48:55 "It's been the best three days of my life." Oh my goodness, this was a special one. Very touching when they gave her the illustration of Henry and read the poem.
Yes indeed... Very moving. I've been binge watching TT episodes this past week and this one is perhaps the most touching so far. They connected the present owners of this garden to those who lived here over 1500 years ago on a very emotional level.
How cool that one grave could lead to a small town becoming so important to pre Christian Saxon Archaeology. It was very nice that they provided Pat a picture of her Henry.
I grew up in Raunds, when they were excavating the initial Anglo-Saxon cemetery unearthed during construction of a housing estate. It was colloquially known by everyone as “the dig”. Us kids would wander around and explore what the archaeologists were doing, not really knowing or understanding what was going on, other than digging holes and finding old skeletons. Still, it was exciting and then sad when it all came to an end and they built over it with awful little houses.
It gives significantly more meaning to my older brother's comment " the answer lies in the soil" uttered nearly 65 years ago when I was gardening in Tanzania, East Africa.
One of my favourite TT episodes ever! 🧡 Pat's appreciation for and application of all she learned from Phil and the Team; her labour of love so amply rewarded. Dear Henry, found to be such a special man; his very essence captured by the incomparable Victor's sensitive drawing. 🩵 And the young woman, buried with her dog at her feet.. 🩷 Such a rewarding dig, and not only scientific but emotionally invested and enriching for viewers. Thank you. 🙏
It was like TimeTeam started - viewers writing to the production company that they have found something extraordinary. But this was already several years after the start - judged by Tony's looks and that Pat already was a fan of TimeTeam, so there must have been several episodes been aired.
Best TT EVER! So touching. So real. They brought the people to life again. How wonderful. And the couple, especially the woman, was so invested in "Henry" and wept for him. I wept too. Lovely. 💖 💖 💖
Well, wouldn't you know it - when Tony announced the young lady had been laid to rest with a pup at her feet, somebody snuck in here and started chopping onions...! Such a lovely installment and heartwarming to see the reconstruction portrait done for Pat of her "Henry." Nicely done, one and all!
Wow! This might just be my favorite find yet! I loved the recreation of Henry to gift his finder. The young woman & her dog was sadly sweet. I'd liked to have heard more about the child found too but the rest was pretty amazing!
Wonderful episode with a great story of discovery. I think its great that a fan of the show paid attention to how the team operates, with care and conservation. She applied what she learned and the care allowed so much more to be learned about "Henry". Finding other graves was a bonus. I'd like to see that medieval plow that dug so deep, and the oxen that pulled the thing. Plowing soil is the hardest function in the field for stress on the equipment involved. 5 Stars
Amazing! I was deeply moved. It was almost like a time machine going way back into our past. I feel like we were able to see what life was like 1500 years ago.
What a great episode, very touching & personal the way that the property owner was all in on the history and the actual dig. One of the best ! Well done! ❤
Touching and respectful ❤ They adopted Harry. To add a bit of levity, I'll closely quote 'Pirates of Penzance" General - "I do not know whose ancestors they WERE, but (now) know whose ancestors they they ARE!" Loved this episode 🥴🙊.
Oh I would be all for having my garden dug up to see what interesting things may lie beneath my feet... The only problem is, I do not have a garden and I don't think my landlord would be pleased if I started to dig up the green area that is associated with our apartment complex. 🤣 But if I do get a garden one day, which I do plan on, I would still be all for it.
i wonder how many of the other people living here in this small are thinking they might have someone buried in their garden. This was a pretty good episode.
I can't get enough of Anglo Saxon and Norman lore. Their construction methods and lifestyles just floor me. I would love to live over there and see everything but I'm poor
What year did they say the guy was buried? They're saying something about Pre-Christian, when did England become totally Christian? This was a great episode !!!!
35 years ago they built a new road and roundabout in Bidford upon avon warwickshire. They dug up and destroyed an anglo saxon burial ground and no effort was made to investigate it or protect it by stratford district council
They put everything back as it was, although it will take a season or two for the grass to grow back in evenly over the places where they dug the trenches, even if they place the sods back in. In some episodes property owners have let them tear down garden sheds etc because they were in the way, basically providing the property owners with a free demolition that was going to happen anyway.
if youre northwestern/central European, these are our Ancestors. your history is the most important thing to your future. please stop letting your Countries be overrun with anyone other than people who share our Ancestry.
You mean our ancestors who migrated out of Africa? Feck off with your gaslighted racism. History is nothing more than migration wave after migration wave after migration wave. Stop pretending that migration is suddenly 'bad' because you personally are prejuidiced against people with a different skin colour or culture.
Can you imagine 500 yrs from now when the forgotten bag of bones was rediscovered how the future archeologists would be trying to solve the puzzle of a pre-christian culture having the technology to make that type of bag and why only "Henry" was buried that way 😅😅
a lot of comments about dna. I really wish time team had the resources to refer teeth for (hopefully) dna recovery and testing. THAT would really blow me away.
The reason the average age of someone in the ancient or medieval world was around 30 was because of the large number of people who died in infancy or childhood and the large number of women who died in childbirth. Someone who lived to adulthood would stand a good chance of living to 60 or 70. Even the Bible records the time of a man's life as three score and ten (70), which we've improved on very little. So Henry reaching 60 is not all that remarkable.
I think it would have been better if they did DNA testing as part of the history of the area. It would be interesting to see if people in the area are related to them.
I have been watching this show and this cast for it seems like decades... As soon as I hear the words "geophys".... I turn the channel... It's really quite ridiculous at this point.... It needs a South Park episode...enough !!!

the respect and consideration these people have for history and culture is beautiful

Yup. That hit me.
Pat’s passion for archaeology is incredible. This show has touched so many.

this was an abnormally moving episode. loved it so much
This was a great episode. The woman's attachment to her Henry was touching.

