A small tribute to Darwin Ortiz | Legendary card magician

When I was 14, I started learning magic from saving up lunch money to secretly purchase magic instructional VHS. The first VHS I bought was “CardShark. Vol.2” by a legendary card magician Darwin Ortiz.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Ortiz himself, but if I could, I’d def let him know he got my lunch money 😅.
From his top student Jason Ladanye, the magic world learned that Darwin had passed away last Friday Oct.13th, the next night, I was honored to be invited to present my magic for Kita Events Northwest's 10th anniversary. Krista (owner) talked about how growing up in the foster system was life changing for her. And that night, the fundraiser was to benefit Treehouse , a non-profit serving youth in foster care.
Krista never forgot those who helped her along the way, I thought it would make perfect sense to present a trick from Darwin. Without him generously sharing his magic with thousands and thousands of young magicians like myself, I wouldn’t be here today

Discovering Darwin's books are what elevated my card magic more than anything else. I too regularly perform New Hitchcock Aces and there are more routines from Cardshark in my repertoire than any other book.
