Nature's artwork is the absolute best! Simple pleasures like camping and fire and good food are also pretty fine. Watching the earth shed her beautiful colours this autumn has been an incredible gift. Life is pretty darned good! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
That was fun to watch, thanks. Love the cooking details and setting up and taking down the tent. It may seem repetitive to you, but it's always fun to watch for me. I am transitioning from RV camping to tent camping. Happy fall and Halloween.
Trangia Triangle, my favorite stove!😊! It’s a little slow but it’s so silent! The quietness to me is golden. It doesn’t interfere with fauna movement around us.
Hi Wendy, such a beautiful little island! Thank you for sharing Nature's artwork with your artistic photos. I was thinking, what if you combined both methods for rehydrating? Do the 4 hour cold soak, then drop the bag into hot water to warm it and finish off the rehydration? Also, I use a military foam mat under my pad to insulate from the ground. They weigh next to nothing and also give another bit of cushion. They can be cut to fit your system, too. Roll it up and clip it to the top or bottom of your pack. It's also nice for sitting on the ground and leaning against a tree or rock. I just love these trips you take us on!
that is an interesting idea about the bag in hot water. It is worth a try- Also the mat- Lynne carries a thin blue foam mat. I have also seen folding mats used but I haven't been able to source one in Canada yet. They looked great as they slide into a pack- I have a waffle foam mat but it is too bulky for my pack- as is my reflective pad. I could use the foam if I cut it narrower. thanks for your suggestions.
I loved this video - truly beautiful scenery and the peace and tranquility is just what we all need at this time of year. I live in Torbay in South Devon, UK. It is known as the English Riviera and attracts a lot of summer tourists. I will also enjoy a peaceful early morning walk tomorrow along the cliff tops and enjoy a hot coffee on the marina before everyone else is awake. Happy Weekend all 😊xx
Ye, I grew up in Paignton, left Devon aged 21, moved around a lot, and haven't moved back since! Ye, it was good to read a comment from a local of me old town! ye, use to enjoy the cliff walks from Goodrington to Brixham. All the very best! Enjoy.

What a lovely Fall trip! I feel you on the "closing" of the island for winter. I'm near Rainier and many of the roads have closed and the mountain passes will close very soon as well...I feel like my world shrinks in half in winter. Thank you for doing a lot of your video without music...I enjoy hearing the natural sounds 😊

What a lovely video! I love how you frame the still photos and videos. Each one would make a great puzzle image.😁👍🏼 And hearing the sounds of the birds and waterfowl, and the crunch of your shoes on the beach on your morning walk, is magical. How ironic, that the sandstone, which itself was once soft sand on a shore, is now being pummeled by the waves to return to its previous state of being loose, soft sand now on a new shore.
Thank you Wendy for sharing another wonderful experience camping. They alway relax me. My tip for washing dishes is to have a spray bottle with half water and half vinegar. Spray and let it sit to disinfect and wipe down with a dishcloth. Happy Trails!
What a beautiful little campout Wendy! The scenery and those gorgeous Canadian maples in the fall were really a precious sight to me. Well done. I am looking forward to see that island in the spring . Thank you for taking us with you.
I put them in the sleeping bag. Under the mat, it might get wet from condensation. Then your clothes will be warm and dry in the morning. I purchased a Thermorest Trail Light for woman. The R value is 4.5. It's foam and air, no noise, inflates to 1 3/8 inches. Best mat I've had. Used it for over a year now as I am crossing the US on various trails. I'm so glad for you and your channel. It's important to get out and do whatever one can do outside. I'm 65 now, and as long as I can get out and backpack - well, that's what I'm gonna do 😅

Thank you for another wonderful video! I discovered your channel with your previous post of Newcastle Island. It is so refreshing to see familiar places on the Island - lived here all my life! I honestly thought the albino raccoon was a ghost - lol! - many years ago, one night!
that is funny Gillian!!! I haven't seen one yet but it would be a fright if you didn't know about them. Really appreciate hearing from you and have an islander watching. Got any ideas for videos?
Hey Wendy , Nice to see you out for a hike and camp with your friend , and indeed it is very pretty, Thanks for showing us those interesting rocky areas amazing how the waters can shape rock & sandstone .. I have seen similar when the tide was out in St Andrews by the sea out in eastern Canada . Nice breakfast think ill try that. Hey thanks for bringing us with Lynn and yourself to the island .
