I think the reason so many horrible books blow up on TikTok is because the reader-base is generally younger. When I look back at some of the books I LOVED and would rave about as a 15 year-old, I definitely cringe. Not that younger readers can't have "good" (subjective) tastes, but when you haven't read a ton yet and don't have much to compare things to, and also factor in maturity level, it makes sense that younger readers may enjoy books that older readers may perceive as "poorly written" or cringe-y.
When I was younger, people hyped up Twilight, Fifty Shades, Divergent which are bland and boring. We were no better but didn't have the social media rage to talk about the books very much compared to what teens have now, every social media app is saturated with content.
Yeah i agree, but that doesn't have to be always true. I'm pretty young and i have already read tons of books, even a lot of classics, literary fiction and books for adults. :) i know that it wasn't meant in an offensive way but i just wanted to remind that being young doesn't necessarily mean that you're immature or not capable of judging a book "right". Have a nice day!

I love you for calling out overhyped books. I read percy jackson for the first time this year and holy smokes, it was so good. You are totally right that middle grade series don't have to be dumbed down and readers are smart at that age. That high quality also allows adults to enjoy the series as well which makes for a really fun experience.
@Trinity M As a younger teen I had the same opinion of trashy YA that I do now, so the defense that “but this is how young people talk!!1!” is reductive. Teens can have standards, you know.
I think what makes some MG so good is similar to what makes Pixar movies so good. They can be enjoyed by everyone depending on what your looking for at different times if your life. Perhaps I’m just saying this because I have a pretty deep connection to a MG book due to the time that I origally read it (KOTLC), but I think as of our current time people need to be open to the idea of *E For Everyone* and stop classifying things as “surprisingly adult for a kids show” (cough cough, most peoples opinions on slightly more mature cartoons in recent years). But everyone kept hinting at stuff in the second so i finally caved and read it and i loved it so much more. I feel like she really took criticism and advice and improved a lot. I'm very excited to read the third. As for dumbing down younger audience books. If you have to dumb it down that much than you shouldn't be writing it for that age group OR you don't have a clear enough idea of what you want to write to do it in a way that doesn't insult people
the night circus appreciation i needed it always gets how big problem is the lack of plot but it never was supposed to be so incredibly eventful it has one of the best vibes i have ever felt reading a book
you can 100% judge all of colleen hoover books from slammed. i read It Ends with Us because some of my friends had read it and let’s just say that i now wish i could time travel to change my decision. it was the worst book i read this year, and did a terrible job with the subject matter it tried to tackle. every time i see the cover somewhere i get mad. anyway, great video!!❤
I actually really like the selection. Like subjectively was it good? No. But it was so east to read and I read like each book in like a day. It was just such an easy read and entertaining in my opinion
I read The Night Circus YEARS ago and I have never forgotten that book. I’ve read a lot of these books and agree with where how you tiered them. EXCEPT for Normal People/CWF cuz I enjoyed NP way more than CWF. But that’s why I live your videos because you like what you like and dassit. You’re the best!!
I find it so refreshing to see people who also really like Red White & Royal Blue. I've seen so many people say it's shitty and overhyped, and that it was just kind of an "ohmigod they're gay book" and as a lesbian, I braced myself for a crappy fanservice book for teen girls, only to actually really really like it, for all the reasons you mentioned! I loved their dynamics and they had chemistry, plus I thought it was really funny. And also, I could identify with Alex on a level of personality, he just has a kind of similar personality to me so I thought it was so fun to read. I weirdly never thought about the politics in the book, even though they're a big part, because I'm neither from the UK or America and don't know a lot about their politics, and I never really thought about the more universal stuff. Not in general, I mean relating to the book. I remember it a lot more for the romance and the fun I had reading it than the politics. But hey, I also read the book at 15 years old, you can't judge me for not caring that much about the politics at that point.
Thank you so much for warning your viewers about heavy books. I, a person that's dealing with mental ilnesses, get very easily triggered because of reading about heavier topics than usual, so I really appreciate you putting content warnings in your videos; a lot of other booktubers don't do this.

But everyone kept hinting at stuff in the second so i finally caved and read it and i loved it so much more. I feel like she really took criticism and advice and improved a lot. I'm very excited to read the third.
As for dumbing down younger audience books. If you have to dumb it down that much than you shouldn't be writing it for that age group OR you don't have a clear enough idea of what you want to write to do it in a way that doesn't insult people
Same. ACOTAR got me out of the reading slump! The series was actually good and I like the writing style.
