I find it kinda odd and disturbing that Mario casually drowns in Lava in SMS instead of burning his butt
The burning goo is lava and I think Mario sunshine have the worst lava in the series cuz that shit is easy combo damage compared to 64, galaxy, and odyssey at least lava gives you a bunch of Height to make a recovery and yeah 64 have poor control to make a recovery. Basically in sunshine you get F all for height and you go in a fixed direction and basically if you in a large pool of burning goo you would die instantly

I love how in the original Famicom game of Super Mario Bros., as well as Super Mario Bros. 2, the lava just acts like a bottomless pit since Mario falls straight down them, same in Super Mario Land, whereas Super Mario World on the Super Famciom he just kinda sinks, same thing happens in the Super Mario Collection version SMB, and SMB2. XD (And of course, Super Mario USA has no lava because the original Japanese game, Yume Koujou: Doki Doki Panic (or Dream Factory: Thump Thump Panic) didn't have any.)
In Super Mario Bros, the lava is just colored water when you look at it from a technical perspective.
