This video came at the right time. I read 11 books in January, 4 in February and haven't read anything since then. I've tried picking up a few books but not able to get into any of them. This happens to me every year where I read a lot and want to read everything at one point and then after a while not read anything at all for an extended period of time. I'm going through that phase again right now. Thanks so much for the recommendations Hannah ❤
She has made such videos in past as well I have had 20 plus such slumps in last 20 yrs I began reading (apart from academic/text books) at the age of 11-12 So…20 yrs of reading. Each year I get slump Some stayed for couples of yrs of not reading anything. 👽 It gets fixed itself
Just read Piranesi - Susanna Clarke and highly recommend to get out of a reading slump!! It's short, hooks you right away and is just unlike anything I've ever read before. Fantastical mystery and just so fun.
the book leo did a video that was like "this vlog doesn't end until i rate a book 5 stars" when she was in a slump and it was so fun seeing the books she picked up and what she liked/not liked about the books, it would be fun to see you do that :)
I think Haley Pham did that too but she ended up getting a 5 star read right away and decided to keep reading more and ended with two 5 star reads it was actually amazing
yes, read legendborn! Like you said it has some of the most beloved tropes, but they are done exceptionally well and the book also talks brilliantly about some deeper themes that I don’t usually see in YA. Also, Selwyn Kane… that’s a very important reason for picking up the book
I just finished LegendBorn and it was so good!!!! It was so fun yet to sad, and the overall story I was so invested in. I think the writer is so talented and the way she ties in real world events into her story is immaculate. If anyone loved Ninth House, they kinda have similar vibes
I highly recommend the books "Demon copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver and "in memoriam" by Alice Winn. Two great books that made me feel a lot of emotions. Especially "in memoriam" was incredibly good (and sad) and one of my new favorite books of all time
oh my god i've just started reading In Memoriam this week and I'm obsessed. I'm about 130 pages in and I'm already so attached to the characters that I just KNOW I'll cry. And the writing style is so beautiful it should be illegal
omg I feel like everyone has been in a mega reading slump this year. the last book I read was also mid-february, I've only read 4 books this year too, and the next book that I'm picking up and hoping it would get me out of the slump is legendborn as well. hope this works out for the both of us 🥲
reading the percy jackson series got me out of my most recent slump! i think middle grade / ya series are what help me the most bc the plots are fast and exciting and they’re usually quick to read

As a philosophy major, I read so. many. books. So many dense philosophical pieces that take me hours to read through 7 pages. I got so burnt out for reading, I hadn't been reading any fiction, which I used to love to do. This video is coming at a perfect time, since I'm trying to curate a list of books I will read during the summer when I'm not being bogged down by academic papers. Thanks, Hannah.

@@subhranilghosh8028 for stoicism I really love Seneca and Diogenes Laertius!! Very good portrayals of stoicism that (at least for seneca) is a bit more applicable to our day to day lives and has more practicality to it. The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee is a great series to get one out of a reading slump. Interesting -- but easy to comprehend-- worldbuilding/setting, amazing cast of characters/relationships/dynamics, and a fast-paced, attention-grabbing plot. In my opinion, the series was well worth the hype, and the books were certainly hyper-fixations for me. There is a lot of amazing fanart for the series out there and I flooded my twitter TL and tumblr dash with it all as I was reading and becoming more and more obsessed lol
Boy did you nail it - I always went down a fanfic spiral when I was feeling depressed, and it never really felt good in the end. I am pushing through my slump with short translated works by women. Cold Nights of Childhood by Tezer Ozlu was fjdgaakahd STUNNING. Maybe would describe it as a distant relative of The Bell Jar. My next is Nefando by Monica Ojeda - about 6 people who get caught up in a horror-core cult video game?! Yes. Yes. Yes. Good luck getting out of your slump - thanks for sharing your recs!

A common complaint I’ve been seeing amongst booktubers this year is their lack of 5 star reads! You’re I think the 4th or 5th creator who has said this in the last month. Wonder why!