Thank you Wendy for sharing this beautiful camp with spectacular scenery and delicious food with some great tips. I am still experimenting with the dehydration machine, still a beginner but I think it will be worth it and especially with making produce last longer. Then I will try making meals. Really enjoy your videos while learning to make camping simpler , so that i and my loved ones can enjoy more of the different activities. Its good to have company as well as going solo.
yes, I enjoy going solo and having a friend. Best of both worlds- I think dehydrating is an art form! Some foods are just better than others to under go the process I think.
What a beautiful morning you both woke up to on the island, and that beach is stunning no matter what time of year it is. Our trees have begun turning as well, and the hard frost we had a couple days ago will speed up the Fall color changes. There's only one word for that green ferry - cute! Just my size lol. Wendy, do you have one of those self-inflating sleeping pads hikers use under your sleeping bag for added comfort? Thanks so much for sharing with all of us. You made my tummy grumble with that yummy breakfast, so on to the kitchen. Be well!
I love the sights and sounds of nature in your videos!! I'm learning so much from you. My first solo camping trip went very well and was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. It was so nice I'm going again in June next year! Thank you for your inspirational videos!!
wonderful to hear you had a good first solo trip- the first of many I hope for you. I enjoy my solo trips very much but I also enjoy going with others. Camping any way is terrific!!
I enjoy solo camping as well, but couldn't walk as far as you do! The tips and tricks you have tried will be part of what I will try next season, as well. Thanks! I might suggest you label your little bottle of methanol, including flammable and poison symbols. (In case someone else gets into your gear...) I also do this on my home mixture of hand sanitizer/70% isopropanol. Cheers!
@@wendyoutdoors2230 You are welcome. Clothing under the airpad is more of emergency situation. You need to have properly rated pad for subzero temps( R6+) or layer it with foam pad. Foam pad/pads will add some insulation(R2) and it is a backup if airpad deflates(never happened to me, but I know about others). Be well.
Rain or fog it all looks beautiful. The main thing is to stay warm. I just discovered you and you won't be making many videos..boohoo! I'm going to have to watch all your videos from the beginning that I missed. Hope you do something fun soon. I look forward to your videos.
$1.00 for a 2-ounce emergency thermal blanket under your air mattress will keep you as warm as the "COZY" that you use for your dehydrated camping food! I guaranty it. HAPPY TRAILS!
I have heard that and I have one. Next cool campout I will give it a go along with putting my clothes under the mat. It would be a very easy and compact combo.
Lovely. Do you have any trouble getting into and out of a small tent? I prefer a compact 2-person tent even for car camping on road trips, but I get a bit sore from the awkward maneuvering. Any suggestions? .
Hi Marilyn- I don't have any difficulties usually- I think being small and still reasonable flexible helps. I spend a lot of time on the ground and getting up off the ground which helps. The mornings are the hardest so I move slowly and deliberately. I try to be aware of how I am moving so I don't pull muscles. rolling and rocking motions are better than jerky sharp upward moves.
Question/suggestion/comment: Loved this adventure!!! And all the ideas! I’ve been noticing for a while that occasionally your sound is muffled and I’d like to help troubleshoot… Wondering what you have on your mic or are you using different equipment or is the mic covered with a wind sock or maybe it is turned facing a different direction when you have the camera turned away from you…? Just a few things to consider. Hope it’s helpful.
thank you very much Anita. I struggle with that myself- I have a mic on the protector for my go pro which is directional and unless I am right beside it and not behind it the sound is not as clear. It does have an attached wind sock which cannot be removed- It works well under most circumstances but is not perfect for sure. I will keep working on it. Really appreciate your comments. Please forward any other thoughts.
Assume he doesn't need to keep it preserved. I am not sure how that would work- Guess outdoor temperature is a concern in deciding if that would be safe.
