Update video on the plants is now posted :) ua-cam.com/video/yO6Cl6g1VZk/v-deo.html I no longer support Aroid Asia. A reel was posted on their instagram page without my permission (now deleted). I have no problem calling out companies that do this to me and take advantage of my content for advertising purposes. A unboxing video is all that they asked me to make in exchange for the plants. They never reimbursed the $25 fee that they said they would either. I just wanted to make you aware if you're considering importing from them 💚 I have the DM and emails as receipts 📄
The plants look stunning! The pest situation is very unfortunate, but like you said, at least they aren't planted in soil. Can't wait to see updates on these babies ❤
I watched an auction where they commented that there was a treatment resistant thrips outbreak in Indonesia. If you think that one plant had thrips with damage to the one leaf save yourself some worries and cut and burn that one leaf. Sorry about your pests. I don’t think I’d order from them.
Thank you! I think they all came in pretty good shape. It’s exciting to have new plants but definitely saw the mealie and was like great 🙈 more pests to deal with! But it wasn’t too bad. Got them all clean!
Thank you! Right lol. The Hoyas are beautiful so I hope they acclimate well. I didn't have any hoyas in my last import so not sure how they handle the stress but I'll definitely do updates on them!
Tortum really surprised me. I was concerned it would have a hard time adjusting to my very low humidity environment. But it never did. It gets new leaves like crazy and took a repot without even a blip. It really is one of my favorites.
Omg!! So jealous all these plants are beautiful!! Especially the tortum 🥰🥹 I never open up any plant mail or bring any new plant into my room after at least two weeks of quarantine! Hopefully all your babies are fine!
I wanted to film in the better light but definitely will do the next one outside 😂 it’s been storming all week so the rest of the house has been a lot darker but all the grow lights help in there 🙈
it's so amazing that, being in australia and so close to indonesia, i can't buy any of these plants (we have very strict biosecurity regulations) - but you can have them shipped all the way to you in georgia! good luck with rehabbing your new plants! i'm looking forward to seeing how they go! ☺ (especially the tortum!) 💚
Im in NZ and its a real trip to see these unboxings. We would never get away with importing them here. The bug sitch ..I mean....theyre meant to be treated. Im grateful for our biosecurity regs thats for sure
So excited for your Tortum 😍 I love mine, even though I find it to be a bit of a slow grower compared to my other plants. Not really into Hoyas but the ones you got are huuuge! How cool 🤩
I think out of all of them I'm most excited about the tortum! I hope it does well acclimating here. Hoyas aren't my fav either but happy to have some less needy plants 😂
Awesome plants for sure. The two red Hoya and the Tortum are spectacular in my humble opinion. I intend to do some research on the Tortum because I’m sensing an episode of my “I-wanna” syndrome rearing it’s ugly head. I like learning about new (for me) plants and this video was certainly an avenue for that. Merry Christmas to you too, Melissa. On a more serious note good luck with your new plants. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! 😂 I wasn’t expecting any Hoyas but so happy to have them! I think the red color is beautiful 😍 excited for the tortum too! The new leaves come in so weird 😂
I enjoy frequent I Wanna episodes when watching your videos and thanks for that. Today is a good plant day for me. First this video and the I Wannas then one of my sons dropped by to give me several creeping phlox plants for one of my outdoor planting beds. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. Thanks again.
Very nice! I like the way they packaged, no toilet paper on roots lol I just got a wishlist plant ~tortum from local nursery same size as yours for $32.00!I was so excited and is about to have a leaf unfurl, can not wait to see that! I just watched another plant tuber and her order had mealy bugs as well. I agree mealy bugs and scale are pretty easy to remove. Can’t wait to see updates :)
Thank you!! Yay on your tortum!! Such a cool plant and so happy I have one now :) I don’t mind mealies or scale that much but was worried about thrips for sure after the aurea monstera 🫣 but nothing else has popped up on them!
Well done you! You have a really nice bundle of aroids there Melissa and as usual we look forward to seeing updates. And thank you for your relaxed reaction to the pests....makes me more relaxed and confident when finding those pests on my plants (unless of course I find thrips! 😜) Enjoy nursing them to better health 👏🏼🥰
Don't panic even if you get thrips. I freaked out when I realized I bought a plant with thrips, managed to eradicate them with a lot of soap, isopropyl and showering them every couple days to blast off any bugs
Super unpopular opinion but I find mealies kind of cute! Plus they're my favorite "pest" because they're so easy to treat. A little dish soap and they literally disintegrate 😂
Thank you! I think I got them all. Took awhile to clean them and all the crevices because I’m just weird 😂 was mostly worried about thrips but no other pests have shown up.