For me, what got me out of the worst reading slump I ever had (post-university when I finally had time to rediscover my hobbies) was to reread some of the books that made me love reading in the first place - so I went back to the children's books I loved as a kid. I think it worked because they are by nature, easy to read, nice and short, fun and lighthearted, full of hope and magic and all the things we miss as adults. It also made me treasure these books all over again, particularly classics such as the Secret Garden, Redwall, Wind in the Willows, Winnie the Pooh, Malory Towers. Adult fiction can be so dark and high stakes, reading is ultimately supposed to be fun!
Someone FINALLY mentions Enid Blyton’s books! My favourite work of hers is St Clare’s! I’ve read Malory Towers (the first six), but I didn’t like them as much as St Clare’s
I don't know if you'll see this, Hannah but I thought I'll mention a few books that have a high potential to end reading slumps. These are only the tip of the iceberg because my extended list would be endless. 1) The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See. 2) Minor Detail by Adania Shibli. 3) Four Treasures of the Sky by Jenny Tinhgui Zhang. 4) The Mountains Sing by Nguyen Phan Que Mai. 5) The Finlay Donovan series by Elle Cosimano. Hope you have a lovely time conquering your slump with these incredible books.
I read *sprits to check my storygraph stats* about 17 books in January and 7 in February and haven’t picked up a book since. Well I tried but wasn’t feeling it. Mind you I only tracked about 24 book the entirety of 2023. I don’t normally read that many books but started reading ipb so yeah 😂 so my slump is probably from having read a bit to much a bit to fast 😂
This has actually been the best reading year, so far, for me since maybe...2018? I used to only read books if I could finish them in one sitting. But this year I've made it a goal to read at least an hour a day (usually right before bed) everyday and it has worked wonders for me. I'm currently on my 19th book! I hope you beat your reading slump soon! 😊
I just read the Winternight trilogy for the first time and I really do think you would love these books. They're some of my all time favorites now and some of the best pieces of storytelling out there.
Reading the Harry Potter books and the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is what put me in a reading slump. I just… I never recovered. Ever since then I’ve been looking for something that can compare or is at least on par with either of them.
I NEED to get to Legendborn too! I have this thing with books where I’m really excited to read them but put them off because I’m worried I won’t like them. I’m working through that mental block because I don’t want to deprive myself of happiness.
I was just thinking about this! All I've read and enjoyed this year is a lot of Manga. I only read one traditional novel in January the rest was just manga. I'm trying to read another traditional novel and I don't know... I'm currently not experiencing a lot of joy from it. Hopefully I'll figure this out as I go along.
I read legendborn the first book in the series and I really enjoyed it buts it’s really dense and had a complicated fantasy/magic world. It kind of reminds me of the immortal instruments but way better. I don’t know if you will like legendborn. Leigh bardugos the familiar is coming out and you may like that.
It’s not a short book and I haven’t read it but I’ve heard a lot of great things about the will of many it’s a fantasy and I believe it takes place in a school and in some the Roman Empire/ Greek mythology inspired world I read Valerie and her week of wonder it’s a really short gothic story that I would kind of recommend as well, it had interesting elements to it but it didn’t go very deep into the characters feelings etc tho
OMG! Legendborn is my favourite book. Bree is a great main character. She is smart, curious, and kind, in the best way possible. I found the plot incredibly interesting, it’s based off the King Arthur myth and the magic system she uses to bring everything together is also good. And one of the best executed things is Bree’s connection to her heritage and her exploration of family relationships.
A few I highly recommend are Sword of Kaigen, The Fifth Season, Kaikeyi, All My rage, and The Tainted Cup. They are all ones that I think you would love and could be good for getting out of a reading slump. Hope you get over your slump soon!
about not feeling like yourself when you go too long without reading, I relate so hard. I start feeling like I cannot find enjoyment or happiness in anything and get very restless and impatient. So when I know nothing is working, I go to read. Also, reading slumps are hard, I've been in one this year too, luckily it broke in March with the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu.