Hi Glenn- Consider what you really want to do with the kayak.- fish, camp, or just laze about. Also the weather, currents , types of water etc where you plan to paddle- go to a speciality dealer and tell them what you want to do. Many will make provision for you to try some out in water. You don't know if it is right for you until you do that. You need to "feel" the fit. A lot of bracing happens in the thighs. If they are a good dealer they will want to make sure it is right for you. Consider the weight for lifting up onto a vehicle. Spend money on a good paddle if you are planning longer paddles- It is your motor along with your body. Length , weight and styles vary. If it is a "just for fun" boat these things don't matter as much but when we Kayaked we planned ocean paddling and camp outs so all this really mattered to us. Good equipment and some professional lessons can save your life plus give you great enjoyment.
Hi Paula- I think an occasional bear has been sighted but rare. The ferry does not need to be booked and I think it was $15 return for adults and $12 for seniors. A worthwhile trip

@@janetbrowning9089 totally- I think cardboard might taste good some days😂

Beautiful video. I’m so glad you made it before it closed for the winter. I imagine it would be stunning in the winter though. Thanks for sharing this place in the fall. Hopefully, you’ll be able to visit in the spring.
me too Julie- every season has its beauty for sure.
I love that little green boat!
very cute- I agree
Thank you for another wonderful video! I discovered your channel with your previous post of Newcastle Island. It is so refreshing to see familiar places on the Island - lived here all my life! I honestly thought the albino raccoon was a ghost - lol! - many years ago, one night!
that is funny Gillian!!! I haven't seen one yet but it would be a fright if you didn't know about them. Really appreciate hearing from you and have an islander watching. Got any ideas for videos?
Another interesting video Wendy with some lovely shots of that picturesque island. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us.
you are very welcome- thank you
Hey Wendy , Nice to see you out for a hike and camp with your friend , and indeed it is very pretty, Thanks for showing us those interesting rocky areas amazing how the waters can shape rock & sandstone .. I have seen similar when the tide was out in St Andrews by the sea out in eastern Canada . Nice breakfast think ill try that. Hey thanks for bringing us with Lynn and yourself to the island .
thanks a lot Sue- I love the way the water can create these lovely shapes.
Beautiful sandstone formations. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed. I really thought they were beautiful too.
What a relaxing video! I love your adventures so much. Also, that island is beautiful!
thanks Terra- I loved it too and am so happy I found this an easy but beautiful place to visit.
Thanks for the lovely video. It looks like a beautiful place to camp.
It really is!
I just love your adventures, simple and lovely. Thanks for sharing!!😊
thank you for coming along
Great video.
thanks very much Beth
Greetings from Houston, Texas. Great video. 🤝
thanks a lot-
Beautiful area and scenery!❤
It was great watching you cook your breakfast and eat it!
Great video and thank you for sharing!
you are very welcome- thanks for you time.
The cloud formations above you at around the 13:56 minute mark were spectacular!
love the skies! The clouds are like wonderful paintings.
Excellent! You inspire effortlessly! I feel like I got some 'tree time'. I'll be camping next weekend. Your videos will do in the meantime!
Have a wonderful time out there!
Another great visit with you and Lynn! Thanks for taking us along again and for the leaf "scrunching" on the trail! ❤
thanks dawn- It was a great overnight. I felt like a kid again scrunching through the leaves.
Keep enjoying nature Wendy ! Love your channel thank you !
Thank you so much!
So serene what a beautiful place to camp! 💚
Oh and I love your filming with the added music choices too!
Yes it was! I really feel I have found a gem amid the chaos.
Thanks for taking us along, Wendy, what a beautiful adventure!!! Be well.
thank you Loretta
What a beautiful morning you both woke up to on the island, and that beach is stunning no matter what time of year it is. Our trees have begun turning as well, and the hard frost we had a couple days ago will speed up the Fall color changes. There's only one word for that green ferry - cute! Just my size lol. Wendy, do you have one of those self-inflating sleeping pads hikers use under your sleeping bag for added comfort? Thanks so much for sharing with all of us. You made my tummy grumble with that yummy breakfast, so on to the kitchen. Be well!
yes, My nemo pad works well but it is not self inflating. So happy you enjoyed the visit and the ferry ride!
Great video and nice to have breakfast with you! A beautiful place with many opportunities for awesome photography with an assortment of lenses😁
Yes, one day I may get into that- I think it would be fun.
Great outing, Wendy, as usual! I love my Trangia stove which I bought in high school! Still going strong 40 years later.
