I trupy hope he gets a custodial sentence, the original Sun story shouldve rung more alarm bells. Disgusting leacherous behaviour like that can sometimes indicate a more sinister problem....40 odd images is 40 odd victims. Utterly grim.
It was really strange how he was defended. Like you say there was enough in the original story to set alarm bells ringing but plenty leapt to his defence as if he was a victim of the tabloids. There were even stories about his behaviour at the BBC coming out and they were getting swept under the carpet. Phillip Schofield was hung out to dry when there was no evidence of anything other than an affair with a younger colleague.
I mean, I think there's a very clear reason that papers like The Sun and The Daily Mail go after particular, legitimate stories and issues (and this reason is, clearly, not nearly as 'moral' or upstanding as the papers, or their journalists, or many of their readers are willing to admit). Which is an irritating thing. Because you have other publications, such as The Times, The FT, The Guardian, or even Private Eye, which will go after serious issues for a long time, often with little public interest (at least until a TV show gets made, and publications like The DM and Sun can start churning out their usual partisan, bandwagon drivel), despite the issues impacting far greater numbers of people. I.e. they engage in 'boring' journalism that takes a long time to generate outrage, clicks and ad revenue (if it ever does). And so those who get most of their 'news' from papers like The Sun and The Daily Mail seem to become convinced that these are, in some way, 'anti-establishment', upstanding, even 'moral' publications. Which is, frankly, absurd, given their output more broadly. The real problem, though, is surely that the sort of nonsense that some of these publications put out serves to do little more than stir up trouble, to create more outrage, and more clicks, and, in many cases, it also harms efforts to address whatever it is that they've got their readers ('consumers' is probably a more accurate word) outraged about. The hypocrisy of it all, and the inability of those who lap it up to see through it, should be shocking. But it's not. Some people will always be beyond reason.
@@_Stroda I agree with what you say. I think that sex scandals are an easy way out.