I on a look out for my kinda weird books too, to avoid slump I take a small break from reading like a day or two n then quickly read something short.. else the gap just gets prolonged into a very loooooooong time
*sitting and waiting patiently for all the videos you mentioned you may/may not do* I'm always super supportive of Bookterneters doing film/tv content since its just storytelling in a different medium so will absolutely watch a video or two (or whatever number) about films/tv shows consumed! Also videos about fanfic...was basically raised on fanfic since there wasn't really any popular queer books/tv shows out there when I was growing up and realizing I was queer so I had to find it myself, so v interested to see what that video is about. Also I find that audiobooks as well as epistolary/multimedia type stuff helps get me out of reading slumps. Makes me really wish that there was lot more non-traditional format books out there cuz I LOVE that sh!t!
i'm also in a reading slump rn and I have read 0 book in 2024 but i've been loving Almond by Won Pyung Sohn and halfway thru it already, this book might be the first book i read this year!!
I was literally just thinking “wow, I could really use a new Hannah video rn..” so huzzah! I understand you have The Bear And The Nightingale trilogy on your list of books to read this year? If it’s any help - those really helped me get out of a slump. Book one can be quite slow, but once you get into it you get properly hooked - at least that’s what I found :,)
I haven't been in a reading slump per se, but most of the books I've picked up this year have been extremely meh, but I just finished reading The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett and it was so good! It's a fantasy murder mystery, and the first death is caused by a tree spontaneously growing from someone's chest. it's the first book I've rated 5 stars this year, and so engaging, I highly recommend it to escape a dull stretch or reading slump :)
I found that being in your book club in Fable pulled me out of my reading slump! We could help you! We'd love having you interact with us and tell us how you feel about the books we read ❤️
I find when I'm in a book reading slump, I switch over to reading manga. Sometimes it really just is a book is taking too long and I need that immediate reward of actually finishing something. I also like to go back to favorite authors or reread favorite books to kickstart my motivation to start new books.
I get into slumps when I go back/ find other hobbies to do. I have no idea why, but it’s like my brain refuses to make up space for books and other hobbies so I’m constantly in a slump.
I've had my eye on a few of these but it's been really hard for me to focus on books in the past 5 years even though I have finished a decent amount of books. Comics/Manga gave me a nice change of pace in between novels. Reading books similar to movies and tv shows I'm watching has helped too, but weirdly enough, listening to white noise and ASMR as I read helped the most. It helped quiet my constant thoughts and the outside world and made me focus on just the book I was reading. Just finished An Education in Malice which I couldn't put down.
Hannah, I highly highly recommend "The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree" by Iranian novelist Shokoofeh Azar. It's set right after the 1979 revolution and it's magical realism, Persian folklore, grief, freedom and politics. Plus, the writing style is so incredibly poetic! I'm sure you'll fall in love 💓
Please read LEGENDBORN as soon as you can!! I'd love to hear your opinion, maybe a reading vlog. As someone who turned into a very picky YA reader in the past few years LEGENDBORN is my favorite YA fantasy right now and got me back into the genre
My tip for getting out of a reading slump are binging short books : - novellas : i recommend The Deep by Rivers Solomon - manga : i started reading Yona based on your recs, i also love spyxfamily and plan to start attack on titan -middle grade books/series And also prioritizing sequels and finish series to feel even more productive! Hope this helps❤️
Legendborn - An actual love triangle like actual? Very fast pace has tournament A very good book boyfriend like...come on Exciting plot twist All the characters are well written
I may be late but if you'd like to try something new, I'd recommend Heaven Official's Blessing by MXTX. I binge-read all 8 books in 10 days and have been thinking about this series all the time. I hope you will get through this reading slump!
I've recently read Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi, and I loved it. Other suggestions: The vanishing half, A thousand ships, Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow, Kids run the show.
