I've been rewatching some of these top 8 videos and I think probably this one holds up the best to the present day. Certainly the top 3 is still intact and likely the top 5. Pretty impressive considering some really absurd cards got printed for Blue since then, like Cruise, Dig, Narset, Paradoxical Outcome and Urza.
I agree. I'd love to see these lists revisited every 5 years. These lists have changed so much since these videos. There have been so many broken spells with each passing year. Jace is top 8 here and wouldnt even make top 20 blue as of the time i'm typing this comment.
Top 8 Auras (or local enchantments). I expect this to be a challenge because it is considered one of the worst card types, setting yourself up for getting 2 for 1d, but which aura's get around their inherent drawback the best or are just so good that you are willing to risk it. My list would likely have Faith's Fetters and Rancor on it just off the top of my head.
Top 8 blue cards: 1) Ancestral recall 2) Force of will 3) Time walk 4) Tinker 5) Brainstorm (Could honestly be number 3) 6) Time twister 7) Jace, TMS 8) Mana drain Sorry mystical tutor, gifts ungiven, ponder, mental misstep, merchant scroll and all the others :) And of course the power3: Snapcaster, clique and delver of secrets Edit: Forgot mind's desire and frantic search...also high tide. Blue is pretty good, and the most fun color in magic :) If it was a historical top list, morphling should be there. For several years morphling *WAS* the colour blue.
i going to be honest I would love to see a 9-16 list or top 8 green. I have no idea whats awese in green besides Wild Nacatle, Glimps and well everything in elf combo . goyf and vengevine
Underdog cards would be great. Tarmogoyf would probably top that list. When it first came out, nobody noticed... Dream Halls was a pretty big underdog when it came out. In fact, I remember the article in Inquest naming it the worst card in Stronghold. A few months later they had to print an article about the "worst" cards to ever get banned. :P
@TheNethertyp He meant that he force of will'd his opponents spell, then force of will'd his previous force of will while on the stack, and then mana drained that last force of will, to give him 5 mana the next upkeep, while still countering his opponents spell. Obviously because, as LSV said himself, the opponents spell cost less than the 5 cmc, so simply mana draining it wouldn't suffice.
@BobReefer Do you even know what Windfall is? That card got banned in standard. Jace didn't. Pretty sure cards that get banned are 'better' than cards that don't.
My worst memory of magic: I was just beginning the game and I was going through a pile of bulk cards that someone had just sold (their collection, I assume) to the shop I played in. Lo and behold, I find a mana drain. Not know what it is, I mutter something like, "this seems pretty cool," and put it back. Behind it were three more. Every card in that box was being sold for a quarter.
No surprise that Timetwister is not on this list. I still can't figure out why Timetwister is considered a Power 9 card, why it's restricted, and even why it's so valuable. I'm surprised Jace is considered better than Windfall, though. Windfall was one of the key cards in a dominant deck for quite some time.
@RedRyanSox This one is good. (Top 8 decks). There's a lot of powerful classic decks people have forgotten, and some that just need recognition. Plus it'd be a great walk down memory lane. :D
I think if you do "top 8 green cards", you'll have to mention Exploration, Tarmogoyf, Wild Nacatl, Life from the Loam, and Terravore. Those are just format defining green cards.
@wiredspider Well to be fair that is the buying price so it would be around $6 back in the day. Which makes me wonder if we were all stupid enough to think that it wasn't all that good.
Yah I know, I love Time Spiral! Its free to cast, you get all your cards back, and you get a new hand! It should have had at least an honorable mention in my opinion. Heck, they named a whole expansion after it for Pete's sake!
or just use gifts to unburial rites and a bomb, they both go to grave and you can flashback the bomb. Its funny how they fail to mention one of the most popular gifts combos in thr rites package.
i've had my playset of force of will since alliances came out, and they're still in mint condition, which one of them is signed by Bob Maher Jr. after he won PT Chicago in 1999 when he cast Force to win game 5 against brian davis, it's valued at 300 dollars
Interesting that Cryptic Command didn't get an honorable mention. Honestly, I don't think it was as good as people said it was. It was just that the format was so creature-heavy that tapping down a bunch of dudes was a good alternate to Dismiss. Next week, how about top 8 cards that got dismissed at first look? Things like Jitte and Tarmogoyf or Spectral Procession, just to name a few.
@TheNethertyp So, his opponent has Gifts Ungiven on the stack. LSV plays Force of Will targeting Gifts Ungiven and Mana Drains it. This will give him 5 colorless mana during his next precombat main phase. He then Force of Wills the Gifts Ungiven. Basically, worst Seething Song ever.
@ThePacificCrossing I already got it bro, they are: Aven Trooper Goblin Firebug Ignoble Soldier Jandor's Ring Kasimir the Lone Wolf Juju Bubble Mindless Null Obelisk of Undoing
I wish there were more Vintage Magic players in Newport Beach. Although it is kind of funny when an arrogant legacy player wants to play anyway and get's killed on turn one by Dredge.
MythicM I just use Bridge from Below with sacrificing Narcomoeba's and Bloodghast's constantly. On average I'll have about 60 3/3 zombies with haste by turn 3.
oath of druids, fastbond, hermit druid, surival of the fittest, tooth and nail, life from the loam... Tarmagoyf might get a mention because green is so shallow when it comes to busted cards, no yawgmoth's will for green
top 8 cards that you originally thought were good, but turned out to be horrible. Alternatively, top 8 cards that you thought were bad, but turned out to be great.
top 8 jankiest decks that performed well at the professional level
I've been rewatching some of these top 8 videos and I think probably this one holds up the best to the present day. Certainly the top 3 is still intact and likely the top 5. 7) Jace, TMS
8) Mana drain
Sorry mystical tutor, gifts ungiven, ponder, mental misstep, merchant scroll and all the others :)
And of course the power3: Snapcaster, clique and delver of secrets

