So this looks more complicated than it actually is. I backed out of doing this the day I got my Gladiator SCG because it looked complicated, but got tired of not being able to make that little thumb stick behave the way I wanted with software so I decided to swap it out today with the HAT switch. And honestly I'm amazed at how simple it really was. They really did make these joysticks serviceable by anyone. I use this HAT's "click" function as a shift modifier. I really have to applaud VKB for this incredible video AND their amazing engineering.
Very easy to do , the only reason I had to watch this video is because there is some ambiguity about where to place the screws for the hat switch as there are a couple of places they could go. After taking it apart you can really see where you are spending your money as everything is modular and well thought out. Dave from EEEblog would love this one.
i wish the VKB software was easier to understand. i had to do this because i wanted to just turn the thumb stick into a hat switch but couldn't figure out how to do it via software so i have to just physically turn it into a hat.
Okay this is a bit scary but i appreciate the fact that the spring are either barely compressed or rapidly getting captive, i hate working on springs and miniature mechanical technology for this reason
Yup, they really couldn't have made this any harder to do if they'd tried. I'm gonna have to do it anyway though. I have zero use for a ministick (need the tactile feedback), and especially in that position. If it had been the rightmost hat switch that was a little analog stick, I could have perhaps learnt to live with it. @@thert.hon.thelordnicholson7261
Hi VKB! Just bought the Gladiator NXT Pro, and I see this video, but is there any video where it shows on how to replace the thumb hat with the simple button? Because I prefer to have a button... A video about that change would be much appreciated! Many thanks in advance!
Объясните пожалуйста, а что поменялось?) Есть же возможность нажатием на хатку а1 сделать режим осей, зачем еще что то переделывать? Кстати, нажатием можно поменять только в премиум версии?
Well, I just did this as per the video for the Gladiator NXT (same stick) and now I'm having major issues. I plugged in the USB, only blue lights on the base, NOT the upper stick. Ran the calibration and the Z ROT axis does not register at all. None of the buttons are registering in the Configurator tool either. Not sure what to do. Attempted multiple calibrations, restarts etc. Any tips?
Well, the old fashioned thing apparently worked. Took off the side of the stick and "wiggled" the wiring in the connector. The stick now works fine. Probably a loose wire in the bundle. Careful! It is fragile.
I just did the stick swap and unfortunately you can't swap the red button. I'm assuming you want it to be closer to an F-16/A-10 stick (also why I got the Kosmosima). They do make an adapter for the Thustmaster Warthog stick if you're going in that direction although I don't know if you can buy the Gunfighter base separately.
The Gladiator NXT Premium is supposed to get restocked on December 17. You could definitely get a Standard version and upgrade it without voiding the warranty, but make sure first the seller could provide you the upgrade kit.
I just ordered this stick for DCS A-10C II, however I'm confused about the mini stick and hat switch. Why would I need to take the entire stick apart and install the optional hat switch if long-pressing the mini stick converts it to a hat switch function?
I think it's just an option for those who prefer the perhaps more positive (?) feel and lower travel of an on/off 4-way hat rather than a ministick acting as a 4/8way POV.
No, the only thing that you could do in there is to swap the default ministick with the HAT switch included in the Premium grips. You could also swap the caps between the 3 HATs on the head of the grip.
OK so how do I change the profile so these buttons aren't treated like POV and ministick but are just HATs, and is there a way to still make is double up by holding down the center button (and make the one hat two, or maybe have every HAT become two HATs?)

I was just watching this thinking the same thing. I'll go ahead and do it :D

The 80's slasher movie music doesn't comfort me as I reach for my screw driver...
LOL the ominous music reflects the ominous talk of disassembling your $150 joystick....
Similarly nail biting music on their 'Flash your joystick bios with our easy to use config software' video..
Indeed, upped the anxiety quite a lot!
Well shoot! I just did this two days ago and had to use someone else's breakdown with an older version of the stick. These video's are much better!
Michael Myers is going to show me how to disassemble my joystick, NICE!!!!
I've been thinking about doing this...I appreciate this so much. TY
Great video! Followed it exactly for my SCG - it was spot on 100%. VKB is *great*
I love this darn controller ❤
My screws to my pcb were silver though.

For the money you wont find anything as well made, so impress that I got the Stecs and the Gladiator NXT and I love them
You only have to fully disassemble the stick. Nice
Came here casually thinking "yeah I'll switch em out" and by the 3-minute mark in this vid I've decided that the ministick is perfectly fine as it is

Can you also follow this for the premium gladiator nzxt grip? It looks the same but it has a wire hanging under it
Yes
There's a few parts in the video where it us very crucial and should be emphasise further...
Do you need to hit in new firmware, after changing joy for 4way? or does it work like it sits?
Wondering about this myself now. Have you found out about it?

Hey where is the video to change the other thing in the packet? It's a button.
is it possible to switch the A2 red button for the hat swtich included in the premium version? or is it only for the A1 ministick? thanks for the help
I don’t own one but I would assume that you can only swap for a1

@@phatman808 How is the Kosmosima more similar to an F-16/A-10 stick if the Kosmosima and Gladiator have the same button/switch layout?
Hey VKB,
In Europe the Nxt Premium isnt available...can i Upgrade the Normal one to a premium?
What about the guarantee when doing This?

The mini stick behaviour may be configurable in the VKB software
@@timp2751 exactly this
Just turn the thumb stick into a hat switch ....easy and you get two HAT switch from one Ministick

is it possible to adjust the z axis, I wish mine had less tension
Unfortunately the twist spring cannot be adjusted.
@@VKBSim Well thank you for the reply
I'd really hoped this wouldn't be such a massive bother to do. An analog ministick is kinda useless if you have headtracking or a VR set...

You could do that assigning a Shift function to the center push button of the HAT, following the tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/t2-g0dKEmAs/v-deo.html
i think i'll leave mine as it is thanks
N….Nice Music……
Damn that's tedious...
Couldn't you just make a front plate to take that part off?
And you also didn't show how to take the grip off the stick.
That's in another video, and the grip comes unattached, so just do the attachment process in reverse.
Be sure to ground yourself before messing with the electronics in your flight controls or the plane will do it for you.