It’s so great to see you active again. I’m glad to see you’re in a better headspace 💕💕💕
the night circus appreciation i needed
it always gets how big problem is the lack of plot
but it never was supposed to be so incredibly eventful
it has one of the best vibes i have ever felt reading a book
Your reaction to popular books is the single thing I trust to bring my joy🙈🕺🏻🤷🏻♀️also I love the tiers it’s so adorable 😂
I know I am late to the party, but "has some prose, but the cons outweigh the prose" is amazing. 3:12
you can 100% judge all of colleen hoover books from slammed. i read It Ends with Us because some of my friends had read it and let’s just say that i now wish i could time travel to change my decision. it was the worst book i read this year, and did a terrible job with the subject matter it tried to tackle. every time i see the cover somewhere i get mad. anyway, great video!!❤
We have extremely different book tastes ahah Beautiful World, Where Are You? was my favorite book this year, so far.
Lmao those tiers are EVERYTHING, love that you used actual Tik tok audios 🤣💗 - ur point about middle grade books was spot on!!
the way i enjoy these 40+ minutes' videos of hannah just going off PLS LIKE THANK YOU QUEEN ILY
I actually really like the selection. Like subjectively was it good? No. But it was so east to read and I read like each book in like a day. It was just such an easy read and entertaining in my opinion
Exact same for me
Just a suggestion, but maybe you could do a tier ranking video for the Shadowhunter books. I'm curious how your opinions have changed over the years!
ohhh that would be fun!!
This would be amazing. 👀
Omg I would die if you did a Percy Jackson re-reading vlog. My middle school self would be thriving
Thank you so much for warning your viewers about heavy books. I, a person that's dealing with mental ilnesses, get very easily triggered because of reading about heavier topics than usual, so I really appreciate you putting content warnings in your videos; a lot of other booktubers don't do this.
I have never watched a full tier ranking video until yours, which just goes to show I could listen to you talk about anything. The wit is elite.
Relieved I'm not the only one for whom SoC is unmatched. Those characters deserved so much better than being haphazardly shoved in the SaB series
not her literally trash talking shatter me. it is so good yes i am 14 so i would probably like it more than her but Aaron warner is my love and i will defend him in every situation
somebody else who likes conversations with friends more than normal people 😫 i love both but convos is so good
AND WHO LIKES DJ AND THE SIX MORE THAN EVELYN HUGO
oh my god PLEASE do a percy jackson reading vlog this series was and still is to this day probably my favorite series that i've ever read (except heartstopper, but those are the only graphic novels i've ever read although i'm about to read this one summer for school), harry potter was a huge phase but then i read percy jackson and it helped me realize all the flaws in the writing in books while also helping me realize flaws in writing in general, it's definitely not perfect but i love it so so much and i'm so excited for the show
Hannah’s reactions are everything, I love her so much
I highly disagreed with some of what you said but I also highly relate to other things you said and overall I just enjoyed hearing you talk about books you love and seeing the passion in your eyes is so heartwarming!
My dark Vanessa was brilliant and I truly loved it. I have read other books based on that subject and couldn’t understand WHY it needed to be written but this book…my favorite of all time. I picked it up based off your recommendation so thank you.
Yes me too! I just finished it a few days ago and really loved it
i would genuinely enjoy like a 2 hour video of your ranting about sjm
4:27 you’re so iconic for this like actually like wtf
I feel like i'm insane because I actually love watching people talk bad about my favorite books because it makes me see things from their perspective and maybe think critically about elements i missed, but Hannah and I have similar tastes, at least from what I've seen :D
NOT THE SELECTION SLANDER... I adore the selection but I actually low key agree with you HOWEVER the third book in the series is better idk i love it
What's up with this Hannah and Howl's earrings combo 😭❤️ do we deserve such Beauty!
I remember starting the night circus because of you and I love it so much honestly you're taste is amazing hannah!!😭💓
4:00 “if I was sooicidal… that would be my laaaaast straw” 😭
Yes!! Please do a reading vlog for Percy Jackson before the show comes out:) I’m planning on rereading it as well
The power you hold being the owner of that sound
We have such different tastes in books. All 4 of my comfort books which I would put in top tier you put in the 3-2 stars categories 😭
The night circus is soooo good I’m so happy to see it hyped like this as it should!
omggg i've been waiting for this!! so excited to watch!
OMG your lip syncing to the TikTok sounds matched literally PERFECTLY!!!!! 😂
The inclusion of the tiktok audios was so good lmaoo
i would love to see more tier rankings from you!! Maybe "Classics", or by genre?
