I store my buckets upside down to avoid crap falling into them (still rinse them out before use of course)
Good advice. Been using all those myself, except the detail spray when drying. First, my detail spray is not designed to be used when the vehicle is wet, and 2nd, I don't dry with a towel.
Swirl prevention #11. Don't dry with any towels and eliminate unnecessary contact with the paint. Use a dedicated leaf blower to dry your car. If the paint has been well maintained with a good synthetic wax, the water will blow right off, and have the added benefit of getting those bits of water caught in cracks and crevices out, so you don't get unsightly drip marks when you start driving. Use a plush microfiber or waffle weave for minor touch ups where the blower did not get.
I’ve never thought of using detail spray during the drying process. That’s a great idea. Good job.
Love how a car cleaning video starts with just reving the engine. Lol.
how couldn't it when it sounds that good?
amorbavian gotta flaunt your baby haha
What a beautiful car.
Andre Gross lol it was my dads

i dont have a wash mit but i do have a cat would that also work?
As long as it's declawed
Pussy is best for licking not cleaning
Yep, just done mine. He moaned a bit but seems fine now and lovs gliding through the foam.
The comments are hilarious! 😂😂😂😂
Top tip; wear gloves
Great video and very well presented. I worked in a dealership for a while and I had to leave. They wanted the cars to be immaculately presented but not provide you with any of gear to do it. I just do it as a hobby now with my own two cars and I really love your videos. All the best from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Thank you so much for making this video you have made washing my cars now such a fun and easy process. I think people don't realize that although these steps seem tedious and long winded it makes washing your cash so much easier.
Addition: Use more than just 1 or 2 washmitts. 5 or more are more convenient and keeps the buckets water cleaner. But great tipps, I like the detailer to dry the most!
Awesome video. I am a weekend warrior and washing my cars is my therapy. The only thing I have not been doing until recently is the prewash which just occurred to me as a good idea the last couple of washes. Wasn't sure about its value until seeing this video and plan to do it routinely.
I like to use some sort of lubricant also when drying. Never tried the detailing fluid before but have gotten great results with Maguire's Spray wax sprayed directly on the car and more recently with "Hydrate" from AMMONYC.
Thanks again for a killer video. Car's not bad either.
excellent work. thanks for all your time and effort to share and educate. All the best.
great advise some of which i knew but the grill in the bottom of the bucket is so obvious but i had totally over looked it.thanks for the tip im so glad i watch all the way through, gaz
4:16 Damn that tattoo!!! haha. You could just scare the dirt off the car!
you forgot to mention a top tip...
wipe and wash in straight lines, not circles.. if microscratches do appear, they will only be visible from one or two angles when the sun light is just right... but if you wash in circles, the microscratches will be visible from all angles of reflection.
A well rounded comment
I'd be more concerned about my neighbour's reaction to the fact that I'd inserted my hand well into said dead cat than the fact that I was using it to wash my car. Great videos and perfectly proficient provision of alliteration.
Perfect instructions for washing a clean car section by section with a contaminate free mit with two buckets of refined water.
I'd say using two microfiber towels is a better option when drying:
Get one of them wet, and rinse it out. Spray a few times with your detailer on it, and dry an entire section.
Then use a second, dry and clean microfiber towel to dry off the mist left behind by the first microfiber towel.
I've been using this method, and I've yet to run out of the detailer used to dry my car in the 6 months I've been using it. If you're going to soak your car in detailer spray when drying, you're going to go through an awful lot of product.
Highly professional content .. This +Car Cleaning Guru and AMMONYC the best two auto valeting channels on the net.
Your narration is really good. Well balanced, clear statements. It reminded me of reading P. G. Wodehouse - without the humour. Then, you mentioned the dead cat !! 😂
Just the right thing to do, excellent! Working this way, takes more time, but the reward is even greater, a clean and indeed shiny car.