Hi Melissa! I have been binge watching your videos and I am "Obsessed" 🤣🤣Thank you for all you do, you are now my favorite Plant UA-camr, your collection is absolutely beautiful.💚💚
I recently watched your previous imports I know they would have taken a lot of work for the videos but I hope you do them again. I watched them one after the other (binging sorry) and it was so amazing seeing the updates like that and what you did for them. But I understand they take time so take my request with a grain of salt. i just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed them
Thank you! I loved sharing that whole process and it was my first time with doing that so it was a lot of fun for me too! I'm glad you enjoyed that! I already filmed what I did after the unboxing and how they are doing a couple days later but just going to combine it into one video in a couple weeks so I can do a few more check in's with them!
Great plant selection and beautiful, the Hoyas huge. The tortum is on my wish list, one day will get one. Have seen a couple of import videos now where the plants have had pests it’s interesting because they have gone through photo sanitary process, not sure how they get through with pests present. 🌱💚
I recently watched another unboxing for ariodAsia and they had the same issue…mealy bugs. Gross! Thankfully they are super easy to treat. I am intrigued by trying an import.
Yeah, pests are annoying to find but I'd would rather have mealies than some others. Importing is a fun experience and a great way to get some less common plants but it can be risky too!
Sweet Pea. Please wear your hair up when you inbox plants you don’t know where they have been. The plants are beautiful but I’m more concerned about You. ❤❤
@gypsygreenqueen414 you probably just washed them off. Seems a little dramatic instructing people to put their hair up. Your maybe gonna potentially pass them to another plant.
I recommend Gauri Living, Gayuh (the owner) is really nice and worried to give a good service, it's cheap and the plants are very healthy, without any pest.
Wow all those giant Hoyas. How exciting. Your plants look great. Just a few pests you can handle it. Are you going to mention it to the company, especially as they got a photo sanitary certificate. Somebody didn’t check the plants very well maybe at the point where they came through customs.
Thank you!! As soon as I saw the first pest I was like oh no gotta check them all really close now 🙈 I think they came from the adansonii. I found more hiding down in the stems 🫣
Hi Melissa! Love your nails!! Sucks to get new plants that have pests it dims down the excitement for sure… those red Hoyas 😖 I’ve seen others unbox them they are kind of ugly to me… looks like mold on the leaves. 😂
I wonder what the sanitary process is. Maybe they just fumigate the plants which would kill the pests, but not remove them from the leaves. Could you tell if the mealy bugs were alive?
@@plantsbymelissa Yeah, sanitary process 🙄 WTF? Plants were in the original paper packaging so how were they inspected and sanitized? I am pretty sure nobody in customs or any other sanitizing facility will not bother to package them that properly back after inspection 😏 Usually I can see if package (not with plants) was opened and sealed again. I really do not get all this paperwork and certificates and fee and you still get plants pet pests? I think somebody in Aroid Asia is banging their head against the wall right now.
Melissa, I love your new planty babies! What pest would you say is hardest to rid your aroids of?? Also, I was wondering if you have any xanthosoma by chance? I've looked through your vids and couldn't find any relating to them, but wondered if you had any, would you post a care tip video?? Thanks!
thank you! hmm, I would say flat mites but they only attacked some of my hoya and prayer plants. For aroids would say maybe thrips just because of the life cycle. It took about 2 months and they did a lot of damage. Spider mites are really annoying if you get an infestation. I have some caladiums outside but they go dormant for me at the end of summer and I don't transfer those inside. I have a tiny Mickey Mouse one I just got a few months ago. Mostly just alocasia inside but I treat them all the same.
Yeah, Mealy's don't bother me either. They're the best, so easy to see and get rid of, but I admire your confidence of unboxing in front of that wall of beauties! I couldn't do that.
I'm curious to see how the marmorata roots fair. I bought 4 plants from them in March. They were stuck in the mail for 15 days or so. Surprisingly 3 of the plants were great but the monstera albo's roots were gray moldy and fell off. They sent me another and it was only 5 days in the mail. The roots were better but after being in water for less than a day the smell. OMG the smell. ☠️ I eventually cut all the roots off and am praying it will re root. It's been a few weeks and nothing yet 😢. I would definitely order from them again (not a monstera albo tho) if I were placing a large order or sharing the shipping and sanitary certificate price with friend or something.
