Kia ora Becca, What drew me in at first was seeing NZ through a newcomers eyes, I'm also a little homesick not being able to visit the last couple of years... But then your infectious giggle of delight, your beautiful family and just your amazing positivity. Keep up the good work.
Kia ora! Thanks so much for saying! It means a lot ☺️ We're just trying to have a good time and document our life here. It's so fun to watch our little boy grow up so quickly as well.
I enjoy seeing New Zealand life through the eyes of a new arrival, that's what drew me to your videos. I can attest that you are as lovely in person as you are on UA-cam :) I also love that have embraced this country and don't keep referring to what you miss or how great everything is that you've left. I fully respect that is your home country but it's just lovely that you are enjoying your new life. Congratulations on growing your subscribers!
One of my very most favorite things about our channel is that we've gotten to make some really great friends ☺️ so glad you reached out so long ago! And can't wait for lockdown to be over so we can come for a visit. We love it here and are always trying to get a more "authentic" NZ experience. We really don't miss much of anything back home (except family, of course).
Thanks for posting. A lot of what you have said makes total sense to me, and I have been discovering the same things with my channel. Learning as you go is a big thing, thumbnails, Content, Titles, Branding, Audience etc. Mine is still evolving, and I am still learning the editing freeware I am using. My goal is to get to 1000 subs and 4k hours within 12 months. Thanks again for the post.
A big thumbs-up to you for your ethics and lack of mid-roll ads, that makes your channel a refreshing change from much of the ad-laden self-serving content that we find on UA-cam. YAY! All of the tips you've given here are good and it's clear you've done your homework, most of the points you present are things that I too have learned during my 15 or so years of publishing videos on the platform. I shall continue to watch and enjoy seeing this channel grow and evolve, as I'm sure it will.
Such a difference between your first videos to the latest, you seem much more comfortable and natural talking to the camera. Your lad is amazingly happy,I don't think I've ever seen him cry...or maybe those bits end up on the cutting room floor!😅
A lot of yelling and fussing gets cut out for sure! But he really is such a happy kid. He usually only gets flustered when he’s tired/hungry (who doesn’t?). And it’s so fun watching back to the earlier videos and seeing how much better we’ve gotten! I can’t wait to see where we’ll be in a year’s time 😊
Interesting video. I found you guys after watching you try kiwi food. It’s funny I’m not a parent (but love kids), or vegan & I’m a kiwi but it’s your joyful personality & your interactions that I love watching & seeing NZ thru both your eyes. thanks
I started watching your new channel when you were in MIQ, I'm already here as a citizen, but I was interested in the people's experience - there was a lot of talk about the food, what people could do or not do, and so forth... the differences between the facilities and suddenly I had to know more - some first hand experience from vloggers. subscribed to quite a few, then their lives just changed once they were released or their usual vlog was something quite different. You sure picked a good time to come, I've a relative who has been using the new "virtual lobby" the first time the other week and she was advised something like 25000 others in the queue for I think it was 3000 rooms! This time she got further along but not within the 3000 rooms... Being a NZer on shore, so to speak it's depressing but interesting what is happening for travellers...for sure.
I am so glad we got here when we did, the new MIQ system sounds like a headache lottery! We were so lucky! Also, time in the MIQ went by so slowly compared to time while in lockdown, i cant believe its been 1 and a half months!
@@Becca.Loveless I went to see Teeks with the Auckland Symphony orchestra at the town Hall in 2019 and it was unbelievable ua-cam.com/video/R-9EBepXIWo/v-deo.html
You're relatable and a breath of fresh air so I'm watching! Keep it up! We're also Americans in NZ but came right before COVID so no MIQ but it's cool to see your perspective since we live in a different city/town. We have videos on your channel but we're doing it for ourselves, documenting our travels since we didn't know how long we'd be in NZ for. I guess 2.5 years later and we're still in NZ!

Hi, I have been watching a lot a videos lately about people moving to New Zealand and their reasons and thoughts about their journey. Really enjoying watching.🙂
@@Becca.Loveless doing great! I’m worried about y’all though. Not sure how much longer your lock-down is going to last. 😬 Keep your chin up and keep cooking (please- so I can copy cat all of your recipes 😉).
LOOK OUT!!! (10:48) He's going backwards. Toddlers make me so nervous sometimes, I have visions of terrible accidents, especially involving the corners of coffee tables. Also, I just knew those people were going to walk down that path behind you, ha ha.
I have had quite a few heart attacks with him in the high chair, but we've tested it out and it's designed to not flip easily. We usually do push him out further from the table so he can't kick against it though - thanks for the reminder ☺️ And those people scared me so bad! I wish you could see the parts I clipped from the video when they startled me walking by - very awkward! But funny now :)
@@Becca.Loveless Hey I'm sorry to hear that was a bit of a scary moment on the path, I mean most of the time things are fine, but it's a good idea to be vigilant. There are the odd weirdos out there unfortunately. Hopefully those people didn't purposefully mean to startle you.
We avoided it too because we made it several times and it was slimy. Recently I’ve started again, and to avoid that I use cold water only, and blend it for only15-20 seconds in a high speed blender, when I strain it through a cheese cloth or nut bag I don’t try to get every drop. I do, 1 cup oats to 4 cup water. And add a tiny bit of salt and a date for sweetness. I’ll blend that up separately with another cup of water so it doesn’t blend the oats too long. It’s still not as good as the grocery store milk, but it’s not slimy. 😀

It's really nice because we film with our phones so it's pretty inconspicuous. I'm soooo awkward when it comes to taking photos or videos in front of other people - it's definitely something I've had to work hard on. My mantra I'm always telling myself is "it's a moment of awkwardness, and it's worth it for the shot/picture." All my audience is Kiwi, so there must be at least a few here that know what UA-cam is! That is not a funny story! That is a horrible story! I can't believe anyone would be that rude. I've been lucky so far and haven't had any experiences like that.
@@Becca.Loveless yup! Can people make a living being Vloggers?? I'm older generation and I'm trying to understand how this works? BTW I love how your excitement flows into your utube. That baby of yours is incredibly cute and sweet.
They can if they do well enough! Once you’re at 1000 subs on UA-cam you can “monetize” but you get basically no money (think cents per movie). The real way you make money is later when you have a bigger following to do brand deals and affiliate links. I haven’t done either of these yet. And thank you so much! We agree he is a cute one, and we try to have a good time :)
He always wants help going down the stairs but doesnt appreciate it very much. Same with crossing the street, right when we are on the other side he rips his hand out of mine!
Re Audio: a decent lapel mic (for walking around), and then a telescope/shotgun mic (for static "to-camera" pieces). The downside of the better quality audio tho, is that it is not integrated with the video (if you are recording on a phone). It is recorded separately, and then needs to be sync'ed up later at editing (and which a lot of vloggers do a pretty poor job of). Hopefully you have got good video editing software (which handles video and audio as seperate files). But if you are just using iMovie though... well... you are pretty limited with that... Something like Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere are great for a real step up in quality... But... also a great step up in complexity. lol.