A big thumbs up for not starting the detail by banging on about 'no contact' and then saying 'first jet wash off any loose dirt' (and grit, gravel, sand, dust and other clearcoat destroying crud) and then proceeding to blast it off at 2000psi 4 inches from the pressure washer nozzle! I've seen so many 'pro detailers' do this before snow foaming! It scratches the surface to death, you may as well sand blast it (well almost, you know what I mean!)
The reason you’ve seen so many others pressure washing with apparent disregard for causing scratches is because like myself, they know it doesn’t cause scratches.
@@CarCleaningGuru ooh, now I didn't expect that as a reply! So the dirt etc doesn't get pushed along the paintwork and scratch as it goes? How does that work then? Does the water pressure lift it off the surface? I've never heard anyone say this before! Sounds interesting.
The water sweeps under and encapsulates the dirt, especially when the stream hits the panel at an angle. I suppose technically if you hit a bunch of dirt absolutely dead-on it could potentially inflict some light damage but in all the thousands of cars I’ve cleaned I’ve never seen any kind of mark that would suggest it happens.
@@CarCleaningGuru ok that's really interesting. I live and learn (which at the end of the day is why I watch your vids!) I was always having this argument in my head whether it is better to rinse the car before snowfoaming, so in theory it's a bit cleaner before the foam does it's job but the panels are wet, so maybe it will struggle to stick and dwell or whether foaming on to a dry but dirtier panel was better as it would have more chance of clinging. I still struggle to come to a conclusion in my own mind tbh!
Good video. I would also add to rinse out your washmitt with the hose often and to change the bucket water halfway through.
Excellent tutorial! I would add just one little important thing in there, though related to part 10 of staying grounded, I fell like it is important to point out that if you dropped one of washing accessories or a towel, leave it there, get another one, only then continue the process.
Of course the best method is to throw away used washing accessories and dropped towels, but that is a whole new level which is perhaps not necessary in most cases, not to mention extremely expensive.
Another important point to add, is to use Synthetic Only towels and washing accessories, though a cotton towel may seem very soft to touch it is still to hard for a painted surface and will leave a lot of swirls from a mere wipe.
Also don't forget to hold the hose over your shoulder or where ever as long as it does not touch the car.
PS. Also not a good idea to wash under direct sunlight because water drops act like magnifying glass; plus water water usually contains minerals which will be immediately visible after the drop of it dries, which is why its better to use pure/distilled water to do a final rinse off (also platinum level stuff).
Hi great explanation thank you. All washing videos are on top detailed cars, I am thinking of doing one from a really dirty and unprotected car to see the difference after washed.
Also instead of having a rinse bucket I just hose off the wash mit completely with fresh running water after every panel. That way the water is absolutely clean and the running water removes any contaminates completely almost guaranteed.
Alfa Won avoid wash buckets all together...foam , rinse , re-foam, wash with mit (I use a different mit for each panel), rinse, dry and wax
What an excellent video I’ve got a new car coming in two months a fiesta ST3 .
Although not a Porsche it’s still a brand-new car you have described in very easy ways how to save scratches and swirls . Enjoyed the video easy to follow thanks 😁
Great tips and presented very well in this video. Thanks for sharing.
You are the best Car Cleaning Guru! The best mate!
Nice Tips.I spend ages in washing the car down with water first using my hand to gently rub the panels so byt he time when get to washing its pretty clean anyway then a fresh microfiber mit for every panel so the mit only goes into the bucket on the first dip then never again. Rinse mits well at the end of the wash then into the machine. Sure it takes much longer but NO SWIRLS. A good quality sealant like Polish Angel Master Sealant will really give great protection too.
This car really is a piece of art. Lord, that back end😌😌
Great video, a pooling rinse before drying will remove most of the standing water, leaving much less water to dry.
True, and a blow dry... perhaps the video needs an update ;)
Great and correct video , pleasant voice and the sweetest car on the road ! Congrats
Very useful tutorial. You can tell you are a professional detailer. A job well done! What is your detailing company name?