A lot came off when I rinsed them under the water probably just from the shock and dehydration but from my import last summer most of the old roots ending up rotting and new ones grew in to replace them. I had them in perlite for 4-6 weeks.
My concern is that around Asia reached out to you And Gena at Pink Trellis with this offer. I wonder who else they reached out to, and what their ulterior motive might be? Other than getting publicity for their company? Also was sorry to see you getting plant pests along with your plants!! Beautiful plants!!👍💙👏🌵❤
They just asked for the unboxing video in exchange so probably just publicity! Finding pests was a bit disappointing but the plants at least all seem to be doing well and no more pests.
I personally would be disappointed the plants weren't treated before leaving the nursery and made it through phyto process. While treatable, it's another stress the plant has gone through on top of the import stresses. Good luck 🤞
She even said that the monstera had old thrip damage on it, so on top of all the current pests they sent her a plant with pest damage on it likeeeeee I don’t think I would order form this company 👀👀👀
Yes, I agree! I know I got these plants for free but I would have been upset if I dished out all that money and they came with pests after the phyto process. Like you said, it's another stress for the plant and for you as well with having to treat and follow up.
I have checked the monstera everyday since I got the import in Monday. Thankfully, no thrips have shown up because I know they can hatch every 3-4 days if there's eggs inside of the plant tissue. The damage is all over the 4 leaves so it definitely had them at one point. I know I don't expect perfect plants but still, my batch had a lot of pests with it so kinda disappointing.
I just got my first mealies in my house :/ best part...their on a fairy castle cacti lol I basically just drowned the whole plant in alcohol, washed as much soil off as i could and soaked what wouldn't come off as well. Still see a few stragglers here and there. So its just gonna be a drunk plant for a while since all i can do is keep putting alcohol over it. Ive considered tossing..i broke a couple pieces off that i could wash well and hopefully itll root, then if i need to give up on the main plant, ill have the babies. Sigh
Sorry about the pests! :( I haven’t tried lacewings yet but I want to the next time I have an outbreak. They’re beneficial bugs and eat mealies. Ladybugs do as well if you don’t have cats 🫶🏻 I use alcohol as well and get them with a Qtip. The males can fly 🙈 and females can lay eggs in the soil. You can use a systemic to get the eggs in the soil but you can’t use it with beneficial bugs 💚
I’m kinda sad about the process. Actually paying for a cert and still have pests. Seems like a gov money grab vs a real inspection. Congratulations on the import.
I’m obsessed with your mushroom shirt!! Where from 👀 Also silly mealy bugs, they are the easiest to treat though in my opinion. Very jealous of your beautiful imports, especially those Hoyas!!
Thank you! I got it at Target! :) I don't mind mealies too much I think they're pretty easy to rid of but I keep checking to make sure no thrips appear. That was my biggest worry but so far so good!
These are all sooo awesome!! I’m curious about the prices if you don’t mind me asking? I’m always wanting to try importing but if the prices are similar to non imports, I’d rather skip the rehab stage. Also, I’ve had scale on my monstera before and they came right off with alcohol and a qtip! I also spray/wipe the rest of the plant with it to make sure it’s kills any baby specks. Also, just wait until you see a new tortum leaf unfurl!!! It’s wild!!
The prices vary a lot I guess depending on what you end up getting then you have to pay for shipping, etc so you can spend easily spend $300-$400. I've seen some give a discount when ordering a certain number of plants too. It can be worth it if you're looking at getting some less common plants that would cost more here but then you are taking a risk with the plants arriving in not so good condition + rehabbing them.
Beautiful plants. Another UA-camr had a shipment from them that also had mealies. I guess a person just has to be prepared whether importing or buying in the U.S. I would've had a meltdown.
I wasn't expecting pests the first time I had plants imported last summer. But after hearing others had found them I was definitely WAY more cautious lol It's like I knew I was going to find something 🫣
@@plantsbymelissa yea that's not good, but at least it wasn't thrips or anything that can fly! AA is my favorite to import with, I have more success with their plants than anyone else! I'm sure they will be fine ☺️
Very happy with the condition of them for sure! They all seem healthy! Pests I can deal with even though it's annoying. I've been checking everyday for thrips to pop out of the monstera but so far so good lol 🙈
Damn they sent you all those pests AND a plant that had old thrip damage on it knowing it looked bad?? I would be so pissed lol especially if I had paid $$$
Exactly! I know I got the plants for free but if I had actually paid for them I would have been upset. I know the plants won't be perfect and not everyone knows what some pests are too so that's disappointing! They didn't even acknowledge the pests when I emailed them.