That is awesome Ellen- It is obviously a great product. Glad to have you along
I hope I get the chance to visit Canada someday…It looks so beautiful!
I hope so too! It is a very diverse and huge country. so many different types of environments to experience. I sure haven't seen it all!
Good morning Wendy, I loved your video, the views are fantastic!
Thank you so much Pam
I enjoy solo camping as well, but couldn't walk as far as you do! The tips and tricks you have tried will be part of what I will try next season, as well. Thanks! I might suggest you label your little bottle of methanol, including flammable and poison symbols. (In case someone else gets into your gear...) I also do this on my home mixture of hand sanitizer/70% isopropanol. Cheers!
that is an excellent suggestion Pat- thank you.
Very nice thank you.
Thank you too!
Stunning scenery! Thank you for sharing it with us 😊
my pleasure
Well done!
thanks Mary
Your morning beach shots were amazing 👏 😊.
A great time of day. So glad I got up for that.
👋👍🙏
thanks Vladimir- that extra clothing layer did add some comfort although warmth wasn't an issue that night- I was very comfortable.
Be well.
Beautiful area! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Thanks for watching and for your comments.
Glad you did not go alone☮️🇨🇦💜
thanks Sandy- it is fun to have a camping buddy along.

❤️- thank you
Now you have to “Wash the Pot”,
……. I am giggling with you. Hihi.
What a lovely place to Camp out.
yes, the dirty pot! thanks for laughing with me.
Rain or fog it all looks beautiful. The main thing is to stay warm. I just discovered you and you won't be making many videos..boohoo! I'm going to have to watch all your videos from the beginning that I missed. Hope you do something fun soon. I look forward to your videos.
thanks Flora- I will still be around but just not every week. I so appreciate that you have been watching .
What a great place. I’m heading out to car camp tonight. 😊
have a marvellous time Lisa-
Some hikers cold soak their food while they are hiking.start it in the morning, saves time when your ready to cook
Yes, that is a good idea . I started to soak mine once on the site so it had about 4 hours.
I am going to try that trick with eggs and a tortilla!
yes, you can add lots of different things to it. At home I sometimes have salsa and sour cream too!
Thanks for sharing the beautiful views!🍂 Are raccoons the only animals that you need to worry about on that island? Enjoy your fall!🍁
yes, for the most part- I know the occasional bear has been sighted there but I don't think they hang out there very much.
Here we go again! Yeehaw ! ❤
thanks for coming along again
Thanks for making my day! ❤
Question/suggestion/comment:
Loved this adventure!!!
Wendy, I feel so ashamed 😢 you are a mentor ☮️🧚♀️💜
no shame- do what works for you- and enjoy it!
nice camp out
thanks Phyllis
Hi, and thanks for another great video. I noticed your video footage while walking etc. was very steady, what camera do you use?
Generally my go pro black 10 which has good image stabilization . thanks for asking James
As a cabinet maker I can’t stop ogling the tree trunks littering the beach behind you as you walk…😮
There is a lot of it . You could have your pick!
Enjoy your videos Wendy. What do you use for your camera and sound equipment in the field? Keep up the gee re at work.
I have a go pro black 10 and my iPhone. Nothing very fancy- thanks for asking
One guy I watch vacuum-seals food to bring. Then you just put the bag in hot water to heat it. 😊
Assume he doesn't need to keep it preserved. I am not sure how that would work- Guess outdoor temperature is a concern in deciding if that would be safe.
@@wendyoutdoors2230 He lives in Alaska, so . . .
@@janicesmith2475 guessing the food is self preserved 🥶
Hi Wendy! I'm wanting to buy a second hand or new kayak! Anything i should be looking for in particular
@@wendyoutdoors2230 wow! Thanks for your thoughtfulness! 😊
@@glennfoster5431 no problem-you’re most welcome
Great location!! Any predators besides raccoons? Did you have to book the foot ferry? Does it have a cost? ❤
Hi Paula- I think an occasional bear has been sighted but rare. The ferry does not need to be booked and I think it was $15 return for adults and $12 for seniors. A worthwhile trip
@@wendyoutdoors2230 thank you for the quick response! I’d love to do a bike tour/camping trip hopping in and off the Gulf Islands ❤️ Thanks!!