Certainly a number of tips I'll be adopting. I've been struggling to get a decent snow foam that works well, the most recent product I tried was Daemon Foam. I think the foam bottle that came with my Pressure washer was the cause so I've invested in a proper foam lance, and some snow-foam products. Hopefully that'll be 50 quid well spent...
Under swirl prevention tip #10, an excellent addition would be pressure wash the mitts and rags with soap followed by a short soak and spin dry.
Great Vid !! One Suggestion - NO DRYING WHAT SO EVER !! Cordless Leaf Blower works best !
Good with the words, Luv watching the man clean the car,
I wish all people did there jobs as good as u do yours :)
Text book stuff... Well presented ... Only two things I do differently ... I don't let the contents of the wash mit re enter the rinse Bucket ... And I dab rather than swipe with a drying towel
also the final spray wax method is top notch and very very helpful
Thank you for the advice I'm going to try and use the drying and detailing spray it never crossed my mind as I normally do it after. I've been watching a lot of your videos and I'm going to try that.
I’ve just bought a Blo air gt as I believe the drying process with microfibre cloths is the most likely way of delivering swirl marks.
If this is how you stop swirl marks, what’s the best way to renovate current swirls from a car that was neglected for 7-8 years due to having Autoglym lifeshine? As it is swirly and hazy as hell.
Cracking video, indeed your whole series which is very informative. Thanks fella :)
I learned something new with well explained reasons why! 2 thumbs up and a new subscriber.
fantastic! could you show us what to do with Polish and cleaning the dirty Polish rags and kit etc? a bit of softener and a good old machine wash should have a polishing pad plush again I suppose
Washed my MB every weekend by hand for 4 years - not a single swirl mark - here's some additional tips to this great video.
1. Do the horizontal panels first. The bonnet will show up swirl marks before doors and wings due to the way light hits it, so clean it first before *any* debris becomes locked in the wash mitt. So bonnet first, boot lid, then vertical panels, working towards the dirtiest areas behind the wheels.
2. For the same reason, leave the windows until last. This reduces the chances of any dirt on the mit by leaving the windows until you've completed the more important paintwork.
3. When complete, turn the hose to strong spray and run it up and down the mit from 4 inches to remove all dirt. Now rinse it, then grab it firmly by the wrist elastic and sharply whiplash it towards the ground. This throws out any remaining water and particles - and returns the mit to as new condition. DO NOT hang it on the washing like to dry, as rain drops are polluted with tiny grains that will ruin post wash care :o)
4. Consider a no-contact drying system. Otherwise knowing as taking it for a drive :)
Thanks for the vid but bylaws in my city disallows the use of foam or even soap if the runoff leaves the property. Will not only get a fine but can also be charged with a hazmat cleanup that could be in the thousands of dollars. Had a neighbour call the city on me once for washing my car in the driveway with what were fairly minimal suds.
Awesome video the spray and drying was new for me
Kevin Monzon Same here! If I'm just doing a maintenance wash I'll dry and then quick detail, but now I'll try that :)
Are you full detailing this gt3? This car looks insane! Awesome video!
+pnetwork i Nothing planned at this point I'm afraid. I should be going back to get something filmed with the owners new Range Rover Sport however.
Great video...its made me re-think the way i clean my car...whats the best brand of tfr to use ? Thanks
Thank you for this insightful video. I'm looking forward to using these techniques for my next car. Regarding the drying process, it has never occurred to me to also use a detail spray while doing it. Which detailing spray do you recommend? A Zymol product perhaps?
I think the car should be washed with water after using the foam. That way you get the dirt away. If you use a mitten after the foam, you just scrape the dirt against the paint?
kanervatie
It was ! with the power washer.
kanervatie He did..you blind or what?
Thanks. Learnt a few new tips. Great car you worked on
the only step that doesn't make too much sense is the 2 wash mit for top and bottom. What i mean is, if you're done washing the top, it shouldn't matter if you use a new or the mit you're currently using for the bottom half of the car. The exception is, if you're wiping the side skirts, front lip, rear diffuser, wheel well area, where I personally would use a another old wash mit on those areas.
