Got my 500 Turkey Tactical for $ 400, just bought a 835 Turkey Tactical for$ 505.24 brand new. Been using a 835 with a Simmons Pro Diamond on it and it is Very Deadly. Did put a Red Dot on the 500.
Hello. Thanks for the view. I wouldn’t. I contacted Mossberg when researching mine. They said to absolutely not shoot TSS through their choke. I would get a TSS rated choke. A good one to start with is the Carlson’s.
Hey bud, great review. Thanks for taking the time to make it. I have the same gun but haven't shot it yet. I'm curious to know which aftermarket sight you went with?
Thank you very much. I went with the Vortex Venom using the Carlson’s Longbeard Choke shooting the Winchester Longbeard #5. We will be doing a video with the setup this spring. I was amazed at the pattern we got. I couldn’t be happier.
@@MetalneckOutdoors thanks for the reply I wound going with the same sling but with the locked sling swivel for the top and a qd attachment on the bottom
Would you consider this a one all do all shotgun .. from 2 legged critters up to deer and pigs and others in between... changing your load of course for the bigger game .
In my opinion. Everything other than wing shooting. The tactical platform makes it great for home defense. Very comfortable as a turkey gun which is why I purchased it.
@@MetalneckOutdoors loading #8.5 tss i run mine on ducks and geese plus p Upland. Id take it over a 20ga any day but one must be wealthy or reload for it to take advantage of it as a wimgshooting gun.
Im curious how you like the tang safety with the pistol grip. Lots of guys are complaining that its hard to disengage the safety without excess movement
I’m a big fan of it. Especially being a left hand shooter. I usually click my safety off before I see the bird anyway. I’ve hunted with a Benelli M2, but I’m in love with the mossberg pistol grip. So much easier on my wrist.
@@MetalneckOutdoors thank you for taking the time to answer. I usually do the same with my 870 or Maverick 88 or Nova... I just keep my finger off the trigger until its go time. Everything else about the 500 Tactical Turkey seems like a go, the only reason i havent bought it is due to that safety location. Is the safety pretty stiff on it?
Not really stiff at all. Nothing a little oil and using won’t take care of. More to grab onto vs a button type. I own 3 mossberg’s. Early 90’s 835, a 930 and this 500.
@@MetalneckOutdoors I am torn between this gun and the M835 turkey/deer combo. I like the looks of the tactical stock with the pistol grip, just wasn’t sure if it could handle slugs. However, I don’t know if I’d enjoy the recoil of a slug out of that 20” barrel lol.
@@garrettpass9874 yes it can shoot slugs but youll need a diff choke for it. Any invector choke fits it so not an issue. Get a improved cylinder, modified, and full choke 3 pack, shoot bremneke slugs, not foster slugs and you can do birds and bucks with it no issues.
It’s the Magpul Two Point Sling in Ranger Green. We will be putting out a second video soon with all the upgrades and links for them. Thanks for watching.
Mossberg has always been top of the bead. I have the original 835 and that's how it is, same as my 500

recently got this gun for $250 at scheels (preowned) with a sight but its clean and love it thank you for the review
You are very welcome. Thank you for the support. The Mossberg 500 has become my favorite Turkey gun. The current setup is a killer.
Hi i just bought a Mossberg 500 turkey mod, in 20, ga was wondering if its safe to shoot Federal 3rd degree TSS in the factory supplied turkey choke.

@@MetalneckOutdoors Thanks thats what i would be doing , thanks metal
BareOw lol my friend just gifted me this gun looking fwd to using it.
Im considering modifying my 20" mossberg 500 to shoot tighter patterns.

Thanks. Looking forward to the update with that setup. Merry Christmas to you all.!
How is your camo paint/covering holding up? (Mine is fading to a white after shooting trap for practice. Not so good for turkeys’ vision.)
Mine is holding up great. With that being said I only use mine for Turkey Hunting.
How did you attach the sling on the cap, I’ve got an 835 and am having a ridiculously hard time figuring out how to attach one
My 500 has a post in the end. My 835 I had to buy the bolt that screws in the bottom of the cap. Should by a tapped hole there

You would have to switch out the choke to fire slugs or buck shot.

Somewhat inconvenient and a little awkward

Looks like muzzle jump, try holding barrel down on sand bag with ur other hand, bet it's dead on
Wasn’t muzzle jump. Fixed the issue with a red dot.
Is it possible to shoot rifled slugs out of this barrel also?
I am not 100% certain on that. I know they sale slug barrels for them. I wouldn’t see why not.

Look into the Ruger American Bushmaster 450. It shoots a heck of a bullet and puts them on the ground. Very accurate and deadly.

High Left.
Made some upgrades. I added a Vortex Venom and a choke. This is now my go to Turkey Thumper. We will do another video this spring with the upgrades.
How much does that weigh
7.25 lbs