@worldslayer I don't play standard anymore, purely EDH and Legacy. I played all the caw-blade decks, and it just got old.
@JManJoe does Gabe make the list?
What about Timetwister? I really mentioned to see it on this list.
can't I cast tinker if I don't have a artifact in game to sacrifice?
Gotta love all the old and insanely broken cards
Hey where's was intuition??? Love that card
hey how did LSV do in Dallas????
i going to be honest
I would love to see a 9-16 list
or top 8 green. I have no idea whats awese in green besides Wild Nacatle, Glimps and well everything in elf combo . goyf and vengevine

No mention of Timetwister?
Why no Timetwister?
can somebody please explain to me, what LSV said in 4:30-5:00?
I love that they ate crow once they did the top 8 green cards. And rightfully apologized. =)
@the77thtrombone he said that counterbalance is on the downswing not the format.
@TheNethertyp He meant that he force of will'd his opponents spell, then force of will'd his previous force of will while on the stack, and then mana drained that last force of will, to give him 5 mana the next upkeep, while still countering his opponents spell. top 8 draft archetypes from their draft formats?
gotta love the lsv sound effects!
No surprise that Timetwister is not on this list. I still can't figure out why Timetwister is considered a Power 9 card, why it's restricted, and even why it's so valuable. @Nightwing690
By definition, a signed card cannot be classified as in "mint" condition.
@JManJoe with #1 being Gabe Walls? ;D
Which magic hall of famer would win
when i first saw time walk my jaw dropped i knew it would be on here
Can we go back to a time where inkmouth nexus what's 12 dollars
you guys are awsome
@RedRyanSox This one is good. (Top 8 decks). There's a lot of powerful classic decks people have forgotten, and some that just need recognition. Plus it'd be a great walk down memory lane. :D
@Burningdemon23 top 8 reasons why your $10 homebrew jank gets repeatedly stomped by cawblade at fnm every week?
I know! How did that not make it?!
Somewhere along the way I fell in love with LSV :s
how about top 8 gold cards?
Top 8 colours: 8) Black, 1-7) Blue. So good.
agreed with LSV here 100%
I think if you do "top 8 green cards", you'll have to mention Exploration, Tarmogoyf, Wild Nacatl, Life from the Loam, and Terravore. Those are just format defining green cards.
i would actually really like to see 9-16 blue cards :P
every time the phone rings i think its mine XD
top 8 underdog cards, cards that initially saw no play because they looked terrible but ended up doing broken things.
YAYYY, Top 8 blueee
@wiredspider
Well to be fair that is the buying price so it would be around $6 back in the day. Which makes me wonder if we were all stupid enough to think that it wasn't all that good.

ernest newberry how are they supposed to know that unburial rites would be printed?
Nasst True, didn't realize the video was that old. Rites was printed like 5 months later.
@drummerboysareawesom combo decks would rule those formats
Top 20 Blue cards?
i've had my playset of force of will since alliances came out, and they're still in mint condition, which one of them is signed by Bob Maher Jr. after he won PT Chicago in 1999 when he cast Force to win game 5 against brian davis, it's valued at 300 dollars
I havent finish watching the video and I already know Force of Will is number 1
top 8 best top decks!
I actually would like to see 9-16. Top 8 was pretty easy. Next 8 requires a little more thought.
Things like Jitte and Tarmogoyf or Spectral Procession, just to name a few.
the top video in the Suggestions on the right is a video called "Man Boobs Surgery"
Top 8 decks ever
@TheNethertyp So, his opponent has Gifts Ungiven on the stack. LSV plays Force of Will targeting Gifts Ungiven and Mana Drains it. This will give him 5 colorless mana during his next precombat main phase. He then Force of Wills the Gifts Ungiven.
Basically, worst Seething Song ever.
How bout 8 Categories of top 8 Blue cards?
1. Counterspells
2. Card Drawing
3. Creatures
4. Enchantments (non Aura)
5. Bounce Spells
6. Library Manipulation/Search
7. Steal Effects (auras or things like desertion/treachery)
8. Non-blue "Blue Cards" (academy etc.)
Blue is obviously the best color in magic.
top 8 combos in all formats so multiple lists
It isn't backbreaking. What it does for you it does your foe.
I was hoping to see snapcaster...

@ThePacificCrossing I already got it bro, they are:

Goblin Firebug
Ignoble Soldier
Jandor's Ring
Kasimir the Lone Wolf
Juju Bubble
Mindless Null
Obelisk of Undoing
I wish there were more Vintage Magic players in Newport Beach. Although it is kind of funny when an arrogant legacy player wants to play anyway and get's killed on turn one by Dredge.
Icorhid is such my favorite creature.
MythicM It's strange, out of all the dredge games I've played, I still haven't had a use for Ichorid yet, even though I have two in the deck.
What about Ichorid + bridge from below?
MythicM I just use Bridge from Below with sacrificing Narcomoeba's and Bloodghast's constantly. On average I'll have about 60 3/3 zombies with haste by turn 3.
+Jessica Zane OP plz nerf
I love how trying to kill your opponent as quickly as possible is now..."dishonest" 0_o