+mikepartyboy If using the correct methodology it shouldn't matter no, the reason I would advise using a second mitt on the lower areas of dirty cars is to prevent the ones you use on the rest of the body from becoming over contaminated and perhaps inflicting damage at a later date.
not a fan of Porsche´s white led tail lights, but on this color i think it looks pretty good
Thanks,Now i know how to wash a car that i don't have ❤️❤️!!
I like the idea of the mit. Sponges can't get in the parts a mit can. Think I'll invest in a mit 😊👍
I concur you are from Planet Valet. That's in the Thoth System.
Welcome to Earth (need to rinse that off)
Great video. Thanks for the tips.
+69Phuket Don't you mean the 'Froth System' ;)
+CarCleaningGuru I did Indeed! It's Frothy Man. Follow the Bear ;)
+Car Cleaning Guru What color is the #991. I have seen the same color scheme on the mean mustang car care video. Loved it!
Excellent vid CCG 👍 Would you still use a detail spray to help dry if you were planning to put a final stage product on top? I only ask as I wonder if some FSPs are not compatible with detailing sprays, ie they need the paint to be clean of all residues etc.
Mr Guru can you tell me which detail spray can be used?
Really enjoy watching you videos, have learnt a lot so far! quick question is there any need to polish a car after using a detailing lubricant spray?
+TheDvdod Only if it needs it! A detail spray is designed to help maintain and prevent swirls being inflicted in previously detailed finishes but if I was planning on polishing I wouldn't bother with the detailing spray when drying.
Thanks for the info! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Great tips mate, thank you so much.
Thank you for more great tips! Im new to ur channel and find ur videos very well put together =)
Excellent video. I wish I had found you sooner.
What would you recommend pre washing-wise if a pressure washer cannot be used? I've tried the foam bottle things but they just don't seem to work!
Rain
There's a few of these that I can't do because I don't have access to the products / equipment necessary, which is really frustrating...
Hey guru, what are the criterias to choose a foaming product for pre-clean ? (for example in regards to chemicals, neutral ph, etc.. ). I just want to keep my car as new as possible, so I'de like to imitate what the car manufacturer himself used to clean the car before shipping it. I have seen the foam products on your website but still, I'd like to know what should be the criterias when my goal is the one mentionned above ?
i consider my self a very good non professional. I have a 2012 GTI, white with 72k miles and the paint is still glossy and sexy. I have one question. I dont use the two bucket system, but before i put the mitt back in my soap bucket i rinse it off with the hose. That is to say i take the hose and blase both sides of it. Do you think this is as effect as the two bucket system?
That's what I do too. Except mainly I use really deep nice brushes because my van is massive but I do rinse before reloading. I use big ladders to do the roof first, then the upper panels(down to one brush width below where the windows would be) then another half of the width toward the bottom and finally around the bottom.
i love your videos, i enjoy detailing! what do you recommend as brands of pre wash and car wash soap and detail spray for the cars. i really enjoy detailing a car to make it look like new!
Thanks very helpful when it comes to my own car
So you use 3 buckets? Or do you dip the mite that you used to wash the wheel into the same bucket that you used to wash the car? Also do you wash the mite with your towels in a washer or do you do it by hand with soap and water?
Good afternoon!!! I like your video !!! I am a resident of Brazil. Which specific product do you spray the car for drying with the micro fiber towel ??? I await your response ... Thanks !!!
i think its using this : www.prestigecarcareshop.com/products/adams-detail-spray
Professional guy ! thanks for the upload
Lovin all your uploads mate. Im a keep detailer of my own car. Had various Fords and now a 2015 VW Polo Gti in flash red. Took delivery in october and the dealer had kindly installed a few swirls even tho i warned them to be ultra carefull. I machined polished with DA with Hex logic white pad with meguiars M205, took out a fair amount of the swirls but could do with more work. Would a 2 stage polish starting with a more agressive pad or polish then finishing with a finer one be better?, i understand VW paint is meant to be hard but all paints are different. Any advice or tips welcome.
