I hate to admit this but watching this made my eyes water. I miss those days man. All we needed was a skateboard and a video to get us unbelievably motivated to go on whatever skate mission we were doing that day. Shout out to the golden years.
This video defined my childhood. Flip - sorry, too. These were such classics. I wanted to skate like and be like Arto Saari more than anything. This video will never get old for me.
I probably watched this video more than any other video in 2001. Until sorry came out in 2002 I mainly watched this and zero videos more than anything.
this was the first skate vid i got on DVD. i had 411VMs, Adio One Step Beyond, Birdhouse The End, and so many more on VHS but this was the first DVD. watched it so many times. still love it.
I feel like this video was the shift from basic "film skating" to "produce a skate film" - I know some will argue The End was that video, but this video took production and editing to an entirely new level for skate films.
Me too dude, I could barely even do flip tricks when this came out but it amped me up and motivated me so much, then sorry came out when we were 15. I jumped down some decent gaps and sets for a good amount of years from 14 on though and this video was what pushed me. Too bad the only big ledges and rails I ever got to hit were at skateparks since we didn't have any spots like that at all. Biggest stairs in town were 7 stairs. Unfortunately since about 25 I haven't been able to do big gaps or anything like that anymore but maybe next year when it's nice out again.
Never forgotten. Still look it up these days and makes me wanna go skate. Arto is insane, the superstar from finland. To me, he was the nonplusultra.. gnarly as f.#“ and style. So smooth, skandinavian madness!
Epic part intro: after that long and slow National Geographic documentary-style sequence, when Arto covered in dirt and blood throws his broken board into a wall while the first CKY riff explodes into your ears...
5:47 that front board still should the icon of skateboarding, like the NBA but not as wack .... makes me want to throw my old carcass down some round ... nothing beats the feeling of skating round handrails .... nothing ... and only we know it
We never had any actual handrails in our old hometown so unfortunately I never got to skate one. I did some decent skatepark rails but they weren't shit.
@@nikokaapa the editor (French Fred) didn't know Finnish, so when he made some cuts to Arto's voiceover, the Finnish part didn't made that much sense. I guess Arto was originally saying he was born in Seinäjoki and left Finland for good when he was 19 years old.
Arto. In this video, all the riders had to give a short intro about themselves. Ronnie Creager kind of says he can't think of one. So they put him saying that for his intro. Kind of a random factoid.
Said it before and I'll say it again...I love this video and watched it front to back...but I HATE how they decided to remake the edits and turn this into less of a French Fred vid and more of a Ty Evans vid. It ruins the whole video to me.
All my friends were hyped on this video when it came out. I think I watched 15 minutes of it and fell asleep. Would rather watch a 20 minute th umali joint. Boring! Is it ok to have an opinion? Thanks

This video defined my childhood. Flip - sorry, too. These were such classics. I wanted to skate like and be like Arto Saari more than anything. This video will never get old for me.
Hell yea, Arto a goddamn Legend.
My favorite :)
@5:23 seeing that Crooked grind is what inspired me to go out and master the Crooked…and I did!!!! Thanks Arto!!!!
The song during Artos part is Foreign Objects, the band Bam Margeras brother was in before he started CKY
éS had the best team ever
Da Rijo had being the key word
They sure did.
One of the best shoes use by the pro like chad muska
I probably watched this video more than any other video in 2001. Until sorry came out in 2002 I mainly watched this and zero videos more than anything.
must have watched this over 1000 times on VHS when it came out. Arto cant be matched.
I never realized how many switch tricks Arto had done in this part.
The whole of Menekmati is basically switch
I remember saving up to buy this around 14 it was either this or a dirty gun and skateboarding helped me stay away from the wrong ppl.
fuck yeah, and with sk8'ing you still get to break the law!
this was the first skate vid i got on DVD. i had 411VMs, Adio One Step Beyond, Birdhouse The End, and so many more on VHS but this was the first DVD. watched it so many times. still love it.
Sight Unseen & Globe opinion were the first DVDs in my house, from a birthday, hah
dam I remembered when kids were learning nollie heel flips and crook grinds because of this guy
it makes sense that Arto is from Finland because all his tricks were... Finishers.
I'll see myself out.
😂👎
nice
🎉
timeless masterpiece!

got this on red vhs
Me too!
Amazing I watched this over and over and over when I was 14 just wanted to shreddd