How did pass Agricultural Inspection here? There shouldn't be pests on the plants at all. I would notify Aroid Asia and let them know so no one else gets them.
Thank you Melissa for the update on seller. Sorry that happened. Was in the process of ordering some Aglaonemas from them. Think I'll stick to Costa Farms via Home Depot and Wayfair for now New subscriber 🪴
Thank you!! I don't pot them immediately it will probably be 4-6 weeks. I rehab in perlite so they can grow a healthy root system first. But I filmed that part and will do check ins on their progress! :)
Thank you! I am really happy to have them! The pests got taken care of immediately after filming the unboxing LOL. I've been doing daily checks on them and so far so good. I was most worried about thrips but thankfully, nothing has popped up.
I would panic if I saw mealy bugs on a plant. I had never seen a mealy bug in my life until I ordered a haworthia cooperi imported. I didn't know it had them until one day I noticed that its leaves were discolored and dying and I saw the bugs then. Unfortunately it was too late for that plant and they had spread to another of my haworthias.i love my haworthias and I still have to watch that one that survived because once in a while I find some in there between its leaves. I can say I hate mealy bugs and they will not take another of my haworthias.
I'm not sure I know which one you mean 🙈 The second one to last is lighter in color that's a Cebu blue and the last one on that side is a philodendron micans with dark leaves.
Haven’t even watched the vid yet but I ordered in May and plants were stopped at inspection cause bugs and then happened again with the replacement order so I’m just assuming I lost my $200 cause I’m not going to get any plants haha
They weren't in the mail long maybe 5 ish days or so but they reached out to me a month and a half or so prior. They also never refunded me a $25 fee they said they were going to since the exchange was just an unboxing video for the plants. I personally wouldn't order from them myself because I don't trust companies that don't do what they say they are going to do.
can someone help me, I'm struggling with 1 of my plants. I have an elephant Bush (Portulacaria afra) and it loses so many leaves, it drop some of its leaves every day and idk why, the leaves have brown little spots/dots on them that's something I have noticed but I have no clue what that indicates :( she is balding badly
I don't have an elephant bush :( could it be mildew/fungus? If it was mine I would probably spray with a fungicide just in case. Is the soil sitting too wet at all?
Maybe they didn't check the leaves?! I'm not sure but definitely surprised to find them! I have heard of people finding pests on imports before so I was looking for them!
@@plantsbymelissa I received a Anthurium Fredricstali with spider mites a few yrs ago an it’s been a battle to get that plant straightened out. Always check to make sure. 💚
I'm so happy you finally have a Monstera Aurea! (I think that's the one you were wanting???) I love these videos, but I cannot wait for part 2 AND the updates months down the line 🤩🥳🥰 V exciting for my sad life lol. 💚🪴🌿
I shouldn't have done it in my plant room but I wasn't expecting pests! I will definitely know better next time and I'm just thankful there wasn't any thrips!
Oh nooooo, You're the THIRD youtuber ( that I've seen) that's just recently received plants from them with mealies!😬 That seems to suggest it's a more serious issue that they're dealing with right now. That's disappointing 🫤 but they're definitely beautiful plants!
lol for real… the selection is very good but when you get to a pest-free “eye of the storm”, it’s just time to relax and soak it in 😂 (best wishes for all currently living in pest hell 😳)

Yeah, Mealy's don't bother me either. They're the best, so easy to see and get rid of, but I admire your confidence of unboxing in front of that wall of beauties! I couldn't do that.
I will definitely not film in here next time I have an import to unbox lol I was very uneasy after that!
@@plantsbymelissa I totally get that, please keep us posted!
The asmr at the beginning 😩❤️
In video #2 please include the update from batch 1 unboxing. I really wanna see how they're doing too. Thank you so much!!💕
I was going to make a new video on them and update! 🥰
Looking forward to updates 🙂
🥰🥰
retweet that
They sent you some very cool Hoyas and anything variegated is yummy I'm my book!! Funny the pests coming in but had a phyto... Ummm😢
Yes! lol Happy with the selection of plants for sure but definitely could have done without the bugs! 🥲
I was thinking the same exact thing
@@plantsbymelissa well thanks for taking us on the journey with you!
I love watching everytime your vedio maam❤ from philippines❤❤❤
My cactus has been having a reoccurring mealybug problem so I absolutely hate the sight of them.
