This video was randomly in my YT feed, and I clicked because I am 99% sure I saw you this weekend at the summit and on the decent of Slide Mountain. You, or someone dressed like you flew past me (orange shirt green hat) and my brother (blue shirt blue hat) on the decent as we were building up the courage to scramble down some crag. How serendipitous to stumble on such great content!
Oh yes, I’ve been working on my downhill trail running these last few weeks. After spending a solid amount of time on Wittenberg Summit! So you caught me trail running down Wittenberg and I saw you guys and said hi the first time at the Cornell crack.
As someone who makes lots of videos, I know how the perspective of the camera can make a steep ascent look somewhat gradual. When it looks steep on the camera you know it’s steep for real!! I so enjoyed this vid, great job from one bushwhacker to another :)
Thanks so much for the reply man and appreciate you watching! I actually talked to my buddy and we decided we’re gonna do it in all four seasons during their peak! I’m excited about winter with some crampons and axes
I've been hiking the Catskills in the past 20 years and always wondered what climbing up the north face of Slide would be like. That was very impressive!! The birds you guys heard at the beginning of the climb was the Winter Wren. Subbed
Very cool! My other friend has this bird app on his phone and we would always let it. Listen to the birds and tell us what we were hearing. I love those birds. All of them
Yes, it is that app. One of the coolest things was once we figured out what bird it was we use the other feature where we could listen to different types of calls and he was playing on his phone, and the birds swooped in and landed on the trees right above our heads and they were looking down at us like are you making that sound lol
Great video as always. I agree with Jay, record as much as you want. The Catskills are beautiful this time of year. I would have been happy watching your return trip to the car as well. Very rarely does the camera truly capture the elevation or incline of a route - you nailed it.
Yeah, you guys aren’t the first people to tell me that they would stick around for the longer details. Sometimes is just a little too redundant so I try to clip it out and try to make it just all of the good parts. I will tell you I love this climb so much, but I will record it in all four seasons now :-)
Just shared on my jay claww FB. Dude absolutely epic, one of the best videos. You literally could have made this two hours including the return trip and I would have watched it all. Fantastic stuff. PLEASE DONT RETURN for that route in the winter (kidding cause you are nuts) that was pretty spicy. THANK YIU FOR GOING THE EXTRA MILE (pun) and doing those shots with the camera above and below. The shot from the side really put the grade in perspective! Dang! That’s for doing those camera retrieval shots :) extra work but they so paid off. Jay. PS you are nuts
Dang, I deleted a lot of clips from the blog because I didn’t want it to be too long because people have a short attention span. I’m happy with it though. And yeah, I love that side angle shot at the top because then you could really see that it’s like a 55° angle at least. You never really can tell how steep something is looking straight up or straight down.
You either love it or you hate it. If you don’t like it, then don’t do it lol. I like the challenge of navigation and making the hike more difficult. It makes me feel like I really earned it and I always wonder if I’m gonna see something that no human has ever seen you before.
Cool video. Just climbed wittenburg in the cats last month. Have a group hike coming up..23 miles 5 peaks in the cats may 25. The garmin looks vital. Model name? How are the altra shoes?...do you have am email as a point of contact?..slide on an official trail is easy. Look forward to the panther upcoming video.

Hiked Slide Mountain a long time ago. Took a main trail up it over 2 peaks then down and up Slide. It was brutal!

6 years of bushwhacking in the catskills and all of the high peaks in the east and I swear I have yet to see one single tick.
