miss. An awning enables you to have more space in rain and bad weather instead of just the caravan space. If the weather is good you can zip the windows and doors out on many awnings and they then become more of a sun canopy. With our Motorhome we have a wind out canopy that we use. You can get awnings for Motorhomes too though. Driveaway awnings are popular as they are freestanding and you can still take the motorhome out for the day. Awnings are very popular but the bigger then are the harder they usually are to put up. People put their table and chairs in them, keep shoes and wet coats in them and things like that. I hope that gives you a bit of an idea about the use of awnings in the UK. 😊 Having toured in Europe we just used a sun canopy as an awning would have been far too hot in the plus 30 degrees temperatures for us. Not everyone uses an awning but they do provide a useful space for people. 😊 Karina
@@HereWeTow thanks 😊 I lived in the UK until I was 7 (Lancaster!) and for 11 years more recently in London, so I know UK weather! 😆 ... I can definitely see the space thing if you're in a caravan parked up for several days. I think the thule pull out awning will do me though 👍 thanks for the detailed reply (even if I still think they're nuts! 🤪).
I know Lancaster quite well 😊 The Thule is a very good choice for a canopy, you can get sides for it too if you did want to make it in to a residence room. Take care 😊 Karina
Great vid really helpful. I’m currently planning on buying my first caravan Freedom Twin Sport. I know they do a tailored full awning but I’m completely confused about the porch air ones and if I could even get one for a van that small. I’m going to have a closer look now Iv seen this.
The Freedom looks very different, I like it. I see they have a Bradcot which is a good awning but I don’t see why a small porch, like a 200 wouldn’t fit. There are several manufacturers including Outdoor Revolution, Olpro, Vango, Kampa etc...might be worth considering as an easy put up on a short trip. Enjoy your new caravan when you decide to buy 😊 Karina
Yes, we have always used this one www.leisureoutlet.com/maintenance/cleaning-and-maintenance/caravans-and-motorhomes/11042-quest-awning-rail-and-zip-maintenance-spray?surface=active&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6qXzs8vk7wIVlO7tCh1CMweLEAQYAiABEgJpyPD_BwE
Hi ,are you still happy with your MH. Iv found our MH with huge wing mirrors is over 9 ft wide . I’m thinking of going down to a car and caravan .something like eldiss explore, swift base camp or the adria action . Another point our citreon cactus as only done 2 k this year I know that’s partly covid . There are only two of us so I’m so unsure . Your ideas are welcome . Best regards john carr.
Hi John, we have ordered the Compact Supreme DL which is 2.1 metres wide, a standard MH is 2.3 metres. That 20cm does make quite a difference on narrow roads. 9ft wide must be quite stressful to drive at times. A small caravan is easy to tow and access sites with and offers a good base to explore from. You just have the setting up when you arrive on site which you don’t with a Motorhome. It is a hard decision to make with regards to the best outfit for you. 😊 Karina

Oh John you must have been so gutted 😞 I like the Ford based Motorhomes and it’s disappointing to have had a mechanical problem. I know Keswick well, lots of solid dry stone walls. Im sure things will be better once we get back out again 😊 Karina
First time I saw my Full Size Awning I said 'no way' inside my head, but still proceeded with the purchase of the 2008 Ace Celebration 620, with the intention of putting the awning on eBay. Too much faffing about with metalwork and effort, we'll have a small awning, but it'll be an inflatable jobby, to give us somewhere to towel the dogs, and change shoes, and maybe sit outside with a mug of tea, but beyond that, not really interested in awnings. Just seems too much like erecting a tent for no purpose, and being disabled, too much work that would cause too much pain and discomfort. The Caravan is big enough already for the two of us, so no thanks, we'll pass.
Good advice and good video. Camp tec look interesting for the money. Personally don’t like Kampa but like Vango. Isabella way out of my budget.
Thanks Louise 😊
cant get enough of the videos, just bought our 1st caravan and now am trying to become an online expert of all the other things we may need.
Thank you for watching Gary and I am sure you will love caravanning. There are so many great places to stay and visit and you will meet some great people 😊 Karina
Well...heres a new one. never thought I would sit and watch a vid about awnings . something new .lol
😂 The new Friday night is an exciting place to be these days! Thanks for watching 😊Karina
Thanks very much. Very informative. Will definitely watch your site again.

Very informative. Thanks for the heads up.I can put my porch awning up easily now

We had a very similar experience. Back with a carbon x framed isabella, far superior.
I have a Camptec pole awning I bought used for £300 and its like new, full size, massive and a really stunning piece of kit, I'm very pleased with it.
That is good to hear..thanks for commenting about that 😊 Karina

We have steel poles for our Isabella awning ,heavy yes but great for strong winds.ive seen other poles snap.
Isabella are a great awning manufacturer 😊👍

Mine would have to be Adria and then Swedish manufacturer Kabe 😊 Karina

They will guarantee that you will probably lose your puppy at the first whiff of a BBQ 🐾🐾😂 I hope you find the right solution for you with an awning 😊
The isabella air has 1 point for the whole tent.
Good advice generally but may be of help to others if you point out the problems with air awnings on a non level pitch.

We had the same caravan and we had a Vango porch awning and we really did need, It was an air awning but it did us and we actually miss the set-up
I use furniture polish not silicon spray! Just as good. In fact great for stuck zips....
That is a great tip for the zips 😊👍
Can you recommend a silicone spray type for the awning channel?
Yes, we have always used this one www.leisureoutlet.com/maintenance/cleaning-and-maintenance/caravans-and-motorhomes/11042-quest-awning-rail-and-zip-maintenance-spray?surface=active&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6qXzs8vk7wIVlO7tCh1CMweLEAQYAiABEgJpyPD_BwE
