    “If we just maintain to carry our language, carry our cultural practices, that we still can survive the next 500 years” -Alex Seowtewa
    Our Zuni youth needs to listen to this.

    Gloria is his eldest daughter, my mother. I spent many many many Many hours with him personally. I know his life story by heart. It feels great to hear his voice again and also sad. It's been years since I've heard it. I have tears. I am an artist myself and am so grateful to have been mentored and critiqued by him. Thank you all for your comments and positive words. He was the most influential person in my life. My name is Daniel Aguilar Jr, Gloria Seowtewa is my mother and Daniel Sr is my father from Kewa, Santo Domingo Pueblo.

      I was surprised that this video just popped up. I am happy and sad. I met your grandfather many years ago when I was teaching and attended a week long training for educators at Vail, Colorado. There were about 300 people and 10 or so native teachers there. The sessions were very powerful and brought out many experiences from our colleagues . I found Alex to be so humble and kind.. and obviously very talented. I was honored to have gotten to know him a little. I visited the church at Zuni! How beautiful. I hope the Zuni People appreciate it.

    I met him too. Went to the church with 2 friends. So beautiful. Such a strong vibe. Wanted to sink to the floor under the weight of it, and sit as I was listened to him talk. But I didn't. Katchinas are so connected there. Will never forget.

    Beautiful documentary on a culture now almost lost. I wish our "Modern Culture" could learn the ancient secrets of living in harmony with nature. If we could learn that all the materials in the world will never satiate us. Only living in harmony with nature,can give peace to the soul. The ancient cultures have so much to teach the modern cultures. I am at a crossroads in my life.thinking about becoming a nurse on this reservation but caught in the materialism of our modern culture. Still trying to decide which road to choose.

    Years ago, I met this gifted artist and spent time with him at the church while he was painting. Such a wonderful artist and remarkable human being. I love the kachinas on the walls. He showed me a painting I cannot forget. It was in the balcony. A rain priest as Jesus standing on a disc that seemed to be floating in space. I would love to see it again as it touched me so deeply. Does anyone else know of this painting and where it might be?

    • @tk1950
      @tk1950  6 місяців тому +1

      Sandra. Thank you for your comment. I am not familiar with the painting you describe. It certainly sounds quite fascinating. I will ask his daughter if she might know of it and I will get back to you about that. Sam Lovato Senior of Kewa Pueblo once told me of a Pueblo belief that Jesus came to visit the Pueblos prior to being in the Middle East and that he was a Being of Light and taught people to always allow strangers to come into their homes and to feed them.

      Sandra. His daughter sent me a copy of that painting that you referenced, It is Jesus floating on a cloud above the Pueblo. She has asked me not to make this painting public. If you want to see a copy of it and promise to keep it only for personal and sacred purposes, then i can email it to you. Here is my email: 89vanman@gmail.com

      Debra, thank you for your comment. I agree. However, at this junction, so very many years later, to edit this video and return it to its original location for the Zuni Pueblo School System to use it officially, would require great skills in editing that may or may not bring the placement back to its proper location.