@5:23 still one of the best and smoothest crooked grinds ever done!
I used to religiously watch this on VHS. Such a sick vid.
Arto one of the best to ever do it.
3:35 Nostalgia chills when the music begins
Never forgotten. Still look it up these days and makes me wanna go skate. Arto is insane, the superstar from finland. To me, he was the nonplusultra.. gnarly as f.#“ and style. So smooth, skandinavian madness!
his crook is possibly the best of all time
"Mother fucking genator went off n shit.. well i dont give a shit.."
Luckily it didn't affect the clip much. He definitely wasn't doing it again. I can't believe he wasn't even feeling it that night but still did it.
The song at the beginning it's amazing!!!
Ahead of the time.
Arto still gets my ankles to flick for a nollie flip wen I'm just watchin'. He's one of the best & last.
I grew up watching this too, looking back, this guy was gnarly, big bag of tricks for days, an NBD at El Toro, respects for Arto
Yep...this is the part that changed skateboarding.
i came to california to live the life i dreamed of even known its not the same i thought it was... it's so great 🔥
That noseslide through the kink @6.03 is so raw! Must have been sketchy to try!
Still my fave skate vid

I love how Geoff was filming a lot back then too.
We never had any actual handrails in our old hometown so unfortunately I never got to skate one. I did some decent skatepark rails but they weren't shit.
One of, if not THE cleanest bs crook I’ve ever seen on that curved concrete ledge.
Part still has that power in 2020
Front board el toro at night. Fuuuuuuuckkkk. Way ahead of his time
2018 still watching this
2020, still happenin.
2024, going strong
5:23 the best crooked
I remember I had the arto Etnies shoes...and they were hella good! But I never obtain the arto ÉS though, I was young and I couldn't afford them 😔
Es artos were my favorite shoe ever, pretty much all I skated in middle school
Watching this made me miss the koston 1 shoe.
You should Upscale this video. love this part.
the part where he speaks finnish is funny cause what he says doesnt make any sense :D
"i was born in seinäjoki when i was 19 years old" :D
Wtf really? That’s weird
Never noticed that, but you are right. Weird indeed.

@@jussikotila3570 That makes sense as well
me gusta mucho este video
2019 and still watching this. (21 years later?)
I had this vhs signed by Eric Koston and I havent been able to fine it in like 15 years.
My biggest flex is that im related to him🦅‼️
Best part ever
@esskateboarding In the version I had, there were english subtitles at Arto Finish part. What version of the VHS is this ?
I love that long curvy crook by the end its almost turned into a noseslide on a truck.
Kinda history.
Who does this version not have the subtitles in the beginning like the VHS?
His accent changed over the years. Sounds like he was influenced hanging around with Geoff Rowley here😂
omg this part with the cky song is so nostalgia
Perfect
who is here watching after 9 club episode?
Best opening.
first internacional team
Dat's purism of Skateboardin'.
This part still heavy as fuck

at 6:45 is that the pool in Magic's skate park? it looks alot like it. R.I.P.
Love the intro so fucking much!
I got jacked for this video I was pissed
The cky song on this is so fucking great but i cant listen to the song without the click and grind of the skateboard it's so weird
Damn, I forgot he front board El Toro. That shit is crazy.

3:25 Never noticed that...did the city put nobs on a upright pole? 😂

Arto the god
the goat
What's the second song called??????
The song @ 3:34 is Testing - CKY 🤘😝
Ruthless
Shout out to Cky
👍👍👍👍👍
Who was talking at the beginning?
Take a wild guess. lol
About his childhood in Seinäjoki Finland (bad weather condition, cold winter/snow etc, not enought skate spots) and why he moved to CA.
Arto. In this video, all the riders had to give a short intro about themselves. Ronnie Creager kind of says he can't think of one. So they put him saying that for his intro. Kind of a random factoid.
No closed captions? 😡

Shit, it was Aarto Saari Loll
All my friends were hyped on this video when it came out. I think I watched 15 minutes of it and fell asleep. Would rather watch a 20 minute th umali joint. Boring! Is it ok to have an opinion? Thanks
😂😂😂😂 dude I love east coast videos too, that's how we grew up in the Midwest but this shit changed the game so yeah you're opinion is wrong.
Here in the states a brand new pair of his first shoe go for hundreds of dollars.
