A'lot of these "experts" show up to these conventions and always do a half ass job with their demos. This guy takes his time and is awesome. Definite strokes, details, its all there. More of this artist, please.
I love how he leaves lines out on purpose and he let's your eyes figure it out. Whilce is truly the best comic book artist I think. While Jim Lee is more realistic, Whilce just has more of a comic feel to it.
Besides Jim Lee, this artist is the only guy that can make a great looking gambit
Clay mann is another one that does a great gambit, you should check it out
Salvador Larroca (X-Treme X-Men)
David Marquez (X-Men: Gold #30)
Giuseppe Camuncoli (Daken: Dark Wolverine)
Adi Granov (Astonishing X-Men - Variant Cover)
Jim Lee (X-Men 90s)
AKOM (X-Men: The Animated Series)
Naoto Kuroshima (Marvel vs. Capcom)
Clay Mann (Gambit 2012)
III/III Agreed! Art Thibert early 90s also
He made the best X-Men, in my opinion, hands down.
This man got me into comics. Long ago when you could buy comics in a grocery store. I saw his work in Uncanny X-Men and I was hooked from then on. Thank You Mr. Portacio. You opens up a whole new world for me.
Whilce Portacio is a genius is his own style of drawing, not only that he is the co-creator of Bishop of X-Men and Wetworks
His Wetworks art was amazing and i remember how pissed i was when he left.
Whilce is so awesome. I fell in love with his work when I was a teenager, back during his Punisher days. Followed him to Xfactor and on up to Image. The man is a legend!
Thanks for posting this =)
One of Whilce Portacio's notable work is that he co created the character Bishop of X-Men
the first song is:
Final Fantasy X - Suteki Da Ne (Remix) (prod. by EarlJam)
you can thank me later!
Afro thank you
so much energy in his lines... brilliant!
love watching these!
he originally just a comic book inker. he wasnt accepted as a artist until years later. so thats probably why. he isnt my favorite artist either, but he is on eof the top for sure. He has given so much to the comic book industry in so many ways
One of my faves drawing my 1st fave character! Thanks so much for posting! :)
This is awesome and the music go's with it perfectly love it.
it's a cover instrumental of Suteki Da Ne from Final fantasy 10. marvellous
I love this Guy's work
I really like the almost gestural energy to his drawings. And his hatching and cross-hatching looks awesome!
That was awesome!
I would love to get a scan of that peace and color it!!
Me too
this is awesome!
His line work ♥
Epic music! love how calm it is :)
Great work!
wow just wow i mean like i used to draw really good and then is stopped and then i come back to see some of the old vids i used to watch and BAM im back into drawing! these vids are really good bro!
Funny I was on his blogspot and google image searchin Whilce's work just a day or two ago. He's a great artist.
THAT WAS AMAZING!
Gambit is my favorite comic book hero ever.
As an artist myself, I can tell you what you don't see here. You don't see the years and untold hours of him drawing clothes, shoes, buildings, spheres, cubes, perspective, lighting work, etc. It really takes a ton of practice to work on lighting and how things reflect, absorb, etc. Once you have a solid foundation and learn the rules...you can bend the rules, form your style. The quick work he does here is muscle memory. Visualization was complete before the artwork started as well.
That smile.
so glad this is real time :D
looking forward 2 the torso tut
Epic!
I was at Comic-Con this year. I was at his table and my friend got a awesome Spider-Man from him.
Way to bring in Final Fantasy music~ Best song ever.
Gambit is my fav
Suteki Dane R-R-R-R-REMIX!!
The first song is FF X Rikki - Suteki Dane is the song's name but it's been remixed (obviously)
I don't know who remixed it though.
Faber-Castell Pitt artist pens - Highly Recommended!
whilce is a beast.
This is the man that inked Jim Lee to fame. I still have the old alpha flight issues!
Isnt that the creepy smile guy? LOL Bloody legend
That is one brave man.
Whilce Portacio is very good!!
