Because Laviolette is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. A successful regular season coach who benefitted from a magical run by a rookie goaltender and an upstart opponent in the SCF, whose "go to" scorer was Fernando Pisani. Think about how Hall Of Famer Phil Housley is a member of his coaching staff and somehow Erik Gustafsson is playing over Jones or Ruhwedel.

The Rangers need some magic and some heroics like they had in Games 2 and 3. They can't outright beat the Panthers just playing their game. They need something again like what Goodrow and Lafreniere did then and what Kreider did in Carolina in Game 6. It doesn't matter who it is, it can be Igor getting a shutout. But that's the only thing in my mind that can win them Game 6 or the series.
And yes, I don't know when this "pull the goalie with 3 minutes to go" trend started. I feel like I haven't seen it that much before this season. But I've seen this a lot from many teams now and it seems like it is extremely risky and almost guarantees an ENG. And of course I've seen what the Rangers did, which is scoring after they already allowed an ENG. I haven't liked this pretty much every time I've seen it. This is Game 6, the season is not on the line yet. It's bad, but they are being too desperate and giving the Panthers too much of a chance to just end the game. Mentally, I think it might make a team more relaxed also with an empty net for that long, thinking that they have plenty of time to tie it still, while the more likely thing is that the other team has plenty of time to score the ENG.

Hey Jon been a loyal listener have not missed an episode last year. This is def my favorite rangers podcast. Wondering a few things … I know trouba gets a lot of hate, personally I like him. He has his flaws for sure but as we both know trouba has a ton of blocked shots. Do you think if he was with miller last night he would have blocked that shot that snuck by Igor… after all Schneider ( who I am a huge fan of as well excellent future! ) is still young and trouba may have positioned him self better to block the shot ? Secondly what are your thoughts if moving Krieder to the second line ( technically our first line lol) with laf & tro …) since the second line is taking all the shots could it be wise to have him there. Thanks again love all your content. Normally I just listen in the car so this is my first video I watched lol

If you do it with over 2 minutes, then you know that if you don't lose possession you are going to get a couple real chances at the net. So that is why most NHL Coaches do it that way! And a coach who's in love with a defenseman who gave the puck away FOUR times in the first period, alone. Who is really coaching this team? Is it that midget Chris Drury a la Glen Sather? If not, somebody explain how Zac Jones and/or Chad Ruhwedel have yet to play over Erik Gustafsson, who I view as the worst Rangers d-man dressed for the playoffs since Bruce Driver in 1996. 1) Why was Blake Wheeler on the ice in game 4? Old, not great during the regular season, slow, now coming off a really bad injury, rusty and hasn’t played in months, and the game you bring him back in is game 4 of the ECF? They deserve to lose just bc of that. 2)Nobody is really talking about out the real turning point of the game. It’s when the Rangers were on the power play and Panthers take another penalty which would of made it a 5 on 3 PowerPlay with a very good chance of the Rangers scoring and getting their PowerPlay out of a funk and most importantly, go up 2-0. However, Erik Gustafsson takes a horrible penalty “protecting” Shesterkin. That is a horrible undisciplined penalty which could have swung the whole momentum and outcome of the game. P.S. I said it last year on this channel. Panarin is soft, and no where to be found in the big moments. If I have to see him wiff on another puck I’m gonna loose it. Every time he goes to pass or shoot the puck he misses and he his horrible under pressure. Panarin is at his best with time and space which you’re not getting that against the Panthers. First order of business this summer: Trade 93 to whoever can afford his overpriced salary and take whatever you can get for him. Then look for a twentysomething winger, preferably big, fast and North America-trained and send the bagel boy packing. Wennberg can sign with Västra Frölunda and Jupiter Jack can sign a multi-year deal with some basement dweller like San Jose. If I were Kaapo Kakko, I'd request a trade before the draft. Some rebuilding team will be more than happy to give him PP and PK responsibility. Then find out what it will take to snatch 87 from Pittsburgh. He's got two strong years left in the tank and even at 37 is a significant upgrade over the half Swede.

@@humanbeing2420 Messier melted down defensively during Game Four of the second round series in Pittsburgh, 1992. The Rangers were up 2-1 in the series and had a lead going into the third and let it all slip away. There was no way they were going to lose to Boston or Chicago that year. The Stanley Cup was theirs, but then Francis and Jagr took over the series, thanks in part to the poor play of No. 11.

Sure, he was a great leader, and capable of doing great things, but more often than not he failed to bring the team a championship.