I just got my first mealies in my house :/ best part...their on a fairy castle cacti lol
I basically just drowned the whole plant in alcohol, washed as much soil off as i could and soaked what wouldn't come off as well.
Looking forward to the follow up video…
That marmorata has beautiful varigation pattern
I’m kinda sad about the process. Actually paying for a cert and still have pests. Seems like a gov money grab vs a real inspection.
Congratulations on the import.
Thank you! I know 🫣 I was kinda bummed about finding them when they're supposed to be inspected.
I’m obsessed with your mushroom shirt!! Where from 👀
Also silly mealy bugs, they are the easiest to treat though in my opinion.
Very jealous of your beautiful imports, especially those Hoyas!!
Oh geez and I keep watching and there’s possible scale/thrips?! 😢
@@plantsbymelissa its good you were prepared.
Fun fact, mealies are actually scale bugs too. Gross, haha! 😅
oh interesting! I did not know that lol. There was a lot of them hidden in the adansonii stems it was so gross 🫣
I did email them (I put a disclaimer in the description already). They didn't say anything about it 😅
❤👏
Thank you Melissa for the update on seller. Sorry that happened. Was in the process of ordering some Aglaonemas from them. Think I'll stick to Costa Farms via Home Depot and Wayfair for now

Very nice!!! Did you make a video of you potting them? Im invested now! 😅
I sent that before I heard you say you have part 2❤ 😂
Thank you!! I don't pot them immediately it will probably be 4-6 weeks. I rehab in perlite so they can grow a healthy root system first. But I filmed that part and will do check ins on their progress! :)
Yay im so excited for you!!! Oh and yes kill those pests asap😮❤🥰
Thank you! I am really happy to have them! The pests got taken care of immediately after filming the unboxing LOL. I've been doing daily checks on them and so far so good. I was most worried about thrips but thankfully, nothing has popped up.
I love that tortum. I have a starter plant.
I'm so sorry that happened to you! You're not expecting pests so definitely not your fault at all.
What is the 2nd to last (from left to right) plant behind you on the moss pole? It has darker green leaves.
Oh no!! 🥹 I'm so sorry! I would be so upset. I hope they can make it right!
Omg!! Ur nail color!!! Is AWESOME!!! Wats the color pleaseeeeeeee
Thank you!! I treated myself and got them done recently lol. It's called "clear your cash" by OPI
@@plantsbymelissa Awww!! u deserve it :) I love your plant room and all the babies in there :)
Thank you!! 🤗
How long did they travel? Or how long was the process?
They weren't in the mail long maybe 5 ish days or so but they reached out to me a month and a half or so prior. They also never refunded me a $25 fee they said they were going to since the exchange was just an unboxing video for the plants. I personally wouldn't order from them myself because I don't trust companies that don't do what they say they are going to do.
ENJ💚YED SEEING Y💚UR AR💚ID ASIA IMP💚RT UNB💚XING...EXCEPT FOR THE MEALY M⚪NSTERS!!!
can someone help me, I'm struggling with 1 of my plants.
@plantsbymelissa thank you for your reply! it's over watered, it's the only plant I own that is not in a pot with drainage holes 😅
Exciting!!! 💚
So excited to have them all ☺️
I thought a phytosanitary certificate meant they check for pests?
They are great plants, good luck with them
Maybe they didn't check the leaves?!
I wonder if while they’re checking they end up getting infected.
Spider mites are my worst enemy or any kind of mite so I feel that! 🥲
on the time stamps it says hoya aria variegated i think you meant monstera adansoniai
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
I'm so happy you finally have a Monstera Aurea! (I think that's the one you were wanting???)
I love these videos, but I cannot wait for part 2 AND the updates months down the line 🤩🥳🥰 V exciting for my sad life lol.
💚🪴🌿
aww, thank you 🥹 my wishlist is a monstera mint! I have an aurea already that I adore. I'll definitely do updates on them!
Mealies? Scales? Thrips?
Nope honey NOPE! I’ll become paranoid if those are mine and unboxing them in near my other plants
Yeah, definitely not a good thing! 😬 I'm happy with the health of them but not fun finding pests!
🪲🪳🕷️🐛🐜🦟🐞Aroid Asia always have surprises 😂😂😂😂 yeah i will pass from all the videos I have seen have bugs 🐞🐛🐜🦟🪲🪳🕷️
lol for real… the selection is very good but when you get to a pest-free “eye of the storm”, it’s just time to relax and soak it in 😂 (best wishes for all currently living in pest hell 😳)