It would be interesting if Henry had any descendants within a 10 mile radius still in the area.
Great question and certainly one which could be answered by DNA testing.
So I'm not the only Time Team fan who would drag my trowel sideways because Phil Harding does. Love this❤
Very interesting. I hope they restored that lady's garden!
Amazing! I was deeply moved. It was almost like a time machine going way back into our past. I feel like we were able to see what life was like 1500 years ago.
When they gave her the sketch and read the poem, I got chills

Very fruitful dig! Love the living history bits.
WHAT??? Buried with a small dog!!! Fantastic work !
❤😊❤
This is episode 1 from series 10 titled Garden Secrets and aired on 5 January 2003.

This was the first episode of TimeTeam I ever saw. I was hooked ever since!
This managed to be both informative and entertaining at the same time. I really enjoyed it! 😊
Me Too 😄
Cool one. There's an interesting series about Anglo-Saxon history and warfare worth checking out
What it called
Awesome. Thanks for another great history lesson.
The humor in each episode is priceless!!
I love this episode of TT. So humanizing of these ancestors.
Awesome dig, yet again. This history should be presented in schools.
This must be my favourite episode, Pats enthusiasm made it.
I’ve never seen this one before. Great treat.
This is one of my all time favorite episodes. Love the finds on this one.
Glad I found this series from over the pond!
Great episode! Like the reenactors participating too!
Thanks for posting.
A Very interesting Video 👌🏻👍🏻

I loved this episode. Thank you.
great episode....
I'd be interested to see if the DNA indicates assimilated native Briton, continental Saxon or a mixture.
As usual - a brilliant video - but why was it sped up !!?? Made it quite hard to listen to
i wonder how many of the other people living here in this small are thinking they might have someone buried in their garden. This was a pretty good episode.
Very fascinating, to be living in and around and above so much rich history.
You can't dig a hole in Britain without finding someone's skull. LOL!
I can't get enough of Anglo Saxon and Norman lore. Their construction methods and lifestyles just floor me. I would love to live over there and see everything but I'm poor
Wow, just wow. Thank you
Love Time Team!
Unbelievable that people would think this is not an important part of our history. I would build a complete museum around Henry!
Excellent, an episode I have never seen.
Love this episode!
Good show, thanks
Impressive!!! Thank you...💯👍
This was very good
How haunted their backyard and house have to be😅 they should've use a spiritbox to learn more from the dead persons they've found
What year did they say the guy was buried? They're saying something about Pre-Christian, when did England become totally Christian? This was a great episode !!!!
A girl and her puppy. 😊
I think I’m going to divide Time Team shows into three categories :
Rainy
Overcast
Sunny (sometimes)
Imagine living in a town that’s been populated since the Anglo-Saxons walked there. Wow.
Finally a Saxon. Dig that wasn’t just vague shadows of pole holes. ImGin knowing was in your yard.
35 years ago they built a new road and roundabout in Bidford upon avon warwickshire. They dug up and destroyed an anglo saxon burial ground and no effort was made to investigate it or protect it by stratford district council
What a sweet woman.
That's so sweet dog was buried with the girl.
Many of my ancestors came from the Saxon area of England. The skeleton might be a Grandfather, Uncle or Cousin of mine.
Where finally the old can be reunited with all of the present…hopefully.ついに昔の人々が現在のすべての人々と再会できる場所…願わくば。
I don't see a garden, I see a back yard.
I wouldn't have a problem leaving the skeleton there on the grounds. I'd fence it off and make it known its there.
Errrr…. Didn’t they actually find the other grave exactly where the dowsing old man said it would be…. 😮
Are these archaeologist going to reimburse this woman for tearing apart her yard and landscaping?
Yes they always do
They put everything back as it was, although it will take a season or two for the grass to grow back in evenly over the places where they dug the trenches, even if they place the sods back in. so wat about the hole in the guys skull???
Hence the phrase “pushing up daisies”.

Series 10 Episode 1 from 2003

WIll they do a DNA test on Henry? That would indeed be interesting.
Do you think the woman died first and they killed the pup to bury with her, or vice versa?
Be certain to stay off the grass now 😂
RIP air bud users.

I think Helen is a really cute woman.
Another documentary presented by Pee Wee Herman.
A little upsetting they are assuming gender
They’re not.
@@maralonent6257 I’m just joking
wat about the pickaxe hole in the guys head??????????