Not me commenting that Hannah should read Legendborn and the I get to that part of the video where she says she should finally get around to it. HANNAH READ IT. YOURE GOING TO LOVE IT.
A new book by Holly Jackson? Hell yeah! Hannah, I highly recommend A good girl's guide to murder By Holly Jackson. Such an amazing murder mystery thriller book.

I highly recommend Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher to get out of a reading slump
Noted! Thank you ❤
Have you watched "turtles all the way down" trailer. Hopefully it's as good as the book!!!!
Hannah everytime you posts a new video it's makes my day instantly😀😀
Omg plz plz make a vid of all the movies and series you've watched so far!! Would love some reccs
It’s not a short book and I haven’t read it but I’ve heard a lot of great things about the will of many it’s a fantasy and I believe it takes place in a school and in some the Roman Empire/ Greek mythology inspired world
I read Valerie and her week of wonder it’s a really short gothic story that I would kind of recommend as well, it had interesting elements to it but it didn’t go very deep into the characters feelings etc tho
I think you might like Heaven's official blessings do give it a try
I think you've convinced me to read it! I'm hoping it's the new pick for the book club this month
Heaven's official blessings do give it a try it's soooooo worth it
Oh no😭. Reading slumps really suck and I was in one like this last year. For seven months I couldn't get out of it.
What got you out of it?
Ohh my goddd you are going to read legendborn !!!!
Okay now I am crying
This book is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
A few I highly recommend are Sword of Kaigen, The Fifth Season, Kaikeyi, All My rage, and The Tainted Cup. They are all ones that I think you would love and could be good for getting out of a reading slump. Hope you get over your slump soon!
I have kaikeyi and all my rage on my shelf just waiting to be read.
Im reading Tainted Cup right now and really enjoying it
Please read TGCF by mxtx... it got me out of slump of over 1 year... I have read 26 books since January 😭 it's crazy
about not feeling like yourself when you go too long without reading, I relate so hard. I start feeling like I cannot find enjoyment or happiness in anything and get very restless and impatient. So when I know nothing is working, I go to read.
Also, reading slumps are hard, I've been in one this year too, luckily it broke in March with the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu.
I’m in the same boat this year I’m not really enjoying the books I pick up and idk why. They’re never more than 3,5 stars and it’s bumming me out! 😂
I've not read many books, but my favourite and a series I recommend is His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
I on a look out for my kinda weird books too, to avoid slump I take a small break from reading like a day or two n then quickly read something short.. else the gap just gets prolonged into a very loooooooong time
Thank you for keeping me company with a new video while I cleaned my kitchen. Always love getting a notification! ❤
*sitting and waiting patiently for all the videos you mentioned you may/may not do*
I'm always super supportive of Bookterneters doing film/tv content since its just storytelling in a different medium so will absolutely watch a video or two (or whatever number) about films/tv shows consumed!
Anything by Freida McFadden helps me get out of a reading slump. Something about the familarity and mystery just keeps me reading and wanting more.
Hannah, the book you need is A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal. I promise it will get you out of the slump.
i'm also in a reading slump rn and I have read 0 book in 2024 but i've been loving Almond by Won Pyung Sohn and halfway thru it already, this book might be the first book i read this year!!
I was literally just thinking “wow, I could really use a new Hannah video rn..” so huzzah! I understand you have The Bear And The Nightingale trilogy on your list of books to read this year? If it’s any help - those really helped me get out of a slump. Book one can be quite slow, but once you get into it you get properly hooked - at least that’s what I found :,)
I absolutely looooooved Rouge I think about it constantly
Im literally in a 70% curse where i will get 70% INTO A BOOK and not finish it 😭
Where did you get your earrings pleaase
I haven't been in a reading slump per se, but most of the books I've picked up this year have been extremely meh, but I just finished reading The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett and it was so good! It's a fantasy murder mystery, and the first death is caused by a tree spontaneously growing from someone's chest. it's the first book I've rated 5 stars this year, and so engaging, I highly recommend it to escape a dull stretch or reading slump :)
I'M FINALLY A LIL EARLY. also, HOPE YOU'RE DOING WELL🫶
Are we all in a reading slump right now?