+Andy Lees Ideally yes. You could try a microfibre pad also which will give a bit more bite.
+Car Cleaning Guru thx m8 will do
Just be prepared to finish down as heavier cutting will inevitably leave marks of its own.
Thanks for the info and tips! Great things to know!
Love your videos. They're very informative and explained and demonstrated well! Keep doing what you do..
Quick question: I have a foam gun coming in from Autogeek, and was wondering if you agree with a theory I heard... The less you physically touch the paint, the less margin of error there is to scratch your paint? Would you agree or disagree? So in theory, if I do a thorough pre-rinse with a hose, than follow up with the foam gun step, and let it work in for a few minutes.. will it still hold true to my theory if I just rinse afterwards, without agitating the loose dirt from that the foam lifts up? Thanks dude. I'm hoping I make sense, because I'm a bit confused! haha
+D Drake Theoretically the less you touch the paint the better yes however you will remove more dirt particles foaming a car dry instead of rinsing it first!
+Car Cleaning Guru I appreciate your input! Guess I'll have to do some experimentation. Would you say letting the foam work in 3-5 minutes too long?
A couple of minutes is usually sufficient or it begins to dry in my experience.
Hi, Great video - what Mit (aka dead cat) are you using? I didn't see it in your "shop" .....??
I guess you're a professional. The pressure washer is £550 which is quite a bit.
What do you think of say a karcher k2 for example?
Hi There. Can you tell whats in your detailing and where i can buy it.
Many thanks
robert
Add another tip to your list:
Do NOT allow dealerships to give your car a complimentary wash after every service. Do you really think the minimum wage dude paid to clean as many cars as possible is going to give the slightest shit about your cars paintwork? NO! Just got mine back from the dealer where they cleaned it, and the entire paintwork all over is SWIRLED to hell, after the care I took to prevent swirls in the first place!
Indeed!
i specifically asked them NOT to give my car a wash... but the fucker that helped me went right ahead and signed my car up for the wash.
they would be paying for a paint correction at my choice of shop. That Is BullSHTT
Thanks for the vid man, sound advice! What soap would you recommend?
Excellent video very informative
Top car top job yet again, keep up the good work 😎
hi dude, love your videos! have you got any tips to remove swirl marks? I didn't put them there lol
What kind of detailing spray were you using?? When drying your car
very helpful & informative vid!
hi guru, i was curious..does drying your car with chamois will strip your existing wax? thanks
+Albern Felix No but it is more likely to scratch and swirl the finish than a drying towel.
You should incorporate an electric blower (Toro) to help dry the car first
Phillip Simmons that's what I use on my cars. Works great just keep a microfiber towel with you for touch ups
Is it worth it to get a pressure washer? or is it better to spend the money on better wash mits, rags, and cleaning products
You just answered your own question.
A pressure washer is a great investment.. It is excellent when cleaning the car. I also use mine for blasting dirt from paths, patios and driveways.. You can pick a decent one up for under £100.
Great video. Thanks
Very good video! What brand of spray on detailer do you use?
Autosmart Reglaze here. Just a trade based bulk product but there's much better out there!
I detailed my car and it's all shiny and has no swirls WA do I use to wash it normally but not swirling again
Such a gorgeous car.
which detail spray did you use and where did you get it from.
Just Beautiful.
hello :)
very nice video, i use this method of car-washing too.
my question is, did you diluted the detailer or can i buy this large sprayer?
how much ml are in there?
greetings from germany!
I dilute it as it's very concentrated.
I love your accent, bro.
I love how at the end of every sentence he sounds like he"s ending with a question
I never "dry" the car with anything. Number 1 way to prevent swirl marks. Simply pour distilled water all over the finished car and let dry. In the sun even better as it will dry faster. Zero water marks! I'm surprised expert car detailing channels don't use this simple and best method.
Hey do you swear that really works? Because it would be great if I could just pour with distilled water and not have to do anything
