A friend of my brother's had or was renting the original for PlayStation way back, and I remember being quite intrigued with it as I would around the same time get into other adventure games like the Monkey Island series and even Discworld, as the same friend had the second title on PlayStation. Funnily enough, the game occupied a corner of my mind so much that I was having dreams of the game for many years after seeing it. When I finally got to play the game, it was the DS version of the Director's Cut. And it was pretty fun, but definitely lacking some appeal due to the fact that they apparently had to remove the voice acting for space reasons, which meant the game was more like an early 90s adventure game with no voice over. Still, it was a fun little distraction during a big move between homes I had, but somehow, the game cartridge vanished at some point after the move, never to turn up again. Curious to see how the upcoming Reforged remaster will turn out, as it apparently will be based on the original game while including some new elements that weren't possible back in the 1996 release of the game.
So at the beginning of the video, my memory of playing the game felt more like a fever dream than reality, it kinda felt familiar but not quite. Then you got to the part where you mentioned the directors cut being on Android and it all came back to me. I did play it, and actually finish the game, on my phone! Thanks for resurrecting those memories my friend 😊
This game really really really challenged my English language skills back around 1999-2000. I was around 10 years old and language comprehension was more challenging than the puzzle. Screw Duolingo. This game was the English Cambridge test în est europe in the 90s. That goat puzzle still got me using the dirty little helper, though.
Screw Duolingo indeed 😃 Thanks for sharing your experience with us, I always love to hear the perspectives of others vis-a-vis classics of my younger years. I can’t really remember how old I was when I first played it, but it was somewhere between 14 and 18 😁 that's the best I can do.
Glad you enjoyed it 😃 I'm also exaggerating for comedic purposes, I've heard female smokers with much lower voices, but could not resist the appeal of making a "stereotypical French" joke 😁🥐
Thank you soo much .. I played it also 10 years or so ago but never ended it. (I died too many times).. So now I can finaly finish the game : in the directors cut :-)3
Interesting to see the changes they made. If I had to choose I guess I'd play the "modern", more straightforward version, mostly because of lack of time but I can definitely see the appeal of the original game.
We'll have to also see what happens in the upcoming announced Reforged version, that will have super high res visuals and hopefully better sound quality 😆 thanks for watching!
The first slider puzzles are kinda basic, I'll give you that, but I enjoyed how some of the other puzzles were modified, for instance the lens+church one was cool as well as the Bible quotes one. The one in the well did feel like busy work but considerably better than the busy work caused by the mazes in Fate of Atlantis 😅 And look, maybe the upcoming Reforged will explain how she got into the museum, I feel a Nico-centered prequel might be required to also find out how she got the gear and skill to pull off that "heist"🥷
Imo, you should play the original, they cut puzzles, dialogue and also the death mechanic. The new content in dc really adds nothing relatively big in the main story and it feels a bit out of place. Also, the character portraits are a big turn off, at least for me. Still, they both add their own flare, the original has all the unchanged content but you might struggle with the low resolution graphics while the dc has more modern mechanics that might be more appealing to a new audience.
Dont know why people have a problem with dying in adventure games. Think its just fun. The dead ends were horrible in old sierra games but had no problems with the deaths.
There can be objective reasons, like losing progress, for instance, or whether or not one considers you should be able to die in a particular adventure game because of the world, theme, or story. I also consider it's one of those subjective things that maybe doesn't need a lot of scrutiny or over-analysis, although I'm sure I could write quite the dissertation on it if I wanted. Sometimes you just like or don't like things because you just do or don't.
Ron Gilbert is very against deaths, so I will get behind his idea cause he's probably right. There's no reason for deaths to be in a graphics adventure or puzzles game. It just doesn't add anything to the genre. I'd say it takes away from the experience rather. Also Lucas Arts games made sure that you can't eat a pie you'll need later in the story not knowing why in hell you can't progress, for example.

Moue is one of my fave characters ever 😅
Trying to wake up a dead dude by ordering him to stop holding his breath is pretty S-tier, indeed 😂

Maybe they explain where Nico got her 🥷ninja cat burglar suit, as well as her very particular set of skills😁
Very cool video, I'm curious to see the future changes that Revolution Software will implement in the Reforged version planned for this year
Am curious to see if maybe they explain how Nico ninja-ed her way into the museum 🥷 Thanks for watching and commenting! 😃
The scene at 12:00 is engrained into my generation's gaming culture in Portugal. It was used as a cutaway card for a popular gaming TV show
That's an interesting piece of trivia to know :) 😊

Great video. I've played it in french, and was not aware about Nicole voice.

Nice roundup, thanks.
I'm not sure how I feel about Reforged. It looks great, but I don't think I can justify buying the same game a third time over!
Very valid!

Go for it! Thanks for watching 😃

@@StefaNonsense Good to know!
I thought the Director's Cut was well worth playing it again. Not sure about Reforged yet, but I'm really looking forward to Parzival’s Stone.
The DC is definitely not bad or objectively inferior game to the original, it's simply different.
now do the original vs director's cut vs reforged
god... I remember playing this one... don't remember if I ever finished it...
I think you would've remembered finishing it tbh 😃 But hey, it's available on GOG, just wait for a sale and get both cheap 😁
Loved this game. Mixed feelings on the DC. Waaaay too many DS puzzles and not enough Nico in a burglar outfit.

How strange, the Spanish dubbing sounds better quality than the original, hahaha
Es posible
Play the original. The "Directors Cut" version removes stuff.
For some, sure. Others will prefer the Director's Cut.
The original is also better because it used to have more useless interaction options with the ambience. It helps to really immerse

simple answer: skip both and just go with Reforged edition
Mayhaps
No but we need Reforged
the original. end of story
Русский?)
Nop, Romanian.
@@StefaNonsense cool video, pal. Deserves way more views.