I found that being in your book club in Fable pulled me out of my reading slump! We could help you! We'd love having you interact with us and tell us how you feel about the books we read ❤️
I find when I'm in a book reading slump, I switch over to reading manga. Sometimes it really just is a book is taking too long and I need that immediate reward of actually finishing something. I also like to go back to favorite authors or reread favorite books to kickstart my motivation to start new books.
I'm glad I'm not alone. Life has been rough lately most days I just don't feel like reading.
I get into slumps when I go back/ find other hobbies to do. I have no idea why, but it’s like my brain refuses to make up space for books and other hobbies so I’m constantly in a slump.
yess please make a movies and tv show video, I need recs
Using a reading tracker motivates me to read. It's the dopamine hit when a fill in a box.
This year, I've really only been able to get into books via audio. Physical reading has been so hard for me! So this video is a godsent
Casually pulling out the Lady Macbeth ARC was wild
EDIT: Wait so is the fact that you haven't tried Legendborn yet 😂
Hannah, I highly highly recommend "The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree" by Iranian novelist Shokoofeh Azar. It's set right after the 1979 revolution and it's magical realism, Persian folklore, grief, freedom and politics. Plus, the writing style is so incredibly poetic! I'm sure you'll fall in love 💓
Read anything by MXTX cause it is my current obsession and I need someone to talk to about it😂
Omg I have got into mxtx too! And I have finished all the books and I feel so empty 😭
You’re a spot of joy in my life, which I need right now.
I have just finished Fireborne (and it's absolutely amazing). It has dragon, tournament and really heartbreaking. Maybe you need it 🥰
I also wanna see the reviews of the monthly books you are choosing on FABLE
Please read LEGENDBORN as soon as you can!! I'd love to hear your opinion, maybe a reading vlog. As someone who turned into a very picky YA reader in the past few years LEGENDBORN is my favorite YA fantasy right now and got me back into the genre
READ LEGENDBORN & BLOODMARKED!!! 100% good series
My tip for getting out of a reading slump are binging short books :
- novellas : i recommend The Deep by Rivers Solomon
- manga : i started reading Yona based on your recs, i also love spyxfamily and plan to start attack on titan
-middle grade books/series
And also prioritizing sequels and finish series to feel even more productive!
Hope this helps❤️
Legendborn -
An actual love triangle like actual?
Very fast pace has tournament
A very good book boyfriend like...come on
Exciting plot twist
All the characters are well written
i also need to get myself out of a reading slump, i've only finished 1 book this year
I may be late but if you'd like to try something new, I'd recommend Heaven Official's Blessing by MXTX. I binge-read all 8 books in 10 days and have been thinking about this series all the time. I hope you will get through this reading slump!
aaaahhhh you absolutely have to read legendborn. truly amazing characters, amazing action, and such a well done love triangle
I love Legendborn! It’s such a fun YA story and world. It’s a King Arthur’s round table rewrite.
Legendborn is soooo good!!! 😍
If you like gothic fairy tales, you should check out Angela Carter’s collection, The Bloody Chamber.
I've recently read Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi, and I loved it. Other suggestions: The vanishing half, A thousand ships, Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow, Kids run the show.
Why did I for a split second think you were reading a book called Slump 😭😭😭
Not me commenting that Hannah should read Legendborn and the I get to that part of the video where she says she should finally get around to it. HANNAH READ IT. YOURE GOING TO LOVE IT.
I would literally sell my family for the Lady Macbeth ARC😭😭😭
A new book by Holly Jackson? Hell yeah! Hannah, I highly recommend A good girl's guide to murder By Holly Jackson. Such an amazing murder mystery thriller book.
I hated the book and the movie, but Eileen is a movie on Hulu. If ur interested
