@@RickBurnett-hz1gq Sssh, old and young, compared to what. Im just more and more thankful that i grew up in this era, what crazy development. Now, around thirty years later than when this golden era was born, both snowboard og skateboard is a olympic sport. When i was young, you would get fined for skating, and that time and prejudices, you didnt have to make much of yourself to get into more problems then fines. hehe. Its crazy to think about, its been a treat, and still going. Goddamn, Nyjah is still on the podium, legends like Joslin, O'Neill, Santiago, P-Rod, Pudwill, Oliveira still kickin it, havent seen much from some of the OG's last two-three years, a generationshift, but its still not long ago my inspirations were competing. Nostalgia aside, the new generations, the Asian Invasion on the scene, are just jaw-droppin insane athletes, Jake Anderson doin his thing, "new old schoolers" as I would call Hoefler i.e.. Keepin the skatespirit alive. Oh yeah, and the girls, must not forget how they've just ravaged progression last ten years, so impressing seeing a 14 year old girl lipslide big carriere-ending stairs, etc. I wouldnt believe my own eyes if a saw a SLS-contest from 2024, back in 2000. The exponential growth has been a joy to observe and be a part of, I've spent some good hours voluntarily and putting own money into building parks, so the young guns had better playgrounds than we had, and Id do it all over again, only regret is that I didnt spend more of my time, hehe. Like the aspect of being so much fun, develop useful skills and capabilities, workout, socially etc. From some pieces of wood glued together, with four wheels and ones own creativity to go with that plank, just about anyone can start skating. We OG's did this, standing tall and embracing something that we knew was too good to leave behind. Ive been around the sun over 40 times now, and think (extremely) generally/superficially, that most of my fellow 90s youths-gen, look less athletic and/or agile, experiences more aches, good amount of chronic diseases (in direction lifestyle diseases), and just appear older actually. Snow/skate was my workout and physical activity, and a good motivation at that. I believe it grew muscles, build mental and physical resilience, hardened my body and agility to a decent level, all spare time went into this, exercise 5 hrs a day, for 10-15yrs, to pull a number out of a dark hole, does things. It promoted conscient behaviour too, Terje Håkonsen refused to participate in the first olympics for snowboard (Nagano 1998), because he was against that such a sponsor/host was marketing unhealthy products, directed at easily influenced youth (McDonalds, coca-cola, Red Bull was prob trending, etc-etc). Who does that today? Also think part of his rebellion was that he disliked the fact that his passions were illegal (for no logic reason) when he grew up. When snowboard later was out of the cold (no pun intended), I think he despised the hypocricy, that came out from the fact that the men in ties, that was head boss of these giant powerful sport organizations, was the very same men, that few years earlier was contributing to prejudices, rumours, and rejection to sideway-boarders, and now was using young peoples influence to promote themselves, organization, products, patriotic. Scandinavian taxmoney poured into all sports that had a proper foundation and talents for, to compete and succeed at the highest level. Arto was an inspiration there too, coming from North-Europe, going straight to the party over in the states, and doing well, it was very few from here that had those capacities, skills, ambitions etc, to pull that off. Think Bækkel is in the same "style-genre" as Arto too, both crazy wolverines, seemingly without fear, from the deep dark cold woods, next to the north pole. blabla, hail Frey, Freya, and the allfather, and our old heroes that pioneered these beautiful activites!! Happy Holydays, skål
I get emotional watching certain parts even if they weren't my hype when I was younger and this is one of em. It's powerful man and Arto has given his everything to skateboarding...over time he has become a true hero of mine. Thanks Arto! Skate and Destroy!
Preach.. no social media . Just watch Banger get hype and go skate 8 hour shifts, lol .. go to sleep and repeat.. I hate to say this, but I'm 38 now. Nothing in my life has given me that natural high, then skateboarding
I went to the premiere in hollywood when this came out! Best time of my life, cant believe i was there after all these years. Arto is amazing, top 5 favourite skateboarders of all time. Whenever you get the rights for bowie as soundtrack, you know its gonna be big..
He put his LIFE ON THE LINE FOR SKATEBOARDING. He lived it, he loved it. These were the days. I'm exactly one week younger than Arto and watched this section at least 200 times in 2002. What a menace and absolute legend. Arto's in my top 5 easy
I was fourteen when this came out, had it on VHS and watched it every single day before going to skate. My favorite part growing up! also the reason I discovered Bowie :)
Yes ladies and gentlemen we grew up with skateboarding hitting it's prime. Jackass, CKY, Steve-O videos. Doing stupid stunts while also trying to do badass shit on wooden board.
So amazing. But after all these years, I feel like the weird effects ruined Penny's part here. People *really* just wanted to see raw Tom Penny footage at the time. I still want to just see all that footage in it's original glory.
One of my favorite parts ever.
From my fav skate video ever me and the krew used to watch this get pumped and skate every day almost 20 yr ago fuck I’m old lol
Fuck I hear you I gave my baker board to my nephew like over ten years ago fuck I gotta buy 3 complete and show my boys how to ride like here we go
This guy I taught to do and frontside 180 down a 2 set like 15 years ago he is pro snow boarder now so pround of him I where can I get signature board he they sold out 😂 like for real

Always & Forever one of the best of all time. Having said that, the filming on that back noseblunt was wonky. Was that a thumb in there?
This ahit right here. Tha best
those first minutes where he just does every trick back to back with a switch version of it.
Like he got towed by a motor bike to hit a spot and did massive frontside tail 180 out thats so awesome

I die every time.
"Arto! Arto! Wake up--wake up, let's go skate man!" 🛹
he get that part in a kind
K flip under the rail
I remember him taking a drag off his cigarette after the fakie flip. Was this my imagination?
I think you mean Reynolds. There's a Reynolds clip like that where he smokes a cig after a big trick
So amazing. But after all these years, I feel like the weird effects ruined Penny's part here. People *really* just wanted to see raw Tom Penny footage at the time. I still want to just see all that footage in it's original glory.
Have you seen french fred clips on thrasher

Jeez
Ea schemes in yellow
Arto is the man!!
David Bowie should not sing about a cigarette

Penny with the light of Lothlórien. Killer footage.
Don't show the Nine.
No con, no connivance, no contrivance. Plain, clear, simple talent. Extreme Games... kiss my ass.
so sad how they board slide him up the rail on the stretcher.
Effortless style
Penny is one of the most overrated to do it. Fight me.
Thank you💪💪🇫🇮
Epic
That nollie hobo heelflip though