HOLY CRAP! 1st favorite XMEN. this rules! CAJUN FOR LIFE!
best 11 minutes of my life, ever
cool drawing, maybe one I will get back into comic drawing...
suteki da ne (final fantasy x Song covered ) in background Is something
whenever im sitting at the booth watching my uncle draw i usually see him drawing batman or something else but i wasnt probally their at that time to see him draw that but that is pretty good very well drawn like all of his other work ;)
miLLy the B jr. he's your uncle?!?!?!
great, gambit was always my favorite , since his first solo book, and he helped me identity my nationality, and that i was in the wrong place. great pencil in lol
I LOVE this guys work, I first saw his style in STONE and Uncanny X men when the Hellfire club was killed off.
Really cool to see his work and how he creates it!
But photography wise, it'd be better to have the video centered on the whole piece instead of zooming in to what he's doing so close that we can't even tell what part of the pic it is.
He ACEed the job
yeah thanks for keeping up with the conversation. someone already told me.
Gambit my life
There's a link in the description. Ya know if ya haven't looked already
i dont know the fineliners name, but the last two is: faber castell Pitt artist pen, and Copic marker Wide
by the way ChrisWilsonManga and drgnzadiel101 why are on this video if he's not your favorite? It's no wonder why Whilce is not getting much credit and recognition he truly deserves, Whilce's style is unique on it's own and contributed to the comic book industry, same with every artist's,
god i wish i could understand comic style shading with black. I get it's shadow, but it's like weirdly contrasted dark shadow. Any time i try to do it it just looks wrong. It seems like a lot of times artists will put shadows where they don't even make sense, just because it looks cool. I think that partially leads to my problem of not understanding it.
+TXF It's definitely a style choice, but it's a smart one. If you don't feel comfortable with that though, you could always substitute with hatching/cross-hatching
***** Knowing what it's called will help, thanks. Now I can google around a bit.
Yeah, course! Have fun with it!
It goes back decades to when blacks were printed as blue with black shadows. Originally, Spider-Man's costume was red and black.
Gawd... I love the way they do wrinkles... in clothes... I don't know why...
ok the original version of this song is called Suteki Da Ne from final fantasy x. I tried looking for this version of the song but i couldn't find it. sorry! lol. but at least you know the name of the original song now :D
hey when is the next mail video coming
Awh Man I love this, It's shaded so beautifully. To top it off, Gambit is my favourite of the X-Men~! Say Evan, who's your favourite X-Men character?
OMG It's a remix version of suteki da ne from FF 10 :O
Please do a drawing tutorial on how to draw jin :D
Was thinking the same thing. These vids are great but I want more vids from Evan...
hey Evan can you show more sdcc vids, and can you also show us what you saw and did
He's making the DreamWorks face.
I just wanna suggest a video, how about a video on how to draw a character from hetalia like Germany or Russia
When is he going to upload videos of himself drawing again?
I think it's a remix of the theme from Hero. Second is a beat from a Big L song.
hey do you think you could do a tutorial on how to draw Crona and Ragnarock from soul eater?
What song is that? Its so dope!
Whats the name of the song, it sounds epic
thanks you are pretty awesome to help me like this. I will find this and i will not let your efforts go in vain.
Please do a drawing tutorial on how to draw jin from tekken :D
i'd like to know what kind of pen hes using.
I'm not entirely sure...but im pretty sure its a remix of a song from the Final Fantasy X soundtrack. i would do research on it and get back to you as soon as i find the song
Gambit is a really cool X-men Character! He's one of my favorites! :D
Damn good. Wish I could draw that good. I have been drawing for over half my life and still yet it's hard for me to come up with the correct form of a character. It's something I am still working on. I do have an art video, you should check it out.

Hey nice vid. Can u tell me hu the mUsic artist is.
Could you buy these pictures
Well, as much information that is out now, there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Resources are crazy now...or should I say access? Growing up, it was studying actual comics, going to the library, it could be expensive and exhausting. Now, you can jump on the net and gather collections of work to study. A good source is (comic art community (.) c-o-m) Tons of comic art to look at and study.
The first song, please someone tell me what it is!
Check out some of my cartoons! Please leave a comment!
Does anyone knows the name of the music from 00:08 to 04:00 ?
