Those drink warmers have fine print in the directions... They only work with mugs with an unglazed bottom. It's the same reason a crockpot insert has an unglazed bottom. The glaze on porcelain and ceramic insulates the drink inside slowing the transfer of heat, which also means it doesn't let heat from outside in easily. You need to buy one that has the mug already with it, and you have to remember that because it is unglazed, you have to hand wash the mug and not submerge it.
